just went 400horsies on my '18 TTS when in dynamic. easy 3.4s on good day. 20k miles atm. best money spent ever. full intake, sparks, downpipe and intercooler
How are the after market parts today? I’m looking at a 7.5mk and wondering if it’s really worth going stage 2
@@HartzyGaming absolutely yes.
This is the type of video ive been looking for. Good stuff
Glad to hear it
Uhh yeah ! Absolutely. Been daily driving mine with stage 3 tcu. Full bolt ons and I can get amazing fuel economy. Better than factory as its tuned professionally!
Well I daily mine with FBO stage 2 , got no problem with it since I have it🤷🏽♂️good stuff pete !
great video, explained a lot on reliability, but I wanted to ask.. why did you consider IE over other companies like unitronic, EQT?
Hell, im daily driving my IE Stage 3 Golf R! rides like OEM but with a Big Punch! :)
So long as you keep up with the Maintanece on it, it will keep on driving!
how reliable is it? im planning on trading my stage 2 gti for a bone stock golf r with 30k miles
stage 3'ing mine at 70k miles mate sound engine @@issakorean
What Turbo? I'm stage 2 IE
@@Ave.J. The one that the IE stage 3 software is for, the Garrett GT2260s, or what they call the powermax stage 1. Was IE stage 2 for a few years and once IE came out with their stage 3 with that turbo, I jumped on it with the IE inter cooler and AutoTech HPFP. Bolt on like factory, tune and go!
Kept my 7 for 6 years now. Like you can't think of anything else like it that ticks all the boxes.
I think I competed in a race with you near Campton NH, I was in a c43!😅
did you have to gap spark plugs
Great video, definitely one people have needed.
Curious what brand and material Spark plugs are you using??
I run NGK 91006.. which are basically stock+. Because I change them so much & because i’m not always romping on it. I don’t necessarily think I need a super cold plug. But do NOT get RS7 plugs.
NGK 7437-9 all day
Hey Pete, Love your Videos man. :) Where can i find that Steering wheel of yours?
LeoCarbonFiber on IG. Use code: NEPCFWHEEL at checkout. :)
How did you get the gauges on the centre screen? I have a 7.5R and don't seem to have that feature.
For your IE intake, did you ever install the check valve inside of the IE coolant hose? Any issues with coolant levels?
I have IE intake, never installed a check valve in mine, so far so good, haven’t had any coolant loss at all, the routing is actually much better than stock and the clamps are better imo. Intake sounds insane too
stage 2 2017 golf R 88 miles a day daily driver no problems
Stage 2 is great, never regret a bit. Still a good daily drive and normal when you put it in Eco mode.
Which tuner did u go with?
Ecotune stage 2
my mk5 is stage 2 and its fun to drive, but the drone is really annoying. Did you do anything to make it quieter, and what could you do to make it quieter?
i would wait a bit longer on the oil changes the dealer told me to wait for at least 7k for oil changes
no reason to change coil packs until you start seeing codes
in also don’t understand the premise that a turbo failure on a gasoline engine with “take out the motor” unless you are talking about continuous use after turbo failure. Can you clarify what your saying?
I agree with you, confused me 😂 it doesn't make sense engines don't blow like that
Probably a V8 RWD manual is the only different-enough direction to go if you sell the R.
I've been daily driving an IE stage 2 golf r for the past 2.5 years. And they aren't cheap. I could build an LS for the price of my exhaust system. Constantly burning oil and too many electrical problems. Over 10k in mods for a total of 450hp. An LS could reach 750hp for 5k everything in
Stage 2 gti mk8 clubsport
40mpg
Great video man! But I literally stop what i was doing while listening to the video to contest the "this car is really easy to work on" statement 😂😂
After doing spark plugs on a 340i & basic service on a new WRX. I still believe that modern VW’s are easier to work on, than other “import” modern vehicles. Could just be me tho! (I also have only worked on Subis and BMW)
@@NewEnglandPete im talking specifically about the carbon cleaning and water pump replacement. It was a pain in the ass for me but i was also new to the platform i guess. As a subaru guy the torx bits and triple sqauares is alsp just foreign territory haha
Are you still running the rs7 plugs? I’m getting the ie downpipe installed Monday and going stage 2, the shop I’m using recommended the rs7 plugs but I’m a bit paranoid after reading they’ve grenaded a few engines
Go with NGK 4654 R7437-9 gapped at .026
Definitely never go with RS7 plugs, those toasted my GTI… so did lack of changing overall. But you are safe with the NGK 4654-9 @ .026. I personally run NGK 91006 @ .026 myself.
@@NewEnglandPete i had a chat with a local vw/audi performance shop today and their main tech said they've used the rs7 plugs on countless EA888 cars and have never had an issue, he said he's seen one gti that had the engine blow as a result of a piece of porcelain breaking off and getting pulled into engine, but he said the customer had bought the plugs online and provided them.
still weary after reading the few horror stories though 😄
I recommend keeping the OEM plugs as they will be slightly less efficient due to heat soak but you will have the peace of mind knowing you are virtually safe from this kind of failure.
