This dude's solo career was so cold it ALMOST made you forget he started out in New Edition. The King of R&B!!
He has too much personality to fully shine being in a group. His departure ended up benefiting both him and NE big time

He killed it when he went solo. I mean his whole 1st album was full of #1 hits. Bobby was bad!!!
@@LeannaMiller-z5h* 2nd album, first album wasn't that great
@@VODaddyFresh That's right. "My Prerogative" was the 2nd album. I almost forgot that bc the first one was kind of silent and didn't get much press nor play. But the 2nd made him a star and household name. I could Google it, but how many hits got platinum and gold on that album?
This is an 80s masterpiece. His finest hour.
Guess you maybe a very big fan of Bobby Brown 😊
At the time Whitney Houston seemed to be perfect match

Very, very brief 💀

I thank God I live in a generation that music was about love and passion nowadays is about discussing sex, money and drugs
Bobby was thee first R&B singer to rap on his own tracks. It was unheard of in 89 & 90. He blended Hip Hop & R&B. Before Mary J. Before Aaliyah. Before Chris Brown. Before everybody else. Bobby did it first.
that blend you’re referring to is called New Jack Swing 🔥
Nah.. Teena Marie did it on Square Biz..
Incorrect. The very first was Jody Watley ‘Friends’ with Rakim 😂😂😂

The beat hit the speakers 🔊 hard
Produced by LA and Babyface. You can even hear the R&B group, The Deele in the background
Iconic beat definitely will get you moving 🕺
The confidence and straight up arrogance Bobby had is iconic. He was good. He knew it. I knew it. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Bobby KILLED this track and his Don't Be Cruel Album should be considered an R&B legacy Album!

You know, it's clear just from this song that the man was intense and demanding of respect, so was Whitney, I think she actually loved Bobby and that's why it was so hard for her to quit him.
This whole album had nothing but hits...

+broccolihart71 Yup! Awesome huh?!
+broccolihart71 No doubt!!!
+broccolihart71 So True!!! i saw the "King of Stage " tour here in Chicago, in April of 1989, with Karyn White, and Levert, when B.Brown, entered the stage from the sky, sitting on a Throne, it was on one of my top 5 concerts, ever!!!
Robert Jefferson that's awesome...even when he did his cameo appearance in the Martin Lawrence movie "A thin line between love & hate" you could totally tell that, he missed the spotlight and the ladies were still jockin' hard.
+broccolihart71 That was a funny ass movie!!! i think when Bobby, had the auditions , for the club in that movie he was dancing, to Zapp's " Heartbreaker"
Babyface, L.A. Reid and Darryl Simmons delivered a masterpiece of a track and album for Bobby, props go to the LaFace crew!!💯💯

Yeah he just didn't need New Edition anymore at that point
Yeah, he's real good when comes to the hits part
Probably one of the best albums ever made. Everyone laughed at Whitney for calling him " The King Of RNB". But it had some truth to it -During the time when this Album came out Bobby set a high standard that no one else had ever matched. He could actually Sing, Dance, Write, and Rap on his own songs. Alot of artists cant do that today.
^^^^ THIS
If Whitney would have said that in 88 or 89 would have made sense but she said that in 2000 when she won her Grammy and told the audience this award is for u the original R and B King by that time Bobby’s career was dead

@@jnicemint Bobby's Don't Be Cruel came out in '88 and the album had 5 #1 hits on it. It carried through the next couple years. But Bobby got with Whitney and she ruined him. Sadly his career didn't last too long after that. It wasn't M.C Hammer that sabotaged Bobby's streak of good music.
The greatest selling album of 1989, with 12 million copies sold. Dude was on top of the world.

Back in the day when Bobby Brown ruled the world.
They dont give this man his props. Before Bobby, everyone was listening to Luther, freddie Jackson and others. He was The one who mainstreamed edgy R&B and the music game changed since then. He fought w Baby Face to add raps to the songs, no one was doing that, he turned out to be right and a game changer. So when Whitney was saying the king of R&B, the original bad boy, she was right. Dont Be Cruel is one of the greatest albums ever made period

Bobby Brown defined the late eighties and nineties. He was so multi talented. He could rap, sing and dance. I loved the video every little step because it showcased his dancing skill watching him dance was mesmerizing. He doesn't get the credit he deserves because his personal life has overshadowed his talent. My teenage yr
would not have been the same without him. Thanks Bobby for those fun summer times grooving and dancing to your music.
That was the media's fault for letting his personal life overshadow his legacy. When the Osborne's were being wild, they were praised but corporate media created a narrative of derision for Bobby and Whitney but always respected wyte trainwrecks regardless of the depths of their pathologies.

