  • OREI eARC 4K 60Hz Audio Extractor Converter 3x1 Soundbar 18G HDMI 2.0 ARC Support - HDCP 2.2 - Dolby Atmos Digital/DTS Passthrough CEC, HDR, Dolby Vision HDR10 Support (HDA-935)
    Not the same as normal HDMI splitter. HDMI eARC and ARC carries sound through a seperate channel, not the regular channel over HDMI. So a soundbar that takes in sound via an eARC or ARC channel is only going to accept sound on those channels and not the regular HDMI sound channels.
    The OREI eARC switcher is a eARC compatible switcher with 3 input ports. It took 2 years to come to this. I am sure there are other models out there. Maybe get a new TV. In 2-3 years time, when you change a new TV, it is likely to have an eARC port and have Atmos processing capabilities. But note that you will need to have Atmos too. Not just eARC.
    In the meantime, does this work?
    Yes. Atmos shows up.
    What you need to do on your TV. Play around with the setting. Bitstream, not PCM. Pass through selected. Input vs output. PCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital+.

    Recently picked up the Sonos Arc, Gen 3 Sub and Era 300s( sale last week was absolutely killer) however I couldn’t figure out how to get Dolby Atmos on my Hisense 100 U8K and still maintain 4K 120hz on both PS5 and Xbox Series X since the eARC HDMI port which also the 4K 144hz was taken up by the Sonos Arc. That left only 1 other 4K 144hz port open, but I after watching this video I bought a CORSADH 8K@60Hz 4K@120Hz HDMI2.1 Switch 4 in 1 Out with Audio Extractor from amazon that supports full Dolby Atmos and has 4 HDMI inputs now everything works perfectly(ended up connecting the Nintendo switch and IPTV box as well) Thank You Peter, your video was so helpful, I have subscribed!

      Hey, I have been meaning to do that for a long time. I know I post the Ugreen cable as an affiliate link but I make like 20 cents from each sale of the cable. Thank you so much for making this video. I have a beautiful 70" sony tv with ARC and a Sonos arc w/ones as surround and a gen 3 sub. @@PeterPee Should have waited to try this before getting too excited. It does not give me atmos on my system. Using Xbox Series X (with HDMI cable included with system) and output to the Sonos Arc (also with HDMI cable included with product) the xbox will not recognize a dolby atmos capable output. Tried my apple TV too and that didn't work either. I'm also now hearing occasional crackling in the sound. I never had a crackling issue with my prior setup so I'm not sure what is going on. I will try some of my high quality HDMI cables to confirm that is not the issue, but I'm thinking I got a bad unit. Hopefully I was just unlucky and others are happy with this.

      @@PeterPee I received the 935 on Monday and tested it out. It does work, however, switching between sources was way too slow for me and in some cases, there was no sound until I rebooted the inputted device. The remote control was glitchy as well. So, I may have to go with the Arcana. But first I will wait until I get my new Apple TV 4k device, which is available on/after 11/4. I am also waiting for the new Amazon Fire TV Cube, which I am expecting by tomorrow. We'll see how it goes. My existing/older Fire TV Cube already produces Dolby Atmos sound, as seen in my Sonos app. I'm hoping the new Apple TV will do the same so I can avoid the Arcana or similar.

    Hi Peter. I watched couple of videos on this OREI but I must say you have given very elaborative video on the subject.
    I have a projector, which has only standard HDMI with no ARC or EARC. I have recently bought HDMI 2.0 cables. Also planning to buy Denon 760H 7.1 Atmos AVR.
    My two queries
    1. Your video talks about only Soundbar. Whether in the same way it will work with AVR as well. right or there would be some changes to it?
    2. Whether need to compulsorily buy HDMI 2.1 for lossless sound or 2.0 will also work just fine?
    Please give your guidance..

    I have the $40 version of this for my Sonos Beam Gen 2. (I don't believe my port states E-Arc however, just Arc). There is also a version with two hdmi out ports for about $69. Works really well. I didn't think it through when I bought my monitor and realized it only had 2 Hdmi ports so I needed this for more devices anyway. Many of these devices will claim to give you Dolby Atmos, but apparently many of them will not work with Sonos products. Orie does.

