Thank you so much for doing these videos I recently purchased a boat and it has these Volvo penta volex carburetors on them two of them after seeing this video I took them apart because of what you described and found the same thing that you explained I was having a blogging out issue at 3/4 throttle so I took the carburetors apart and found lots of garbage in the accelerator pump blocking some of the passages I'm going to clean and reassemble and see how the boat runs from here I'm sure it'll make a huge difference thanks again for your help
This is a very helpful video and it helped me a lot. However you may want to hold on to that o ring that he said was not needed and or he never used. I could not get my boat to idle at all after rebuild but as soon as I put o ring back it idled great. Just something to think about.
Great rebuild Vid, thanks! However, I was really hoping you would have walked us through the basic setup/starting points on adjusting it after the rebuild to ball park settings so it will run half decent when it's installed. What I'm really looking for is info on how to set the accelerator pump adjustments on my twin carb Volvo AQ130c engine. I can not find that info anywhere. I'm only looking for the basic info on how to ball park the adjustments on the accelerator pumps.
Be very careful when having a portable fuel can above the height of the engine. If the pump diaphragm is ruptured and the needle valve happens to be stuck open, it can siphon the can and fill a cylinder. Then you get a whole new motor once you try to crank it. Happened to me with a AQ 231.
So Mike, very good job!Can you tell me where I can find the Type / Number on the Carburetor? My engine is a Penta Volvo AQ131D from 1988. I gues it´s so far all original. I am not sure that the carburetor is a 44PA 1.May be you know where I can find the information on the Carburetor. It´s still fixed to the engine. Thanks
I have the same carb but have very hard cold starting , I was about out of ideas when I tried 2 inch masking tape wrapped around the intake of the carb ...engine started right up I have a volvo 230 red block Is there a choke kit out there that I can make work?
Hey Mike, I'm back with a question. I just purchased my boat and have dumped a lot of money into it. new gas tank, all new fuel lines, all engine cooling hoses, complete tune-up, new coil, new new new. I'm about out of funds. This engine has 2 Solex carbs, one of the carbs acceleration pumps isn't working, only offers a dribble when depressed. In your experiences with these carbs, what is generally the cause of this problem. I'm thinking/hoping it may just be clogged. Or is it common for the pump diaphragm to go bad?
Thanks, I was afraid that's what you'd tell me! Yes, this boat has been stored in a garage for 28 years without being used! I'm going to scrape some $ together and just buy 2 of your rebuild kits. Thanks for being there...
The main discharge that you talked about at the 18:20 mark, you had said that they don't make those anymore. Mine is bent and has a small crack which is causing fuel to spill onto the top of the carb and not into the throat. Is there a way to just seal that with something like JB weld? It's a cheap boat so I'm looking for a cheap fix
thanks for the info, q.my aq151 carbs say 44pa1-7 yhey are bad i have 2 of from my aq130 carb;s 44pa1-5 i put them on and they seem to work fine could they be wrong jet's? or am i ok
If you disassemble the carburetor and rebuild it, would you need to balance/sync them again once they are assembled? I have never done this before hence the question. Thanks.
Thanks for the quick reply. Say I had a carb balancing device, where would I plug in the hoses? On the carbs itself or somewhere on the intake manifold?

did you notice a difference just from cleaning the carb? Did you replace any parts?
THANK YOU for posting this! It's so hard to find any info on this carb. Just ordered the rebuild kit!

How’s it going? Great video and I hope you are still monitoring comments. Is the fuel filter down in the carburetor on this engine?
No filter on the carburetor itself.

MY same carb as above will be idling fine then accelerate to 2000 rpms out of no where . I shut it off restart is is back to normal any ideas?
Good afternoon I have the same carburetor that's not pumping gas any idea as to what it could be
Hello, my emulsion tube holder comes out fairly easily, is that a problem? Can't find info anywhere
It isn't a problem.
Hey Mike, do you still offer the accelerator pump rebuild kits for these carbs? I will need two kits if you have them in stock.
Where can I get info on how to sync my twin carbs on my 1981 Bayliner? They are twin Solex side drafts on a 4 cylinder 140AVQ Volvo marine engine.
Hi. Is there any replacement for this carburetor?????
None that I know of.
Great Video. Thanks
