Our Santa is just like the Coca-Cola Santa today but it looked a bit different in the past. More like St. Nikolaus which originated from Turkey.

Dude our loval santa is a badass... hes in a biker club, he has tattoos, he has told me some wild stories feom Vegas and he cusses like a sailor... then he becomes Santa and he is legit the sweetest ever. Hes also a school bus driver. Hes been our local area Santa since i was a kid.
We have two Santa's at the local mall. One is very much the same case. The other is yellow in the face and beard and smells like an ashtray 😅 some Christmas seasons don't sell photos so well, for SOME reason

I love that you and Mary tell the kids Santa gets the little gifts and you get the big ones. It helps teach kids to appreciate them more, because you and Mary went to the effort and work hard to make sure the kids have an amazing Christmas, not some imaginary guy lol. ☺️💕. Xx
Not only that, but when they go to school and tell the other kids what Santa got them, you don’t want the poor kids to feel bad, like they weren’t good enough for the expensive presents. Just a thought. ✌🏻

My parents never put gifts from them under the tree, they were all from ‘Santa’. Now I’m older idk why they would do it like that cause I was always a little confused as a kid

Alway done that with my kids. Santa does the stocking stuffers and small presents. The big ticket items are always from us.

Santa Claus was a fairly recent American invention, for which the inspiration came from certain European mythological characters like the Dutch Sinterklaas, who was not pagan, btw, he was definitely catholic.
I read a short story recently called "Human Intelligence" by Kurt Andersen that gives another explanation for the legend of Santa Claus.

Theres also a greek version and a pagan version, theres a lot of versions that share similarities. The Santa we know today is a modern one but you can assume they’ve been mixed together especially if you go to different countries. Like how some countries have different traditions or versions of Santa, but the idea is similar to other parts of the world. I think its interesting how Christmas is a holiday that is shared across the planet even when its in a different name with different traditions.

The 25th was designated as a holiday for Christ’s birth by the 3rd century, and the pagan holiday Yule was ordered to be celebrated on the 25th by Haakon the good in the 11th or 12th century. Yule before Christmas came around also had no resemblance to Christmas traditions, it was an animal sacrifice where participants swore oaths. Read Snorri Sturlusson, the only contemporary historian we have who wrote about Yule

In Italy we have the Befana whose figure comes from the Roman goddess of the new year Strenia, which is why we celebrate it on January 6th.
For the Romans the goddess would have taken 6 days to clean the old year by flying on her broom around the world.

When we were kids, our grandpa used to dress up as Santa and come to all the cousins houses in the week leading up to Christmas.
But, when I was eight Grandpa had an operation on his throat, that left him unable to talk.
That year Grandma tried to continue the tradition. It didn't work. We all figured it out real quick because, the original Santa was 6'4", and the new one was only 4'8". 🤣🤣🤣

There are pagan santas, evil santas, st. Nick a figure in European folklore. The santas we know was originally a story from an author which i believe gained steam when Coca cola debut the santa clause from the story.

In Finland we have goat too. Santa clause is Joulupukki in Finnish and it literally means a christmas goat (joulu = christmas, pukki = goat). We also have a "scary" christmas movie about evil christmas goat. It's called Rare Exports 😂

Two things: I’m totally with you, Ken when it comes to movies about kids being hurt. Can’t do it. And the second thing is when I was a teacher I did watch my behavior in public just in case I ran into a student. How can I tell them to be good people when I don’t live my life that way? I haven’t changed since I’m not a teacher anymore but as a teacher I was very aware of my public image. Now I just don’t care what people think of me I have blue/black hair, wear shirts with some “interesting” sayings on them and just be me.
