Thank you so much. I got this printer years ago and only used it twice. I put it away for over 2-3 years and just started using it again. I was discouraged when this error message popped up. I've followed these instructions twice and it hasn't worked but it's good to see the video and others experiencing this same nonsensical issue and getting it resolved even.

Fixed it for me, thank you. Did take a couple of tries but eventually the printer carriage released from the right where it was Jammed and NO PAPER in there before at all.
Thank you! There are a few over complicated videos claiming to fix this error but your factory reset recommendation took 5 minutes and completely fixed the issue. yourethemannowdawg
Any other suggestions? Exact same problem word for word. No luck on the factory reset. Have HP officejet pro 6978. Don't want to buy another printer. Tried unplugging numerous times.
THANK YOU SO MUCH, it worked! after a lot of hassle and trying out all suggestions by HP, I got in contact by phone with their technical support, but they advised me to buy a new printer/scanner - fortunately I did a last search on UA-cam and followed these instructions.
It did not work the first time but then I opened up the printer and pulled on that grey paper jam handle, then manually started moving every wheel and gear back there and flipped up and down this beige colored plastic piece then put it all back together, performed the second reset and it worked!!
Please advise. HP recommends buy a new printer but it was HP ink that leaked and caused a perfectly good printer to stop working!. My HP OfficeJet 6968 turning onfor a minute and then shuts off. Worst time of year. I rely on the Holiday Season to try and earn a little extra $ to thank my sons helping/sacrificing all year. Disappointed as a loyal HP Customer many years. Enrolled with HP Instant Ink monthly for 6 years.Noticed the ink quality becoming poorer over time. HP states ink is new but I suspect old and refurbished. Just installed all 4 HP new cartridges--XL Black, reg blue, yellow, red 2 weeks ago. Printed fine. Visited family. Returned home to find ink leaked throughout printer interior. Nothing was wrong with the printer. HP advice was buy new. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated. Thank you! Patricia Greenville SC
@@june7914 sounds like you need to buy a new printer, i suggest buying the best deal. All the printers at this price point seem to have reliability issues.
@@PerfectBiscuits thanks for speedy response. Purchased 9012e HP All In One for $209 locally. HP tried to rope me into "Leasing". No thanks. Printer is gnormous, fugly and sounds like a barking dog when printing. compared to the 6978 which was much better imhop. I can see into where the ink cartridges are installed and keep on the lookout for defective ink leaks.I'll still tinker with the 6978. Thanks again.
Didn’t work for my 6958. I’ve tried cleaning it and everything. If I could just get the ink thing to slide over I’d take that out too to try and clean. This is driving me nuts! I don’t wanna buy another printer when this works fine! Expect for this dang error message. It’s haunted me for over 3 years!
HP printer 6962 had this same error code and thanks this didnt work. Terrible printers these OfficeJets are trash. Replaced ink cartridges and it worked for several months than this error code came up and now cartridges holder will not move. Did all resets shown, called HP tech and they will not help without getting paid. HP Trash

Reset didn't work. They pulled an apple "slowdown" on me. I was printing just fine until this "failure"

My problem with an Officejet Pro 6978 sounded exactly like yours however the factory reset did not fix my problem. Thanks for the tip though.
