I can't stop rewatching this scene. Anthony Carrigan keeps proving, episode after episode, how incredible of an actor he is. You can see the hurt, the betrayal, bitterness, resolve, and so many more nuances in Hank's expression. You can really feel everything Hank is feeling in that moment, the moment that Barry loses his cool and it confirms to Hank that Barry is completely selfish and had never been his friend. He's the comic relief character, and yet still manages to pull on the heart strings every time!

... and when Hank's partner Cristobal took a stand, he died for it.
      This show's kind of great.
Barry and Hank were both terrible people, but I really wonder if their friendship was the best thing about them - though they both devalued it. Barry didn't delude himself, but Hank's sentiments had something to them.
Barry was angry. Hank was depressed. I wonder if that's why they kept circling each other right up until the end. Hank does die trying to protect Barry's son from what he thought was a threat - it takes him a while, but at the last minute Hank does sort of realize the error of trading human lives when he should be defending them. Oddly this gets a lot of people killed, but the kid makes it.
Maybe in a weird way Hank learned from Barry, and Barry learned from Hank - Barry ended sad but calm, Hank ended angry but righteous.
If only they'd actually valued their friendship instead of each other's utility, and recognized that there was an odd connection between them, they both might've turned away from their own unique darkness.
It's funny how everyone died over protecting the one good thing about Barry, which was his son.
It's messed up but life just has that kind of dance to it.

I’m writing this after seeing S4e5, but I’m really rooting for NoHoHank. He showed a darker side recently and I’m rooting for a proper close to this show. What is strange is that most shows, in their final season, make the audience dislike the character that dies. In BB we saw that with the murder of Hank. Similarly, in BCS we saw that with McGill robbing an old lady. What’s interesting here is both characters turned dark, and ‘unlikeable’ in the sense that their deaths would be justified to an audience. I’m stoked for the final 3 episodes. One of the most important lines in the entire show is in the first episode when Barry enters the diner and asks Melissa Villaseñor’s character what she has in her hand. When she says she’s an actor”. He responds, “so am I”.

We were definitely rooting for Hank in this episode, but I think we're also seeing him embrace his ruthlessness, which was first apparent in Season 1. I mean, Hank basically had Barry kill Goran when Goran insulted Hank. His response of "I'm polite" to Goran's insults was one of the most unsettling moments in the show. For the first time in the show, he drops his cheerful persona, and we see quick flashes of vulnerability (like a sad puppy) followed by anger. In a really twisted way, Hank is like Ted Lasso if Ted were a criminal. He is to a degree aware of the cruelty of the world around him and chooses to respond in an overly positive manner as a coping mechanism. However, as soon as someone calls him out on that, it drives him nuts.

He never once listened to Barry about what he wanted or really cared about him.
