Ok, after almost 3 years, the mystery of Kana-san’s tears have finally been solved. As I write this, I’m sitting in Kana san’s Chun cafe in Akasaka Japan (sometimes the answers take a bit of digging and perseverance lol)! Kana San isn’t here today, but the waitress was kind enough to answer my question. It seems that the skit called for blank faces from the members (similar to Matsumura-San and Ikuta Erika-san’s “Karaage Sisters” skit. Kana-San kept laughing during the practice rehearsal for the skit, and couldn’t keep a straight face during the live performance. This is what made her start crying (thinking she had ruined the performance); thus, that was why she was laughing and crying in anger at herself at the same time. Mystery solved!
Ok, for those of us who perhaps aren’t completely familiar with Nogizaka46, and need a scorecard of who we are seeing here: 1) Red: Sayuri Matsumura (松村 沙友理), “Matsumin” 2) Blue: Kazumi Takayama (高山一実), “Kazumin” 3) White: Yumi Wakatsuki (若月佑美), “Wakatsuki Yumin” 4) Yellow: Nakada Kana (中田花奈), “Kanamin” 5) Green: Tamami Sakaguchi (阪口珠美), “Tamamin” 6) Purple: Minami Umezawa (梅澤美波), “Minamin”
I wish I knew the back-story on Nakada Kana, and why she was so upset. Obviously, something had gone on behind the scenes. She could chuckle at times at Sayuri's antics (they all did); but you could tell she really didn't want to be doing this. Floating around the net somewhere are a few photos of them behind stage in the costumes, and Kana-san is definitely hurting. This skit is initially hilarious to watch, until you realize what she is going through. I hope it all worked out!
@@48g46 Thanks for your comment! I have never been able to conclusively find out for sure what happened, but I think that everyone was sleep-deprived (as you may know, this was filmed during their 46-hour TV marathon). In Kana-san's case, I think she had been awake longer than all of them, and became angry with herself when she messed up some of the dance moves. Possibly the combination of all of that, combined with most of them feeling silly and somewhat humiliated by the costumes they were having to wear, was just too much for her in her exhausted state. I hate to say this, but her crying scene probably had a silver lining: without it, this skit might never have made it into a highlight reel. Here in the USA, we have a hard time finding Japanese shows, so many times we have to depend on UA-cam videos that pop up in our recommended feeds. I just happened to see this because I knew of Sayuri-san through the Kakegurui movie, but I became interested in Kana-san after seeing this. . .Now I follow her on Instagram!
Ok, after two years I think I may have found the answer to Kana-chan's tears (which is tough for people like me who don't speak Japanese lol): I think Kana was upset that she was messing up the dance after practicing so hard. If I read correctly from a fan's comment in another UA-cam video, she had been practicing the choreography all week, but kept laughing during the rehearsal, and thus lost her timing since it was a mashup of many different dance moves from other songs. Nakada-san being the professional that she always is, she was concerned that she caused the skit to fail. Kana is one of my favorite singers of Nogizaka, and her unique strong voice that can powerfully sing the lower notes means she can always turn a good song into a great one (for example, her duet part with Mahiro on Futougou, or her work on the song 人生を考えたくなる with the girl's school quartet (女子校カルテット) are both high water marks for the group's musical talents). In this role, she stands with such talented members as Rotty, Kazumin, and Rena Yamazaki who are usually kept in reserve on the soundtrack until a key part of the song is reached; then they put it over the top!

I thought this was a recent one because they are keeping their distance from each other the start, then I saw Wakatsuki. lol.

I didnt really understand your point? Kana and Sayurin had an issue or were they having a fight or something before it starts?
