Great video! I'd like to see you do one on the abnormalities. For example, what to do when the IFD doesn't switch to vloc on an VOR-A approach or how to program a hold after you've activated an approach and get a new clearance.
Just going from Garmin GTN during IR(R) training to 440s & 540s on my SR22 - this is going to be invaluable - great vids, Martin and brilliantly explained
Thanks for this Martin. I stopped flying during Covid and got a new IFD440 installed over that same period. As I get back into the swing of things these videos are perfectly timed and very well done. Now I just need to show back up on Beechtalk again...
I wouldn't worry too much. First, Avidyne's engineering team has been focused on their Vantage system lately. Second, future IFD upgrades can happen through software, which you can install on your existing unit. - Martin
@ Thanks! Avionics are hard to navigate (no pun intended) because they seem to be stable for years and years and then suddenly there’s a massive shakeup.
Not 100% sure where you are going with this question, but when you make a mistake, you correct it. And in turbulence, I find it easiest to do so using knobs and buttons, instead of the touch screen. Your mileage may vary. - Martin
Martin, this series has been awesome for me. Just getting into a plane with an IFD 540 and this has been an awesome introduction!
Glad I could help - enjoy the IFD!

Thanks, Gary. Several more episodes are planned, which will hopefully answer those questions (and many more).

I think I could be your copilot after this Martin. Great video that shows how really simple it can be. Thanks so much!
You are very welcome, Preston!

Thanks for making these Martin! Helped me out quite a bit with my new IFD440.
We use these in our clubs aircraft. They are so intuitive to use. Love them
I agree, Christopher - the user interface is very good!

WOW that was good Martin !
Thank you, Steve.

Excellent video my friend!
Thank you, Mike!

I need one of these, Martin! Maybe two. Redundancy. Thanks!
You won't regret your choice, Jeff!

I love this stuff. thanks for presenting it.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. 😎👍 🇨🇱
My pleasure!

Would be helpful if you slowed down. I'm a beginner, trying to learn this unit. At about 4:40, you made so many key strokes, I completely lost it.
Ed, in UA-cam you can change the playback speed. Maybe try half or quarter speed?

@@martinpauly I didn't know that. I'll give it a try. Thanks, Martin!
Was part 3 uploaded? I can't find it.
Hi Martin, could you do a video for checklists on the 540. I created some on the ipad trainer, can i download them to the ifd 540?
I’m about to upgrade from 430w to 540. I’m nervous that they’re working on something new and I’ll be wishing I’d waited 😅

And what happens when you make a mistake enroute IFR in turbulence?
