Yeah old cadet unis and even when groups used shakos in general just makes the drumline look so much more badass. The shakos covering the eyes just adds so much more flare and effect to the book that is being played
As someone who is about 5 - 8 years older than you guys, I can't say thank you enough to your comments about uniforms! I love the activity now still, but there's just something about seeing each corps in their uniform with their Shakos, Helmets, Aussies. Just so badass and makes you ready to see a corps throw down. Wish corps would move back to the direction of uniforms.
There has to be a middle ground where corps can wear uniforms that are more comfortable and flexible but that still honor the original uniforms and the history of the corps. Honestly, throw a shako on these uniforms and you’re halfway there.
THE FULL UNIS CLIP THOUGH!!! Same book, 3 times more intense with the old unis and shakos down to the nose (I was honestly surprised they wore them down proper to be honest) haha wicked!
I've been waiting for this one. I want uniforms back!!! Its so much more badass. That was one of my favorite things when I marched was putting that thing on.
The cadets with the classic uniforms on is so god damn dope. I do miss the traditional stuff. Dope content and always love when you three get together. Awesome chemistry!!
"I'm supposed to wear myself out for the team? WHAT TEAM? No, see what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna look out for myself and I'm gon get mine." "See, that's the worst attitude i've ever heard"
Thanks for highlighting the Cadets line. Great first year with Lee at the helm. Full disclosure: I may be a bit biased (4 years in the Cadet snare line, 3 as center snare / Drum Sergeant, Cadet of the year, snare tech 1981-1984, and Cadet Hall of Fame Class of 2016) but I applaud the achievement of these members and the staff. They are totally bought-in to the Cadet culture. (ps: IMO, they played the feature better in the trad unis in Bristol) and I expect they will continue to push hard (crank) in true Cadet fashion. FHNSAB. Pat
100% correct on the uniforms. Corp identity over the past 5 years has disappeared. Unless you’re knowledgeable about different arranger’s writing style, you literally cannot tell who is on the field without being told. With today’s uniform material, you can keep the classic uniforms while making them more comfortable. Plus they look a lot more professional IMO.
My HS students: Boston Me and half the aged out folks I know: ok...but Cadets For real though this has to be my top line for '23 right now. Not too many frills, just straight good. Love the snare tuning. Reminds me of, most recently, 2018 Boston. High with a tasteful amount of guts. Get 9 blended drummers and those things POP. Ping shots clear as day from the 400 level of Lucas Oil, baby!
This might be the best overall top 10 battery sections I've seen in awhile. Like the top 5 groups are so insane!! Boston, BD, Bloo, Crown, Cadets... They're all playing their asses off 😭🙌🏾
Saw them live yesterday at Tupelo Ms (July 13th) and my God they're PISS clean 😭🙌🏾 best Cadets line I've heard in years honestly. Their book is so beefy 👌🏾
God, now that it’s gone, I can’t help but freaking miss the look of the old uniforms. It looks a million times better. Also the members all look like they are giants in them, it’s just way better.
lol, for the parade day the traditional uniform I think we were fitted all very very early season, so on the 4th of july parades i was out there joking that the uniform fit us 20lbs ago (they fit us better on our memorial day parade when we were all a bit wider
on another note, the show would have been really cool with the westpoints unfortunately i think with the choreography we had it would be very difficult to work around it (i think a modernized westpoint that was a bit more flexible would be awesome though)
i miss seeing uniforms and shakos. it was a super suit. i hope you guys do a video of ryan ellis and the madison scouts - they are playing some tasty music.
yea these beats are pretty serious. and yes, the nursing scrub style uniforms seem to have a direct correlation to their relaxed yet highly efficient approach.
Once you get enough content, it would be cool for you guys to take a look the groups fighting it out for 12th. Academy beat BK in drums the other night, and I imagine all of the other groups in that 12th- 17th range will be having some interesting storylines this season.
I'm only going to say this. Uniforms hit different. A costume will never convey the mystique, identity and presence that a traditional uniform does. Cadets, go ahead, wear your track suits but when it comes finals week wear the uni. It's pure GE.
I’m big on the traditional uniforms, or at least something similar like the Cavaliers are doing this year. Question I have is what is the big difference between East/West coast playing? I hear this referenced a lot but not sure I know the difference.
It's statistically proven, wearing the OG uniforms will add no less than 20% badassery to your book. Call me an old man, but the OG Cadets, Cavies, Crossmen and Coats unies are just 🤌🏻
Lee Beddis is a different type of guy. While he was a student of Aungst, he has his own type of writing that just reminds everyone of the “Cadets Sound”. Along with that, it’s nice to get away from the teeth gritting that gets over-used nowadays Also that 5:4 paradiddles measure was very good for it being early season. 3:43
Not sure if you guys will see this comment or not. I'm what folks call a dinosaur (aged out '93). Moreover, I was not a drummer but I have to say your videos really do a good job helping someone like me understand a bit more about what's happening/ how things are viewed in the judging world/ what techniques or playing styles are relevant and why. Just wanted to say thanks!
Oh, and it looks like the Scouts let another great instructor get away based on who's in the video. Beddis, McNutt, Carter, Hannum, Ancona, Angelis and Sparling. Geez...
I don’t know any other way to get in touch with you guys, so I’m throwing it down here in the comment section. There might be some in appropriateness here, but I didn’t have a choice. Any chance you guys can do a review of this lovely little substitute for this year’s Santa Clara? ua-cam.com/video/r_-JdQw8C3Q/v-deo.html Would love to hear your reactions to this. I haven’t done the research, but I can only imagine that like past lines, certainly some of if not most of the players here are straight from UNT One way, or the other, definitely one of the cleanest lines in some of the most advanced execution of heard in a while. Touch, phrasing, roll, quality, cold attacks, musicianship…. It’s all there and in such a beautiful package that isn’t all flair, but is plenty of the basics down to perfection.
SCV just came out with a snare ensemble performance video. It would be really cool if you guys reacted to it!
Yeah old cadet unis and even when groups used shakos in general just makes the drumline look so much more badass. The shakos covering the eyes just adds so much more flare and effect to the book that is being played
I made the same face Evan and TJ did when the hornline enters at 15:15 😂 Brings me back to marching there in 2006!
Hits you right in the nostalgic feels!