Why wouldnt you be able to drive a daily driver car with a downpipe and reflash?
why r u driving it so up in rpms? is it necesary or u just like it
I don’t just like it, I love it
How much did it cost you to go stage 2 ?
it depends what mods you have at the moment - are you stage 1 already?
@@jaychesterman8197no stage yet but I heard it’s better to buy all the things and go straight to stage 2
@@thebigbosss1000 it won’t really cost you extra to go stage 1 first if you’re tuning with IE, you might save on labour though if you do stage 2 right away and have all the parts installed at the same time (intake/inlet and downpipe, intercooler if you want)
but as far as the actual tuning, you only pay the difference in price when going from stage 1 to stage 2.
I’ve been stage 1 for a week, and I purchased the stage 2 upgrade and it was $100usd because that’s the price difference between stage 1 and 2
@@jaychesterman8197 oh okay I see , how you like it so far ? What mods do you have on your car
@@thebigbosss1000 right now i've got the IE intake, turbo inlet and stage 1 ecu/tcu tunes.
i've had to intake and turbo inlet on the car for about a year and a half, and just got the stage 1 tune last week, but it's a night and day difference and 100% worth it imo.
the car also makes more sound, and there's an addicting turbo flutter when letting off around 3-4k rpm.
i'm getting the IE downpipe installed on Monday and doing the stage 2 crackle tune and can't wait 😄
I’ll be happy with 420 whp on my mk6 R
Big turbo?
@@NewEnglandPete can I do it with a stock motor?
@@ronnieronnie8549You sure can. No need for a “big turbo”. The word gets tossed around, but you don’t need a big turbo for 500whp, even relatively speaking.
You can do it with a hybrid k04, but you’re better off with a diff turbo like a small efr for example. You can make 400-450whp easily and have even better spool than stock
@@PapiAndrey damm thanks bro, that’ll save me money.
You'd probably have to go hybrid turbo (same housing, different guts) to make that, but don't forget to swap out the _OTHER STUFF_ that supports the power (clutches, cooling, mounts, brakes). OEM setup supports OEM operating conditions, pretty much on 100% duty cycle. Start asking for more power, you get more heat, and pretty soon you're taxing the cooling system. Consider better radiator, intercooler, supplemental oil cooler, and so on. More power = more heat = increase your cooling. One thing to blast off a couple times a week for a few seconds. Another thing to hold the go-pedal down for a few minutes at a time.
Spark plugs 10,000 miles? Oh my 😅
😂
They are consumables. Just like fluids, clutches, tires, brake pads.
Definitely not inexpensive car to own, maybe compared to like a bmw or a hellcat or something but compared to an economy model like an alltrack S or TSI golf it’s absurdly expensive.
10k for spark plugs lol. no man. if u are changing plugs every 10k your tune is shot. spark plugs should last 30,000km minimum.
lol
"Should last"
Trust but verify. This stuff isn't rocket science, you don't need a mass spectrometer or x-ray scanner to figure out if your plugs are still kicking.
Why would you not be able to daily a car with a couple bolt ons and a tune? Silly title
How did you come across this video, good sir?
Bro of course you can, stage 2 doesn’t stop you going to the shops/work 🤣
I don’t get the whole daily driver thing, it’s a car that can still get to a-b unless it’s a drift car or track car that’s different obviously
24k people tuned in to learn if it was possible. You clicked on the video too. Thanks for watching. 😊
@@NewEnglandPete Learn what is possible? To drive a car with a ecu modification? 🤣🤣
You must drive a really exciting car too. Be sure to tune into the RS3 content.
@@NewEnglandPete Bro you seem heated from my comment, all i said was why does a tuned car effect it being a daily driver? Jesus 😂 If that's how you talk to your subscribers and yes, I'm subbed to you... Then you won't get far brother
I appreciate your feedback and I'm sorry if my response came off as heated. Tuning a car can sometimes impact its reliability and comfort for daily driving, which is why I brought it up. I value all my subscribers, including you, and I didn't mean to come across negatively. Thanks for sticking around and supporting the channel.
heck no. stage 2 a daily driver? u insane maniac
i just flashed IE stage 1 a week ago, and i've got the downpipe sitting in the garage and it's going in on Monday followed by stage 2 :D 2020 s3, daily driver.
Spooky, you’re a beast.
Antonthewall, you have a lot to learn.
thanks man! just got back from driving around for a couple hours after the downpipe and stage 2 flash, the car is perfect!@@NewEnglandPete
Stage 2?
Would your grandmother know the car is stage 2 if she wanted to pop down to the shop for groceries? No? Then what's the big deal? It would drive exactly the same under normal use. You simply get a lot more head room when you ask for it.
Guys I ain’t watching this what’s the answer yes or no
Shame
@@NewEnglandPete so is it yes or no
