i just watched this movie and it has instantly become one of my favorite movies. the acting, scenary, fighting scenes, emotion, camera work are all done perfectly. anyone who hasn't seen this, i recommend you watch it. the battle of red cliff wasn't one of my favorite battles in the game but this movie made me learn to appreciate it. simply an epic movie.

Loved this movie!! And American viewers are so lucky, in China this movie came out in two parts, released almost a year apart. John Woo really outdid himself with this one. The effects were mind-blowingly realistic, the action was epic, and there was even a love triangle for the romantics! I hope this movie creates some interest in China's colorful history, because Red Cliff was only one of many epic adventures in 'Three Kingdoms!'

One of the best combat battlefield films I have ever seen. It s definitely an inspirational classics. Well done with great cinematic and realistic looking props.
For some of you who have watched it, find the full version (Asian version) it is longer and decided into 2 films. I bet you would find it more interesting, it shows more detail, battle and characterisations

notmy nameno idk. I feel like every one has a tradition of watching certain movies every year around this time. Mine includes this and die hard and a few others cause that's when I am actually at my home where I have a big screen Tv. During the year I am at uni and just have my laptop.

This was an amazing movie just saw it on Netflix. Im a huge fan of 3 Kingdoms lore, Dynasty Warriors, but this has to be John Woos finest film. Well done, and done in a very Hollywood type fashion. Way awesome!!!
You should look for the full version. Netflix only had the condensed 2.5 hr movie. This movie is actually two parts for a total of 5 hours. It is well worth your time too :)

Excellent film, great to see Woo working with Leung again and without hollywood influences! Few movies combine passion and emotion with action properly and this one does it superlatively!

Alright people let's clear some things up. 1.This film has almost nothing to do with the dynasty warriors games or RoTK, instead it's based on the historical battle of redcliffs 208 AD. 2.This move is about 50% accurate so don't start going on about every minute detail. 3.Watch the full 288min version it's much better then the short American one. PS: If you read the first couple sentences at the top of the wikipedia page and the one sentence under "plot" all these things would be cleared up. Thumb this up so there isn't any more confusion about any of these things.

Techon It's a little late to reply, but it shouldn't be too hard to get a hold of, but might depend on what country you are in. Here in Australia was easy to find at local Jb-Hi-Fi shop. Amazon is probably the easiest way otherwise.
The best "Dynasty Warriors" movie.
I sometimes hear people tell me about how unrealistic the fighting moves, the flow of plot, and the military strategies are in this film. However, the main point of this film is not to attract your mere eyeballs but to introduce you to the romance behind it----how the characters felt and how intensively they felt. You can't even begin to appreciate this film or the history behind it until you view it not according to its concrete realities but the complex human emotions and motivations behind it. Feel it; don't think it.

It doesnt have to attract my eyeballs. I still prefer watching historically accurate military strategies such as those shown in HBO rome, a show which also wasnt about military strategy or fighting but focused on the characters and still managed to portray the roman fighting style perfectly.

I have waited practically 2 years for this movie to come out in theatres even though I knew I could have bought it on DVD from Asia! I wanted it to be a true movie experience and now finally its here!!! (although annoyingly cut down by 3 hours because they think we cant handle the names.... well some of us cant but we shouldnt suffer if we do know all the names!!!)

This was a really amazing film. Beautiful fight scenes and cinamatography. Costumes, even some special effects. Decent job of acting as well. Maybe a little hammy in parts, but very well executed.

ive watched this august 2008 i think roughly a year ago !! ive already also watched part 2 lol. hopefully movie goers will know the characters as historically accurate as possible for them to appreciate the people of the three kingdoms era.

Love this movie, I am a really big fan of the dynasty warriors franchise and this movie was amazing, although they did not pronounce Cao Cao's name correctly. Chow Chow is the wrong pronunciation, but still one of the best dynasty movies

This is the first asian movie I watched and I just loved it. I just found out this is a strongly shortened version, and that makes me REALLY angry, because as it turns out, it looks like I've just watched half of the movie! Goddammit!

One if the best movies ever made
I am familiar with ancient chinese history during this time. The battle was a piviotal point and stopped cao caos expansion southward. Its a shame sun quan and liu bei became enemies later all because of a territorial aquistion made by liu bei. This movie was brilliantly made, I expected nothing less from john woo. This period of history was chaotic and the three kingdoms strategy made my zhuge liang would also take effect eventually.

Yes, for quite a while, actually. The chinese version John Woo made is actually split in two parts of about 2.5 hours each. What we get to see is only a condensed, but nevertheless awesome version.
I myself will try to get my hands on the chinese DVD's with all the footage.
OMFG. I read so many comments that this movie is based on Dynasty Warriors. For lazy people who don't like to study history. Dynasty Warrior the game was based off of a novel written in 15th century Ming China called Romance of Three Kingdoms which is a story about the 3 Kingdoms of Han Dynasty. That's 2000 years ago just when Rome was still around. Play too much games and don't read enough books.
Actually the Romance of the Three Kingdoms period was around the 2nd century Han Dynasty.
dont forget, Records of the Three Kingdoms was written during Han dynasty, its different from the novel, obviously, one is novel and one is a historical text.
