Power fold and extend tow mirrors. I believe this is optional on XLT models and standard on Lariat and up models. I have that feature on my 12' Super Duty and it's a must have for me. I love being able to extend my mirrors out for towing with the push of a button.

Thanks for the info! We have the power fold and extend mirrors on our XLT. They're certainly nice. We had the manual extend and fold mirrors on our previous Lariat (2005) Super Duty. I do worry that the power version could be a future failure point. But I'm hopeful that's not the case.

For me 63 the tailgate step was a must have. I just found a F350 7.3 with 6'8" box Tremor, with GVWR of 11300 lbs.
For me too the 7.3 was a must have. A nice to have that I really appreciate finaly is the Powerscope mirror. I do have the center console. Coming from a F150 with the 6 places That nice to have console is now a must have for all the storage.

Right on - I agree 100%. I wouldn't have another truck without that tailgate step. And if I ever get another truck, I won't do without that center console.

What did the Tremor package do to your payload rating vs not having that package? Reason I ask is I am in the market for a 7.3 gasser with the 4.30 rear end but I don’t really need the Tremor package. Thanks.

@@scottg9208I don't think it is adding payload on any sort. I got that truck because it was the only one F350 with the 7.3 available in my area. It is a 2021

If I were truck shopping, I'd definitely consider a Ford as my first choice. I've been a Ford fan since I was a kid. Prices today though really are eye popping to be quite honest. Even an F150 is $40,000 to start, a used F350 where I am is about $65,000. I've even seen some as high as $115,000 and for a truck that's amazingly high for my budget. And even if I had the money, I'm not real sure I'd ever want to spend that much for a truck. Perhaps when I win the Power Ball, I can more seriously think about it...LOL. Again, that's a beautiful truck and it definitely pays to be smart consumer. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

I totally hear you. I really enjoyed not having a truck payment (or any vehicle payment) for a long time. But we use our truck a lot, so it was time for the upgrade. I'm glad I searched far and wide and found one that had MOST of what we were looking for, used, at a decent price. I can't imagine paying some of those crazy numbers on a vehicle. The other advantage is that since used values are so high, our 2005 F350 crew cab lariat diesel with 130K miles on it actually had a much higher trade in value that it would have a few years ago - so that helped some. Hopefully I'll still have this truck a long time from now and we'll feel it was a good value once we divide the price over 15-20 years. :)

For my application I am using the truck as a farm truck. I optioned for the diesel. So I didn't need most of the "tech" stuff on the truck. The things I optioned on my truck was the functional hardware. I optioned the long bed, bed liner, bed lighting, puck system, larger fuel capacity, air ride suspension, wheel liners. Other than that the base model truck had most of the stuff I wanted. Getting in and out of the truck in some pretty bad conditions and with the dog getting in and out and the hair problems I decided to forego the carpet, and the cloth/leather seats and just stuck with vinyl flooring and seats, and then put some rugged cordura seat covers over it. So far that is working out amazingly well and I like it better than I thought I would. I wanted to get the leather seats, but they require you to get carpet and other things I didn't want so I opted for the vinyl. The vinyl looks nice, looks like leather, but as soon as you touch it you know it isn't. So the seat covers make the seats breathable and protected. It is a breeze to clean up and I think it is going to wear a lot better than the upgraded interior. The downside is that I lost some of the internal storage compartments by optioning the lower end trim. So far not a big deal, but something that would have been nice to have. Agree on the upfitter switches. I did option for them, but I am scratching my head what I will be using them for. I might put a low profile light bar on the front to help with work situations in poor conditions out in a pasture or something if I ran out of daylight. Possibly find a way to setup a work light for behind the truck. But that doesn't happen on a regular basis and frankly I am usually on the ATV for situations like that so I don't know how essential those upfitter switches are. Frankly the base model trucks have the stuff that used to be optional included now. Since I won't be doing much in the way of regular road trips and dealing with a lot of traffic etc I didn't see the value in adding most of the other bells and whistles. So far the only tech that I wish it did have is a front mounted camera so I can see how close I am getting to stuff when parking the truck, but to get that front camera they required a package that included all the other stuff that I didn't want. So I passed on the front camera because of that. I wish that was a stand alone line item that could be added. I really didn't want the sensors. I have them on my car and they frankly are more annoying to me than they are worth. A good camera on the front and back would be just fine without all the other stuff. I think those side puddle lights are something that I just didn't think through and might have been worth the upgrade. I didn't look to see if they also required other packages to get those, but those do look handy. I only drive the truck when I need the truck for hauling loads, pulling trailers and equipment. Loading it up with a couple thousand lbs in the bed she doesn't even blink. My half ton was squatting and not happy at about 1200-1300lbs. So the upgrade is nice. Thanks for sharing you thoughts on your must haves. It is interesting to see what others are doing and how the truck fits their specific needs with the options they choose or wish they had.

