When I go out walking in the streets l always chant Om gan ganapataye namaha intuitively.
I thought it was GAN and not GAM.

Both "Ganapataye" and "Ganpataye" are variations of the same term used to address Lord Ganesha. The difference lies in the pronunciation and transliteration from the original Sanskrit.
In Sanskrit, the term is written as "गणपतये" (pronounced as "Ganapataye"), where the vowel sound after the consonant "pa" is an "a" (अ) sound. However, in some transliterations or regional pronunciations, it may be written as "Ganpataye" with an "a" sound instead of "a" sound.
Both variations are widely used and accepted in the chanting and worship of Lord Ganesha. The choice of pronunciation or transliteration may vary depending on personal preference, regional customs, or specific traditions. Ultimately, what matters is the sincerity and devotion with which the mantra is chanted.

To clarify, the proper term is "Ganapataye" or "Ganpataye" with the "gan" sound. Sometimes we hear people say Gan and it sounds like Gam... But Gan is short for Ganesh... The "m" or "n" gets lost in the vibration of it. (Gam is pronounced as Gum) Then make it long, loud, and have vibration to it and come from the navel. When I say "Gam" or Gum, or Gan" I make sure my navel is involved. Helps lower chakra. They are interchangeable and as long as your consciousness is devoted and you get full of the feeling of prosperity things will be just fine. Dhieyo is a wise sage.

The Muladhara chakra is located at the base of the spine and is associated with grounding, stability, and a sense of security. It is considered the foundation chakra that connects us to the physical world and provides a sense of rootedness. The hip bones are a spitting image of the elephants head. Ganesha with the Muladhara chakra and the representation of the hip bones as part of its visual symbolism are commonly recognized.
