"that blues vibe" And this is why "cultural appropriation" is such a BS concept, it's cultural appreciation! 50-60 years ago some white kids fell in love with the Blues and here we all are now enjoying the results of that cultural exchange.
It's appropriation because the originators are not credited socially or financially. How Elvis who was a pirate at worst and a cover artist at best can be called the king of rock n roll is cultural appropriation. When white female vloggers are given social/financial credit for "inventing" dreads or cornrows that's appropriation. That's not to say any white talent mimicking an afro-centric style is appropriation. The Allman Brothers specifically have always given credit to B.B King & others who inspired them. Not to mention they made great contributions to the art. THAT is *appreciation* .

Saw and heard The Allman Brothers Band at least a half a dozen times. Always was one of the best bands in concert. Same can be said of The Gregg Allman Tour. His version of the song "Dreams" hits me in ways that I cannot even describe. Their music will live forever!!!
The Allman Bros. Band hit the scene in 1969. Greg (keyboards and vocals) and Duane (slide guitar) Allman, along with friend's, guitarist Dickey Betts, formed the world's best Blues Band. These guys were soulful, Funky, and just plain great artists. First heard them back in 1971 during my tour of Vietnam. Simply the best ever.

My husband went to school with Gregg Allman at Castle heights military academy in Lebanon Tennessee and the headmaster told Greg to put his guitar away and that he'd never make any money playing guitar. But my husband also told me that he was the same headmaster who would hit them on the backs of their heads with his boot if they disagreed with him
Oh boy, you found yourself a good rabbit hole here! Allman Brothers we’re the ones to start the country/blues/rock sound. Sadly, Duane Allman died on his motorcycle at a young age but Greg carried on with band until he recently passed away. Check out Midnight Rider. Too many hits to mention.

Greg Allman is the lead singer. Originally his brother Duane was the guitar player, hence the name Allman Bros. Duane was killed tragically very young in a motorcycle accident. But the band continued on. I've seen them many times in person. Always put on a great show. We lost Gregg a year or 2 ago to cancer. Gregg was once married to Cher

Barry Oakley on Bass, Butch Trucks on Drums, Jai Johanny Johansen on Drums. Sadly, Duane died in a motorcycle accident in Oct. of 71. One year later, Barry died in another motorcycle crash. I believe the 2 crashes happened within a mile of each other. We were definitely robbed of a lot of great music.
There've been many iterations of the band, lots of faces have come, and gone. The core: Greg & Duane Allman, Greg on hammond organ and piano lead vocals, Duane & Dickey Betts sharing lead & Duane playing slide guitar Berry Oakley on bass guitar (also killed in a motorcycle accident) Butch Trucks and"Jaimoe" Johnny Jamieson, on drums (yes 2 drummers) Dickey Betts on second lead guitar, and vocals.

Drums: Butch Trucks & Jaimoe Johanson. Bass : Berry Oakley. Lead/slide: Duane Allman. Lead : Dickey Betts. Many albums and iterations of their music. I knew someone connected and got to see so many live concerts and history w/them. Thank Y ou A-Dog for your enjoyment and reaction !
the allman brothers have been putting a smile on my face for over 40 years.its cool to see someone else experience what i did so long ago. my favorite "southern rock" band.duane & dickey are magical togather on guitars.my favorite is "blue sky." my soul soar's like an eagle hearing that song.
I still can’t believe there are people who haven’t heard this masterpiece. I’m jealous of them, they get to hear Whipping Post for the first time!
It's great to hear on the 15,000th time too.
Love seeing a younger person's reaction to great music that was, and still is, such a big part of my life.
Its a joy to c a young man enjoy what we grew up listening to n luvn!!! God Bless
You and me both...
Dude...you need to watch this live at the Fillmore,...it is one of the top 5 all time live concerts...the whole concert is fire🔥🔥🔥
I think Greg was in his early 20’s when they recorded this song. So much soul in his voice for a young guy. Yes, they were from the south, but they did not consider themselves a southern rock band. They described themselves as a rock, blues jazz fusion jam band.
Check out “ it’s not my cross to bear”
Spotify will classify them as "southern rock". Of course, Spotify is very generous in their genre definitions.
He was 21 when he recorded it. So much soul in that young voice.
He was 22 when they recorded this in 1969. Fun Fact They recorded this album in two weeks.
Yes blue jazz for sure. But really a lot of the 70's " southern rock" groups were jazz oriented. Marshall Tucker, Outlaws 12 to 20 minutes long jams.
@@jessepruit8385 Like there's something wrong with southern rock or being from the South? And if you think Gregg Allman didn't consider himself a Southern musician, why the hell did he name his final album "SOUTHERN BLOOD"?????