Simply as another opinion and not meant to be argumentative.... Good vid & you brought out many good points. I purposely ordered my 21' F350 XLT, 7.4L & 3.73 gears as an Extra Cab with 6.5' bed. I tow a trailer as well and have no difficulties getting into tighter spots with the shorter length & wheel base. Slider was not necessary as I do not 'jackknife" when backing with the shorter wheelbase. I can still use it as a 'car' & park it in any standard spot. It also fits in the garage (a must). Also easier to get in & out of a gas station.Other configurations would not accommodate those items. This is my 4th one with this set up and I have never regretted it. I can count on one hand the number of times I have had anyone in the back seat the last 20 yrs. When I have, there is still plenty of room, just a bit of an inconvenience getting in & out. 48 gal tank would be nice, but the 36 gives me a chance to get out and stretch. I carry a 5g gas can for the generator and it doubles as an emergency for the truck. I agree about your conclusions on the camera's. The center console is a must for me. Had one w/o it and did not like it! Had leather in my 04'; the last 2 have not. Cooler in the Summer, warmer in the winter. I just plug in my phone for the navigation. Ford's is too expensive and would default to my phone anyway. I debated over the Camper Pkg; but was afraid it may ride too rough (?). Appears you have the Chrome Pkg or the XLT Premium Pkg? I ordered mine with the XLT Value Pkg. (less chrome.)The trailer light hookup inside the bed was part of the camper pkg in 21'; not a standard item. The few F350's on the lots at the time were all loaded up and in the $75k - $95k range. I bought mine for way, way less & discount off the sticker. People called me crazy & said to wait. IMHO it was only going to get worse. Dealers are still calling me to sell it to them at what I paid for it. A new one is ~$12-$15k more now. Afraid to look at a 23' !

      @PurpleCollarLife  Рік тому +2

Thanks, Herb! Another great comment. With our Great Dane (who loves taking rides in the truck) and our teen daughter and friends, we utilize the crew cab quite a bit. I'm afraid the extra cab would be less convenient for us at this stage in our family. But in a couple years - we probably could do with the shorter truck. Our previous truck was the 6 3/4 bed with the crew cab. I certainly is a noticeable difference when finding a parking spot, parking in the garage, or navigating around a gas station etc.
We do have the Chrome package. It wasn't something we were looking for or even wanted - but this track had it. I do like the wheels though that came with the chrome package.

@Herb With you all the way, absolutely love super cabs look and function. But after only having a choice of 4 doors when I needed a truck there is no way on earth I would ever go back to a supercab if it meant giving up my 48 gallon fuel tank. I know for about 4 grand you can get a 50 gallon installed, but that would be all out of pocket after buying the truck.

    • @herb7877
      @herb7877 Рік тому +1

@@OmahaWayne I guess that’s why they offer them both. I personally value the other attributes I listed above much higher than the extra gas capacity. 36 gal will take me over 300 miles when towing and we need a break after 5 hours. I just looked into a an extra tank that fits inside the box up against the cab. I believe it comes in different sizes but a nice thin one was 25gal. It was under$1k. I decided not to buy it though at this time. Only one time have I used my 5g can and that was to get over the California border into Arizona to save $1 a gal… but like I said we have options and I know I’m in the minority.

I swear we are twins, well except I am MUCH older.
Went from a 2003 7.3 to a 2021 7.3 that I just got. We have almost IDENTICAL must haves, want to have and narrowed down our choice the same way to pull my 12000 pound camper.

I did get remote start but you can add that in about 15 minutes to that truck with ford parts. Just a box that hooks into the back of the obdii port. You use the same remote and just hit lock/unlock/lock to start. Just contact fairway ford parts (in ohio) tell them you want to add remote start and they will give you a list of whats needed.