    Hi Pete
    Got the new hd 935 and it works flawlessly. This is far better than hdfury arcana. Three inputs are really great and works without any tweaks. The only issue is that the sound from 2.1, 5.1 or 7.1 we need to manually select and while selected the tv screen goes off and coming back. But having 3 inputs and sound to sonos arc works without any sync setting changes. Definitely way better than HDfury arcana. Really appreciate you made this video 👍 Now I am out of this buggy hdfury arcana

    • @PeterPee
      @PeterPee  Рік тому

      No. The regular sound from source device travel to the TV using HDMI audio. It doesn't go on HDMI ARC or eARC. The regular HDMI audio bandwidth is much higher. It's only the ARC channel in HDMI that has lower bandwidth. The eARC changes that. On your TV, there is only one eARC port. The rest of the HDMI ports are non ARC ports.

      It doesn't upgrade the ARC connection itself. It allows you to accept full lossless atmos from EXTERNAL devices and outputs eARC to your Sonos soundbar (Beam Gen 2 or Arc). So if you are using the TV's onboard apps, it doesn't actually allow those full lossless Atmos.

    Hi Peter
    Sorry i’m an old guy a little tech challenged…. but i was wondering? is this product a way……OR is there a way to connect my audio mixer up to my Sonos Beam,ones, and mini sub to be able to play my acoustic guitar/&voice and have it come through the Sonos speakers. I wouldn’t expect Dolby Atmos just to be able to utilize the pristine full range w sub to create a pseudo immersive surround experience. Thanks. ( if you don’t know…. it probably can’t be done 😄)

    • @PeterPee
      @PeterPee  Рік тому

      Haha... Thanks for having that much faith in me. Actually, yes, you just need a audio convertor. From your Guitar/audio mixer, output via analog 3.5mm or RCA output, into this audio convertor that will convert it to Optical. And your optical will then go out to the Beam using the optical-HDMI convertor that came with your Beam. But... there is a very very slight lag that you might observe. And if you are using a guitar or mic, you might notice/feel that delay.

    I have an issue with Sky Q lip sync. I have changed the settings in Sky Q to Digital Plus Audio, as of course I'd like to get better sound from my system. I'm running an LG G1 with earc to my Sonos Arc and then have my Sky Q & Xbox Series X connected to the TV. The native TV apps and xbox have no sound issues but the Sky Q is suffering from lip sync issues - the picture is ahead of the audio. I was looking at the HD Fury (too expensive) but would this cure the problem? If so how would this be connected within my setup? Thank you

    • @PeterPee
      @PeterPee  Рік тому

      It will remove the lip sync issue. So the connection will be SkyQ connected to OREI HDA-935 through 1 of 3 HDMI input ports. Then your LG G1 connected to the OREI HDA-935 through the eARC (TV) port on the OREI, then the Sonos ARC connected to the OREI HDA-935 through the eARC (soundbar) port on the OREI.
      But you may have issues with the TV's own apps. Not sure if the tradeoff is worth it.

    Hi Peter, I really love your explanations and the in-depth look at some of these obscure devices that solve weird issues with electronics.
    I wanted to ask you about solving this problem I have, which is a Beam Gen 2 that is currently connected to my PC via the included optical dongle. My monitor is a typical PC gaming screen, so it doesn't have ARC of any kind at the back, just DP 1.4 and two HDMI 2.1 ports. I wanted to use the Beam to play audio coming from 2 sources - my PS5 and my PC, and switch between these 2 sources when needed. Will the device from your video let me do that? Is it even possible to achieve?