Yea, man something about the shakos. It turns people into a superhero.
I would suggest just wear the cadets uniform in the air conditioned stadiums. Just do it. Crowd would lose their shit.
There has to be a middle ground where corps can wear uniforms that are more comfortable and flexible but that still honor the original uniforms and the history of the corps. Honestly, throw a shako on these uniforms and you’re halfway there.
Uniforms? They are freaking costumes…
$50 says Travis wrote the lick at 9:40
That opening hit with the hot line is so awesome
This feels so much like Crown 2009. Seeing James teching, it makes sense.
the opening progression is so cracked out, probably my favorite of the season. TJ with the tailor remark 😂😂😂😂
THE FULL UNIS CLIP THOUGH!!! Same book, 3 times more intense with the old unis and shakos down to the nose (I was honestly surprised they wore them down proper to be honest) haha wicked!

Lee Beddis! Thank you! Performance reflects leadership Captain!

@@timothychoquette456 that was awesome!!!! Got a good chuckle from that. Thank you👏
Thank you guys! More vids to come!!!
Ok nerd

“…shows don’t make sense anyways…” cheers to that.
Great stuff, as always, guys.

Honestly, I’m normally a huge SCV fan but with them gone this year, Cadets has kinda filled that void for me
This might be the best overall top 10 battery sections I've seen in awhile. Like the top 5 groups are so insane!! Boston, BD, Bloo, Crown, Cadets... They're all playing their asses off 😭🙌🏾
The activity lost something when we no longer had 14" plumes bouncing in the back of a form during the end of a full corps impact.
Saw them live yesterday at Tupelo Ms (July 13th) and my God they're PISS clean 😭🙌🏾 best Cadets line I've heard in years honestly. Their book is so beefy 👌🏾
love TJ Bro 😂 Always keeps it real and honest. Awesome per usual guys 🤝🏼
tjs face when the hornline came in had me rewinding
The dude's got a nice face, I agree.
Having TJ on to speak some gospel with you all was nice!
Keep him comin! 😅

Last clip of the hornline + battery in the West Point unis is awesome. Cadets are throwing down this year 🙌
Mike loves a good jump to the edge
Haha. That I do 👌
Consistent playing positions and parapuhduh 9’s are back baby!
One of the few lines (besides bd) that you can see the lineage of their style.

Nothing beats seeing a corps in their uniform. Same feeling when I look at 2000s Cavies or SCV.
i miss seeing uniforms and shakos. it was a super suit. i hope you guys do a video of ryan ellis and the madison scouts - they are playing some tasty music.
crown 09 tuning for sure
Thank you for y’all’s insight! It is a big plus for the marching community, this content is great for the next generations!
Seen them and Cavies last night in Tupelo. They were both smoking!!!

I’m really glad I’m not alone in the opinion that shakos need to come back
Maybe the Cadets bring out the uni for finals week
I'm only going to say this. Uniforms hit different. A costume will never convey the mystique, identity and presence that a traditional uniform does. Cadets, go ahead, wear your track suits but when it comes finals week wear the uni. It's pure GE.
They would need time to get used to the heavy wool don't you think?
They have 4 snares on each one of the drums !
LETS GO TJ

Absolutely devastated to open this video and see that TJ shaved his mustache. #BringItBack
Too hot for a summer mustache
TJ REACTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Simon Cowell of this podcast!
The cadets are the one corps that need to wear the old school uniform.
It's statistically proven, wearing the OG uniforms will add no less than 20% badassery to your book. Call me an old man, but the OG Cadets, Cavies, Crossmen and Coats unies are just 🤌🏻
so much more attitude and style in the old school uniforms tbh
shoutout kyle gardner
I appreciate how it takes 3.5+ minutes to get to the actual content.
Word.
They really are just cooler with the og uniforms. I wish corps would bring it back
Anybody else hear Street Time in there?
You were correct about the head shots TJ
thank you, Thunderman.
Tj!!!!!!!!!!!!
We need some more TJ content

TJ I ain’t never thought you were a cadets hater 😤
Thank you, sir. It's always love, until something's wack and then it's wack, but never hate
We. Love. Teej.
For the al rhythm
I know this is random and unrelated but is SCV not competing this year?
yes, they are not fielding a show this year
RIP
Like uniforms in the parade !!!
Dig the classic unis! Hate the tshirts and shorts look. Put a damn hat on already. Also, Hyped for Sky Ryders taking to the field once again.
no you’re not old, classic cadets unis are the greatest uniforms of all time
Holy cow
