I played this song on my way to prison to remind myself i could do this. when i got in there i met the only other deadhead on the compound and we kept each other going thru music. He was white and im black but prison racial tension was never between us. We were from different walks of life and from different parts of the country. The only thing we had in common was the Grateful Dead and that was all we needed. When one of us was feelin down we'd crank up the tunes and jam. Makes me tear up thinkin about it. Couldnt have made it w/o him and the Dead is what brought us together, forever grateful.✌🏾😎🍄

Thanks Jerry, Bob, Phil, Bill, Mickey, Brent, and Robert Hunter. And God bless the former Dead. They still live among us. ETA - The very next day after I wrote this, Phil Lesh passed. The line, "I will get by, I will survive," became a mantra of resilience in the Dead community. When Jerry Garcia fell into a diabetic coma in July 1986, it looked like the group could be finished; when he returned to action in December, the group opened with "Touch Of Grey," reassuring fans that they would indeed get by.

While my life flew behind me, I missed out on parts of my kids' early years, and I regret it tremendously. We're close now, but I'll never get those days back. Keep it together. It's worth it. I just had to come here this song again today as I wore my Jerry Garcia t-shirt live from the Fontanne theater. There are certain songs that touch your soul that never get old and always give you chills every time you listen to them! This is one of those inspirational Timeless songs and God bless everybody here that this has helped! Rest in peace Jerry!

This comment section is ridiculous. I come here to listen to music and end up reading the rantings of psychotic, mentally ill paranoid lunatics. Thankfully the pot smoking, acid dropping, tie-dye Deadhead hippies helped to reaffirm my faith in humanity. Thank Jerry not everyone has gone completely bat guano.

This is one of my favorite dead songs even though in terms of their catalog is more simple structured. The song just helped me a lot during my time getting off heroin, being in the judicial system, tossed around rehab to rehab by court. 8+ years off Heroin and even though life can still be extremely hard and a lot of days I just wanna never leave my home I somehow come back to this song. WE WILL SURVIVE!

My uncle Bobby turned me on to the Grateful Dead at an early age back in the 80's. This was always one of his favorite songs. We lost him last September to COVID. I play this song today in remembrance of him. Most of my music tastes today reflect what he introduced to me when I was young. I love you uncle Bobby, I miss you, and this will forever be our song.

    "I will survive!"

Just heard the heartbreaking news that NBA legend Bill Walton has died. I thought of this video almost immediately, as Walton gifted Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart the Celtics jacket that he wears in this video, from 1987. Walton was immensely proud of his two seasons as a Celtic, and I'm sure he'll be cheering them from Heaven as the Celtics go after Banner 18.
    RIP, Bill Walton☘

True story. Summer of 1971, I drove a van from Phoenix to LA, then took the coast highway to SF. No idea where to go in SF, took an exit off the highway, heard some music, found a parking space, and followed the sound. Free concert on a dock with Jerry Garcia and the dead. What a different world it was way back then.
