  • Joe Russo's Almost Dead celebrated their tenth anniversary with the assistance of Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir at Brooklyn Bowl. Ten years to the day before, JRAD played their first gig at the same location where the concert was held.
After the first set on Thursday, Weir entered to a thunderous ovation from the packed house. Bobby entered the stage as Russo and his comrades, guitarists Tom Hamilton and Scott Metzger, bassist Dave Dreiwitz, and pianist Marco Benevento, were just getting into "Jack Straw" after kicking off the evening with "Tennessee Jed" and "Til The Morning Comes." In his duet with Weir on "Jack Straw,".

A fantastic version of the Grateful Dead classic , and it was great to see Bob Weir up there doing his thing . I'm no 'Deadhead' , but there are times when the music they play can touch me like no other band can . The feeling , the imagery you get from this song is at the highest level and it gets better with every version I hear . I always like to remind people that the first gig they ever played was at the student union building at Menlo College in Atherton , Ca . That was a long time ago , but I'm reminded of it every time I drive by the college on El Camino Real .

Bobby still sounds great. I'm on the second verse, if this was D&C I'd still be listening to the intro😜. Also, how about Bobby playing some leads?👍

A bit rough on the leads, but I agree about the tempo... Even this seems slow, but it's still faster than Dead & Slo

The collective stoke among the band members in that first minute is all of us.

Joe said “oh shit” and got right back into tune when Bobby unexpectedly cut right back into the the hook at the end lol

Bobby looking and sounding good, a nice tan, got his beard trimmed, looks like he's been getting some sun. Things got a little muddy and congested three quarters in on that verse, everybody overplaying over the vocals.

Yeah - but it doesn't seem to matter, when they hit that ending crescendo it made it all worth it . A very good version of a great song .