I got a feeling you’d love Soulshine- one of the most uplifting beautiful bluesy songs ever! Allman brothers one of the all time great bands
If only we could witnessed Warren Haynes, Dickey Betts, and Duane jamming together.
I don't know to thank you for your service or to pity you for being in name either way I'm glad you came back alive
The Allman Brothers Band were the original "southern rock" band. You'll never go wrong with their music.
Soulshine, Melissa, Midnight Rider. Endless tunes from these guys😍
This is exactly what I felt when I first heard them.. that first album is still my favorite…. From beginning to end…
I grew up with this music. And this is one of my fave bands and songs by them. I wish more young people today discovered older music. The roots of it all.
"Statesboro Blues" and "One Way Out" are fantastic early Allman Bros songs, and "Soulshine" from the late '80s also brings the deep blues.
My husband went to school with Gregg Allman at Castle heights military academy in Lebanon Tennessee and the headmaster told Greg to put his guitar away and that he'd never make any money playing guitar.
But my husband also told me that he was the same headmaster who would hit them on the backs of their heads with his boot if they disagreed with him
@@alesiaking5578 Wonder what happened to that headmaster? Never heard of him but we sure know about Gregg Allman.
Dwyane Almond was a brilliant Gutarist Fillmore east live just brilliant.
Yes Soulshine is awesome. That one is a Warren Haynes tune.
Oh boy, you found yourself a good rabbit hole here! Allman Brothers we’re the ones to start the country/blues/rock sound. Sadly, Duane Allman died on his motorcycle at a young age but Greg carried on with band until he recently passed away. Check out Midnight Rider. Too many hits to mention.
long live SKY DOG
Greg was married to Cher.
And jazz.
Allman brothers live at Fillmore East is the greatest live album ever recorded.
Big facts 💯💯
Hunnit. Copy. Truth
Brother your just scratching the surface. Check out Statesboro Blues, You Don't Love, Done Somebody wrong, One Way Out, Jessica, Soulshine, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed.
Kyle Rodgers i live a very simple life...Iove the music of the 60'S
Led no No
Been an Allman Brother's fan since 1970 and played a gig with them while backing up Chuck Berry. in 1971..Attended many Allman Brother's concerts "live"..Have you heard of Chuck Berry...the Father of Rock and Roll? Glad you liked them. Consider yourself officially inoculated. Now go and listen to all of their albums....You will love them all and be blown away by their music. That's Greg Allman on lead vocals(RIP) and Duane Allman(RIP) on lead guitar. It just don't get any better than this.
The greatest live band ever.....hands down
Whippin’ Post is one of the greatest songs ever written.
One of the first albums I owned as a young teen, Allman Brothers at Fillmore East. Stormy Monday, One Way Out both live from that album are good ones. Check out the concert footage
Finding a young mind finding old school always makes me feel hopeful. Thanks for taking the time DRA.....
Greg was a Georgia boy rooted in The Blues. I heard this song live in the late 70’s at the Pinecrest in CT when I was a 16 year old barefooted girl.
this was actually my first time hearing this as well. Wow! what a wonderful (for lack of a better word) song. Brilliant! Thanks for sharing.
SOUL SHINE is my personal favorite, you'll be in this rabbit hole for a minute. Lots of great hits. 🔥 🔥 🔥 really enjoyed this reaction. 👌
I’m so happy you liked them Adogg. I have seen them in concert 6 or 7 times. They have tons of music and Gregg Allman, the singer had a very successful singing career on his own. You can’t go wrong with any song by these guys.
You REALLY need to check out live film versions. Allman Brothers: 2 lead guitars, 2 drummers, hellacious bass and Greg on organ. AMAZING.
Greg Allman on keys and lead vocals, Duane Allman on lead and slide guitars, Dickie Betts on rhythm, lead guitars and vocals, Berry Oakley on bass and Butch trucks along with Johnny Johanson on drums!!!!!!!
One of the greatest and most underrated band of all time.
If you like this, u might also like Humble Pie “30 days in the hole” or “Black Coffee” if you haven’t already heard them. Steve Marriott was a very soulful singer like Gregg Allman.
Humble Pie never got the recognition they deserved.
or "Natural Born Bugie."
Oh hell yea!! Stevie Marriot 1000% !!!!
I don't need no doctor.
The blues sound is part of Southern Rock. Midnight Rider needs to be next, maybe One Way Out, or Stormy Monday. Too many to mention.