He defined the late 80s. By '93 Bobby was completely washed. He didn't adapt to the times like some of his peers. A shame as he should've been cleaning up during that mid-90s Hip-Hop/Soul era. I see people blaming "the media", that's nonsense. Bobby had it all and he literally p1ssed it away.

Bobby needs a tribute because he is definitely music history of great artists regardless of who he is today and even today he's still performing with New Edition another part of R&b best male groups in musical history . I think Chris Brown and Usher would make a great tribute for Bobby because both would do a great job but Chris would kill the Bobby dance moves better.

J May Great! He should but watch this generation of younger ppl be hating acting like he doesnt deserve it and play him like he wasn't the shit back then try to downplay him.
+Fly Nina The man was on top of the world then. Regardless of the negative that has happened, his contribution to music, R & B music to be specific, both with New Edition and solo, cannot be denied. Yes, the younger generation clown him and dog him for his past because they don't know or care to know his music, but real talk, R & B and, even, hip hop would not be the same without this man. i cant see Ralph having the same success even he wouldve dropped his solo effort first. Bobby was simply THAT GUY. Loads of charisma
Willie Booth Exactly, the Gift rested on Bobby!
Politely disagree. Ralph was basically the NE lead vocalist so he's forever linked with the group. So going solo isn't gonna feel right. Look at BBD no one expected them to get that much success but they were new & fresh because they hadn't been heard much in NE yet they still had that NE appeal. Besides Bobby had that bad boy appeal & getting voted out of the band was mass appealing.
Ralph could never come close to Bobby B why'd you think he kicked out of New Edition

this guy is amazing he is so under ratted.
Jake Miles.
Gloria Harris huh?
Jake Miles underrated? not really... dude was extremely popular back between 1988-1992, he fucked it all up.
Damn right he was under ratted... They didn't snitch on him
Polish Sausage I don't think people give him the credit he is so as a performer, especially considering how influential he was in his time. I feel like people have forgotten about him.
Saw Bobby in concert in 89 and he killed it!!!
I was at the Humpin Arpund Concert Houston Tx..92
What bobby said don't be cruel because I would never be cruel to you 🤷🏾♂️❗
Today is the 30th anniversary of Don't Be Cruel!
Bobby was only 19 here and became a superstar in his own right, even bigger than New Edition although they was also at their peak in 88. Salute to both Dont be cruel and NE heartbreak sold stupid millions between them
there will never be another bobby brown, regardless of his life, we are left with bangers and memories
Still listening in 2021… one of my favorite songs of Bobby… God! I miss this era😔.. nowadays so much Damn garbage on the radio..it’s sickening!
Bro is still one of my favorite singers / performers of all-time.
*When Bobby Brown & New Edition both reinvented themselves in 1988, R&B was never the same. Bobby ended up having the biggest album of 1989 & New Edition, after having a successful album with Heartbreak in their own right, also became solo stars & a superstar trio that impacted the greatest decade of music in 1990.*
Johnny gil- my my my/ the floor
Ralph tresvant - sensitivity
- bell biv devoe - poison etc
"With a bad attitude I can't compete".Bobby was the bomb in 1988 when this album came out he could do it all New Edition replaced him with Johnny Gill
They're from Boston. New Edition/Bobby Brown are wicked smart. :)
Those were the days , indeed🙏🏽
@@powerglory736 man they all came out swinging and dropping some classics that still rock today! 1988-1992 NE members had the R&B game in a chokehold.
June 20, 1988 Don't Be Cruel album was released. Bobby was 19. This album changed the playing field for the New Jack Swing genre.
June 21st actually. Same Tuesday as N.E. Heartbreak.
Don't Be Cruel and N.E Heartbreak were released on Tuesday June 21,1988 on MCA Records.
@@plawson8577 both great albums. Game changers.
This album what a crisp sound. The internet does not do it justice. A true masterpiece of an album(CD)
This needs to be on a record player, tape, or CD. On some big a$$ 80s speakers.
Bruh the 80's, off the meter, Zapp, Gap, MJ, Prince, Janet, Luther, Teddy P, Morris & the Time, Guy, Keith Sweat, EWF, The Isley Brothers, Frankie Beverly Maze, Rick James, I know we missed a few, bring back this era that's how you Make America Great Again.
I'm still listening to Bobby Brown in 2018. The 80's & 90's music will never get old 2 me no expiration date on good music like this
The music for my generation brings me back to high school