I've researched this a little bit further and if I understand correctly, I need an eArc capable AVR, for example Onkyo TX-NR6100, with "Works with SONOS" certification and that will let me just use my monitor as a display only(which is the only thing it can do anyway), but the AVR will take care of everything sound related, right? I don't really care about lossless Atmos for now, since I usually watch movies on my PC anyway, which only outputs DD+ 5.1 thanks to the optical connection. You can use the tv hdmi port (I use appletv) and it transfer sound to it auto. So its not a brick with a new tv. Its more ports for you to connect all devices. But if you want dts and e-arc. Choose a tv with many hdmi 2.1 ports. If you want only truehd/dts with sonos arc as example. And using a old non e-arc tv. Buy this. 1) always needing to remove and reinsert the hdmi cable from my beam 2 in order to wake it when using it with this HDA-935 after long periods of no audio or reboots (either because i muted my pc for more than 15/20mins or because i restarted pc/the beam itself)
    neither cycling inputs or audio setting on the extractor can help solve this. only reinserting cables would solve it.
    this cant be right as on top of inconvenience, it sounds like its gona wear out the cable and hdmi inputs very fast if i need to replug cables every few hours
    2) no other audio setting on the extractor works properly except the 7.1. i could select stereo output on my PC and change the extractor to 2ch or 5.1 but i will either get errors from my PC OR sound would come out showing as 7.1 pcm on the sonos app.
    anyone have similar issues? None of these issues are present when i connect my beam 2 to pc directly with optical so i think my beam is not the issue

    from what I understand, and I think this just comes from the confusing advertisement from apple, there is just no support of lossless atmos since it doesn't support TrueHD to begin with. A bit confusing if you use apple tv as an example and put lossless atmos in the title. even like infuse or plex on apple tv, it'll simply decode the trueHD track and turn it into PCM multichannel without the metadata for atmos (I've yet to test this on the newest a15 model, but judging from the lack of advertisement on this feature, I really doubt it). The only readily available box I can think of that supports TrueHD is probably the nvidia shield.

      So are you saying we can’t get lossless Atmos from an AppleTV 4K using HDMI eARC because Apple TV simply doesn’t support it?

    • @weichenyang0723
      @weichenyang0723 Рік тому +1

      @@steverupert6988 in short, yes. streaming app as you know only does atmos via dolby digital plus (which is lossy atmos) doesn't matter if it is apple tv 4k or not, that is just internet bandwidth limitation. But if you have local media server (like plex or emby) and you rip your own blurays with trueHD track then you probably want something other than atv4k. But if that's not the case for you, atv4k is fine (well and just about any streaming box).

    • @jb7753
      @jb7753 Рік тому +1

      I use ATV4k and sonos app reports to me that it is playing atmos or digital 5.1 or multichannel pcm. It just depends on what setting you have set in the settings section of the atv box. Example, if I play content that is not atmos content but have the settings in the atv to put out atmos the content plays in multichannel pcm (as reported by somos app). If I play that same content and change the settings in the atv to put out digital 5.1 sonos app reports dolby digital 5.1... If I play atmos content with the atmos settings in atv enabled sonos app reports playing in atmos..... what am I missing here?

    • @weichenyang0723
      @weichenyang0723 Рік тому

      @@jb7753 the atmos content you see is the low bit rate lossy version. Atmos is really just a market term, and a bit more than just a badge on the sonos app. Atmos track can either be in Dolby digital plus codec format (the low bit rate lossy one, it’s essentially a modified AC3 codec) or trueHD codec (high bit rate lossless). If you stream your context from online sources, it’ll just be the Dolby digital plus atmos regardless of your streaming device, apple or not. But if you have local contents with trueHD track, the Apple TV 4K will simply decode and output it as PCM (which is “lossless”) but without the atmos metadata. Like I mention above, only a few streaming boxes can pass trueHD codec track like the nvidia shield. If you are only watching online contents (like nexflix…etc) this simply doesn’t matter since everything the audio track you stream is lossy in low but rate anyway.

    • @PeterPee

      I am not sure why they say that. The purpose of the product is to get full lossless Atmos out of a TV that doesn't have ARC. This product comes between the source and the soundbar, not the TV. And the purpose is to get full eARC bandwidth out, without being limited by the TV.
      Maybe they are referring to not connecting it to a non eARC soundbar?