One Way Out!!!😊
I cannot express how much I love watching your reactions. Your excitement is so very natural and pure. Welcome to the awesome that is the Allman Bros. Duane Allman was up there with Stevie Ray Vaughn as far as amazing guitarists. You're in for some seriously good times listening to the Allman Bros.
Im a white guy who was stationed in the Army in 1980 in Ft.Gordon Georgia right after basic training.Me a Puerto Rican guy and a Black guy from my unit took a cab into downtown Augusta. For some reason the three of us ended up at a honkey tonk bar called the Whipping Post.We went inside and it was like out of the Blues Brothers movie.Everyody stopped to look at us and I swear even the jukebox stopped playing. We got chased out of there. We ran across the parking lot to a cab yelling. The Black cab driver took one look and saw us being chased by Good ol Boys and floored his cab out of there. We split up ran different ways.Next morning at formation we had a great story to tell.lol.Every time I hear this song brings back that memory
Gregg Allman was the lead singer of the band Duane Allman was his older brother who started the band but was killed in October of 71 in a motorcycle accident.
If you want a "goosebump moment" I suggest the first song (don't want you no more) and then how it leads into Not My Cross To Bear !! Not my cross is the ultimate for Greg Allman's blues vocals. Good luck Adogg, be prepared and strap yourself in for the best southern rock/blues vocals you've ever heard !!
So glad to see your excitement. The Allman Brothers are a legendary band that just doesn't get enough love on these reaction channels.
Keep up the great work!
Great reaction Adogg, knew you would like it! I’m so happy to see it brought out so many fans too. These guys were gritty and good! All their songs are bangers. Watched it all with you Adogg.
thanks jamie this was an awesome request
There’s nothing like Southern rock ‘n’ roll
The Allman Brothers knows the Blues! I've been enjoying the Allman Brothers since the Nixon cabinet, The Allman Brothers have always been a great band! You like this one you'll love "One Way Out"
Greg Allman is the lead singer.
No doubt Dickie Betts was talented, but he was backup to Duane....Think that one through🤯
I love to watch reactions to this particular song, even though half the time I miss the reaction. Inevitably I close my eyes and am transported to a different place. This is so brilliant.
Honey! There is an entire rabbit hole for you to explore with this classic band! Enjoy 🎶🎹🎸🎷🎺🥁🎤 They're piles of great tunes from them.
Over fifty years ago this was recorded. Greg Allman, the guy singing, was a teenager when this song was done! There aren’t enough superlatives to lay on the ABB. Any and all of their music is this great!
This was my first time watching one of your reaction videos, and it was GREAT watching you enjoy the Allman Bros. Band. Greg Allman on organ and vocals, Duane Allman on lead guitar, Dickie Betts also on lead guitar, Berry Oakley on bass, and Butch Trucks and Jai Johnny Johanson on drums -- yes, two drummers. Amazing band! I used to listen to them in high school, WAY back when. You can go wrong with any Allman's song, but I would suggest Dreams, and It's Not My Cross to Bear, next. Have a great time listening.
My father blessed me at 7 by bringing me with him to see the Allman Brothers. That was May of 71, my life is the BLUES. Stormy Monday is one of my favorites
Live at Fillmore, Eat a Peach…….amazing. Saw them in 1969 and my ticket was $6….Greg, Duane, Berry…RIP.
The ABB are the first southern rock band ever! They're also known for being one of the first jam bands. They probably made at least 20 albums.
nice to see the joy on your face as it unfolded.
if i was confined to listening to only one band, it would be the Allman Bro's Band. if i was only allowed to have 1 album in my life, Eat A Peach. great road trip music.
so nice to see they are being recognized 50+ years later. i was fortunate to hear them in Boston with Duane and Berry. the Youngbloods opened. EPIC evening of R & R.
Welcome to the ABB !! Truly one of America's GREAT bands, one of the world's great bands, AND perhaps the greatest live act ever !!! And a massive catalogue !!!
Bro- I’m in total shock you’ve never done the Allman’s yet-! Live at Filmore East- the best live album in history!
This is so cool to watch-love watching this young young man be exposed to music from a WAY better generation.keep digging buddy there’s so much more for you to discover
Oh yes....!!!
So right. His reaction made me smile so big. Wonderful to see him appreciate some of the best blues ever written. Greg Allman was incredibly talented.
This is considered one of the best rock songs ever written/performed..a true masterpiece
My brother was a drummer in a very good band and they played this song.My friends and I would enjoy live concerts in my basement on weekends. The Allman Brothers was also my very first live concert. His band played in our garage for my 16th birthday. So glad my mom was the one who allowed practices.
The keyboard player, Gregg Allman, is also the lead singer. They have a lot of music and it is all great. Just as good live as in the studio.
