I think you might be overthinking the Handyman name thing. There's nothing wrong with having "Handyman" in your business name. You just need to make it as clear as possible on your website, and on your ads what kind of services you are capable of offering so the customer sees it. Then once you have your foot in the door with that customer, as you're going to leave give them a business card and just say "Hey I just want to let you know I offer a ton of different services, It doesn't matter if it's plumbing, electrical, carpentry, blah, blah I can get it done for a good price". It's a good way to lock in customers for repeat business
I agree but unfortunately I've see first hand proof the name is hindering my business. I have a professional website detailing all the work I do along with project pictures, etc. Most people with tons of money don't even waste their time looking up who they hire. They simply go by the name...
Handyman equals cheap. General contractor means expensive. Its the difference between the oil lube tech at valvoline and a master mechanic for mercedes.
Maybe call it something skilled services. My business is Crabtown Home Services because I saw this same thing happening when I started the company last year.
The word handyman can also be a Benefit, when you change your name, your call volume will significantly drop. What you need to do is flip the customers you have already that trust you to upsell them to larger jobs. Make sure you are capturing emails through a crm system and then hit them with email marketing every week educating them on the large jobs you do. We turn 250 dollar jobs into 50k jobs all the time. Turn your lemons into lemonade.
Definitely drop the handyman, A-Z repairman sounds better I’m a retiree when I got to Home Depot I snap photos of repairman vehicle’s so I have contacts when needed. Good luck, you sound honest 👍👍
Awesome video bro! Lol yea I and I r opposite. I love my small jobs. But I guess cus I know my end game is owning a bunch of rentals. U should definitely look into them.
@@utubehandyman yep I have 1 duplex so far ( 2 units) I think we are definitely going to go through some bad stuff. But there is going to be a great opportunity in the near future. But yea that's definitely scary stuff since they keep putting those restrictions in.
I can feel your pain. Call yourself a home repair and home improvement expert. As for me, I don't advertise and have been growing my business by relying on word of mouth referrals from the quality of the work I do. My long established list of long term clients don't ask me anymore what I am, but ask me: Can you do this or that? Then I say yes or no.
I just changed my business name and added “contracting” in the name instead. Sounds more professional and that you’re capable of taking on bigger jobs. Let’s see a POV of a roof leak repair too. You mentioned it multiple times.
I think it depends on your intended scope of work. You can make good money doing small repairs for people. I get leads all the time for small repairs but am trying to niche into only doing remodels. If I had handyman in my name people would be unlikely to hire me for that.
The problem is that alot of the illegal immigrants that sit infront of Home Depot waiting for work also call themselves handyman and they dont have any licenses or certifications so people assume that handymen are low skilled labor. People usually look for certified general contractors for stuff that they want peace of mind with that the work will be done without problems.
It's not the fault of the customer or the name Handyman, it's your lack of informing what you do to the customer on the first visit with a nice brochure.
Yeah FL is wild on that, I’ve heard they set up stings on guys giving bids for work outside their license scope of work. Like very minor stuff even, I swear they would fine a framer for insulating a wall cavity that’s getting buried during the framing phase. I get it with the hurricane jabbers but DAMN.

@@ScreamingEagleFTW I see. That would also be illegal in my state AK but probably not as harsh. We have our own handyman license but still can’t do plumbing and electrical fixtures. Sounds like you’re complaining because you failed to set the expectation for your customers. Maybe have a flyer or something when someone hires you for ceiling fans stating all the other work you can you do.
I bet you’re not licensed to do all those trades. I bet you don’t pay insurance rates on being a roofer, plumber, electrician. This comment is not saying you’re not able to compete task, but don’t talk overhead costs when you don’t carry the license, certification, or insurance to do that trade. To many of my customers handyman means cheap labor

you're right!. That's the only thing that's kept me from rebranding lol. I already rank top 5 in my area with my existing name.

It’s unfortunate but I agree with you. The idea of what a handyman is is changing, but I didn’t have time to wait Lol. Great video
I did a trim job recently because of you lol. Video coming up
If you don’t tell them, how would they know..all handymen have different skill sets.👍🏼
once they meet me, they never go back
Thank you, great information good to know.
"Home Repair and Home Renovation Specialist"
gotta BS your title for that raise, its ap art of corporate america lol
Yup exactly. My motto is if you can't dazzle them with your brilliance gotta baffle them with your bullshit 😂
Perhaps "Home Construction Services" might work better. The word construction is used frequently as a key word search.
Or home repair services. When I hear construction, I think of general contractors and large-scale projects.
(Name of choice) Property Maintenance, then list your main handyman things you fix and maybe a specialty. That’s what I’m doing.
Northern Peaks Maintenance, LLC here .
Having "handyman" or a name such as "Joes Repairs" associated does make it a bit harder 👍
Like you videos but would like to see more repair videos. Thanks
coming up
Maybe go with. "Handsy Man" ?
lol
Great video.
And that why I change my name title specifically on my UA-cam channel 😂
I guess you just have learn that!
Well my UA-cam channel don’t reflect my profession, but I can bring more views since I can’t pin point all my abilities 😬

thats a good idea bud. But, the way the gov deals with tenant laws, it seems they will make it impossible to evict people in the future.

What sort of jobs do you find yourself doing most of?
I've been doing a lot of cabinet installs lately along with sink replacements. Lots of people asking me if I can redo their bathrooms.

what state are you in?
Great vids
My name is ______ Home Maintenance for this reason. I have been doing property maintenance for 30+ years now. I am no handyman.
...and you had already addressed the name issue. Please ignore my prior comment.
i ended up keeping it, too much work to change it now lol.

you cant do any of that here in Florida you need a contractors license to do that or you go to jail.

why are you so negative?.
NeXt insurance will write policies for general contractors. And yes homeowners insurance will provide backup coverage
