Love your videos. Well done on the reverse lining crag. I like how we get to see a lot of the scenery with you. I agree about yhas. Use them often and it's a shame what's happening.
I figure folk would rather see the trail than my face! 😆The way down the crag was pretty treacherous. Glad you're enjoying the videos and thanks for watching!
What an excellent day's walking - and fabulous scenery. I became a YHA life member over 30 years ago but find I have used them less and less during the last 10 years now there are less hostels available and they have became more popular so more difficult to book. So so different from before. I could go on but I wont 🤣
I got my life membership 20 years or so ago. So many great hostels gone now. I stayed at Acomb near Hadrians Wall not long before it closed in 2005/6 ish. Brilliant little hostel and such an enjoyable place to stay. I remember a fellow there who used to cycle round the hostels in the north east, a former miner from North Shiels. He didn't look a day over 60, but was over 80! I wouldn't be surprised if he was still going!
I love using hostels when I can, but it's becoming more and more difficult. I can think of at least 10 hostels I've used over the last 20 years that have gone - a few are now independents to be fair - I fear that it's an organisation that no longer knows what it wants to be. Patterdale hostel being sold is borderline insanity for me! It's not that long ago school groups were staying in hostels with the public. While I know why this is no longer the case, I really think the kids miss out on a massive part of the hostelling experience, which is to listen to the stories of the old sweats and their experiences of the outdoors.
@@AndiS-qw6od It's always great to see kids in hostels. They bring a vibrancy to the place. It's sad that so often they don't get to stay with other hostellers. The passing on of stories, experiences and passion for the outdoors is as much a part of the hostelling experience as the activities. That said, there was a large school group at Borrowdale when I passed through. They were having a brilliant time. I had a quick chat with one of the kids and some of them were going canyoning that day!

Wow! You had some dramatic views on this section. Great video!
Grasmere common was just stunning. My respects to those folk who walk from Borrowdale to Patterdale in one day. That is a really tough ask!
Had similar issues trying to book accommodation with YHA for next June. At the moment looking at wild camping a few nights instead.

We were at Grinton a few times recently and twice there were school groups which was lovely to see.