Their live performance of "One Way Out" at Fillmore East is 🔥 also! 💖
Live at the Fillmore is in the top 5 of the most iconic most historic and just most freaking awesome albums ever made
Gregg Allman singing n playing that Hammond B3,. Next should be One Way Out.This is southern rock at its finest.RIP Gregg Allman
Yes. It's April 2024 and RIP to our Brother Dickey Betts. A lifetime of music. The road goes on forever. 💕💕💕💕🎸🎸🎸🎸
I saw them in concert in 1982 incredible. If you don't love them, you aren't alive. They also were great people.
Glad you discover The Allman Brothers Band, great Band classic beautiful music.
"Soulshine" is an absolute masterpiece by the Allman Brothers Band
Yes, the singing comes from his soul, and so does the guitar playing.
I really appreciate channels like Your Adogg. I'm 57 and grew up listening to these songs in Jr. and Sr. High. Radio stations were still playing these songs occasionally in the late '70's and early '80's. I have not heard some of these songs in a long, long while. Reaction channels take me back to when I was young and this music was awesome to hear for the first time. I'm glad that you enjoyed this song, the Allman Bros. band hit the nail on the head with their music.
Gregg Allman is the singer....this band is one of the best southern rock/blues ever...ever....I listened to them for years....their songs last 10 14 minues....it is a trip...awesome..Eat a Peach is one of their albums. Macon georgia
You should check out Loan me a Dime from Duane Allman’s greatest hits album. He’s playing his amazing slide guitar and Boz Scaggs is singing.
btw - Gregg Allman was considered one of if not the goat of white blues vocalists.
There’s also a great video of Gregg playing Come and Go Blues on solo acoustic guitar in between takes in the studio. Find it man - you won’t be disappointed!
Brah, you listening to the dudes who started the "southern rock" sound! These dudes could throw it down. Greg Allman just may be one of the best guitar players EVER! Great pick, great reaction. I had the privilege of having the same home town as the Allman Bros. I have had family sing and play with them in the early days. Just another great product of the muscle shoals sound!
@@CanYouDig I know who Duane is "my man" He played the slide while Greg was voice, keyboard, piano, AND GUITAR! Duane had to change his style after he F'ed up his hand. I myself personally think Greg was a great guitar player... My man!
@@CanYouDig "one of the best guitar players EVER" might be a bit hyperbolic, but Gregg played guitar. Most famously on "Mellissa". Here he is doing "Come and Go Blues"
ua-cam.com/video/lIwnbYwmFOI/v-deo.html
You from Nashville? I'm from Lebanon and I have friends that went to military school with them at Castle Heights.
Dickie Betts and Duane Allman were the guitar players in this line-up of the ABB. Greg was the organist and singer. I heard them at a rock festival in '71 3 months before Duane's death. Jammin!!
@@tay-my-debil2182 Gregg didn't start playing guitar on the albums until after Duane was gone.
Even as a young man Gregg had one of the best blues voices ever🙏
OMG I LOVE THE ALLMAN BROTHERS and I truly enjoy your excitement it just made my day🥰 what an amazing thing with reactions i get a birds eye view into answers of questions I’ve always had about the younger generation and IF/DO they ever experienced REAL musicians REAL songs from the 60’s onward…if not they are truly missing out on an experience💃😍
Saw them at an outdoor concert in Waterloo NJ..3xs!! Each time lasted like 3-4 hours!! Never never ever got tired of it.
Awesome reaction! You should check out “One Way Out “ by them. It’s a thumper! Greg was lead vocals and keyboards. His brother Dwayne was one lead guitar and Dickey Betts was the other. The names of the rest of the band I don’t know, but they had 2 drummers. I just know they were awesome!
JaiMo was one drummer, Butchie Trucks was the other. Barry Oakly on bass, Dickie Betts, Duanne Allman(aka the GOAT) and Greg Allman.
@@jimcox8148 Absolutely correct.
I just love it when you youngins hear real music...makes my day and puts a big smile on my face. Old dude from NC.
Yeh...this is good music. Something that seldom exists today. Like I said before the 50s-70s put out the best catalogue of music, song and talent in the history of the world. Something that will never be done again.
Best band ever! Gregg Allman is the lead singer. He passed a couple years ago. The end of an era for sure. Thankful I got to see them back in the day...four hours of concert bliss. Listen to Statesboro Blues if you get a chance.
Bro, I can't tell you how much it warms my heart knowing young people are being turned onto the Allman Brothers Band. These were some of the most talented musicians in the last century and they blended rock, country and blues. What you're listening to is pure magic.