The New Ford has almost the same output HP & Torque as the 2000 year-model Power Stroke diesels of the time.
If you need heavy towing capacity without the monster torque of a diesel definitely go with the Ford, it's a much more Eco-Friendly option, not to mention the price of fuel vs regular gas.
A 5 year total cost of ownership between Diesel and Gas (Either Brand), is about 15K lower for both of the gas engines, that includes the initial engine markup price with added taxes, the cost of fuel for 5 years, maintenance, and the cost of insurance.
It costs much more to insure a Diesel than a gas engine.
We know because we own both.
The 4:30 Rear on the gas Ford will make-up for about 50% of the lost torque compared to a Diesel with a 3:73 Rear. So now you are getting close to 675-700 torque equivalent on the gas engine. That's a very respectable towing capability for up to 13k lbs of towing.
Combined with the weight of the truck, now you are getting closer to the magic total GVRW of 20K.
Again these are impressive output numbers for s gasoline engine.
I have friends in the landscaping and construction business that tow with the 3500 6.4 Ram, 8 speed & 4:30 Rear, and they have no complaints.
If you pull a 12k lbs RV, a Ram 2500 with a 4:10 Rear will do the trick with the added benefit of a silky smooth ride due to the rear axle coil suspension.
The 2500 RAM with rear coil springs rides like a Cadillac when is empty. And if you want more load capacity for the rear coils, just add a pair of Firestone air-bag springs to the rear axle of the ram.
Cheers & happy towing to all fellow truck enthusiasts.

We never could have bought one with the Platinum package because of the price. In my research, I found that buying an STX or XLT package and then adding the options we needed was a much more cost effective method. The base price of the Platinum (and even the Lariat) is significantly higher than the base price of the XLT. I think people are discovering that it's better to get a lower trim level and add options than to buy the more expensive trim. PLUS - we didn't want that huge sun roof. We're not a fan of those. It's very easy to add factory remote start to most of these ford trucks. There are many UA-cam videos showing how to do it. If you really want it, it costs about 150 bucks and it's simple to do. You basically just install the factory parts, get the correct key fob, and activate with FORScan.

But I think there was probably something we should have been doing with it over the 17 years we owned the truck. Probably some type of track cleaning or something.
I do miss having that rear window for the ventilation front to back like you mention, and also for the ability to have additional visibility/communication when backing up to a trailer. Though - with the new camera it's so much easier!

I ordered a 22 F350 short bed crew cab with the console. It wasn't looking good for it to be built before tow season so I found and bought a brand new 22 F350 long box with the front bench seat. My short box ended up being built in time so we traded the long bed for the short bed. I miss the 48 gallon tank but having the console, up fitter switches and the bed lights that the long box truck didn't have made it worth me having to stop for fuel a little more often. If the long bed truck would have had the console, I would have kept the that truck. The long box truck also had the factory spray in bed liner. The short box did not. I like my Linex liner way better than the factory ford spray in.

Its funny seeing what is in a new truck even an XL compared to what was in my luxury 1999 Lariat F250. Some stuff in the new trucks is nice, but there's a lot of crap in them that I wish they'd just make an option rather than standard...the touch screen stuff is one thing I'd rather they leave out. People don't realize how much that will cost to replace when it fails, and yes it will fail. the Odometer display in my car quit working, the only way I can see what the mileage is on the car is with the Forscan software on my laptop plugging into the OBD2 port, it would cost several hundred dollars to have that cluster replaced, on top of the hours of labor involved in tearing the dash apart, not worth it in an almost 20 year old car.
I will probably swap out the factory stereo in my F250 because it keeps trying to switch to CD mode randomly.

Ford CPO vehicles can be warranted for 11 years and 140,000 miles. Go on line to Anderson Koch Ford and warranty the bejesus on that thing. My 2017 Flex limited is warranted to 2028.
Never buy any car or truck until you have downloaded the brochure and the ordering guide from the web. Why? Because the dealers don’t have a clue what they are selling. Their online summaries are pathetically generic and their sales people barely know a truck from a car. The ordering guide will give you what you need about options and packages.
Get a window sticker. Ford dealers can reprint any sticker from a Ford vehicle. Customers can get stickers from third parties on line. The sticker will tell you MSRP which is important these days
