London Fire Brigade Mitcham Command Unit turning out to a Chemical incident in Lee Green with resources from across the city. Station Tones are included. This is one of 7 new Command Units for the London Fire Brigade, rolled out in mid-late 2023.

So they took an Optare solo bus chassis and converted it for use as a Command Vehicle. They fitted it with computers, lights, cameras, recorders, consoles and a range of other tech to meet the demand. You’ll notice it only has one set of double doors too.

What crew would a command unit tip out with ? Would it be firefighter and OIC

@@lastofthefallensouls1943 From what I’ve seen, the average crewing for a command unit is 3-4 people. It can consist of anything from leading firefighters to station officers.

So these command units can be mobilised to any fires from 4 pumps and above, or if it’s a ‘persons reported’ job. They also go to water rescues and hazmat/chemical incidents. In some cases they are sent immediately as a precaution. Thanks for watching!

woah when did they get these buses, ive never seen these things, only mercedes, volvos and other big trucks as command units

These started going into service late last year around November time, but a couple stations still use the Mercedes CUs as reserves, since these new ones tend to break down or need servicing quite often.

in Tampa, Florida they actually converted school buses to ambulances, can transport quite a few able bodied individuals and up to I believe 4 or 6 wheelchair bound patients, being Canadian I will never get the sound of those trumpets out of my head, hearing those alone gives me the creeps lol@@TSEmergency
