Very happy to see you building this project! it is always nice to give new life to old frames! Peugeot made very good frames with good geometry and attention to detail. Like the dedicated post for the rear derailleur, etc. This is like my first MTB ,bought at 91. Mine was the mangalloy series Peugeot built. Still my favourite bike to ride, mostly unchanged!
Unreasonably cool. 26 certainly ain't dead! I've got a Bianchi Milano that I've been wanting to give a similar fixed gear treatment to and your project is super inspiring! Great work as usual.
Such a cool built! I've got a similar single speed and they really rip in that configuration, I find. I also love that you explain what you're doing. Awesome and inspiring job!
I've just started riding 28c on my fixed gear bike and it is so much fun, This build looks like a joy to ride combining the Mtb and the fixed gear aspects props to my man!!
So sick mate, very inspired to do something similar myself. Recently gave a neglected 2011 Subrosa Malum a new lease of life and did a tracklocross style build on it, been loving it. Wanted to do a 90’s mtb project for a while but never thought of doing one with a fixed wheel, awesome stuff
In the 90s most bike messengers had hardtail and rigid fork mountain bikes. Most were single speed, some with gears and some fixedgear. But steel mountain bikes were the preferred method for getting around the city. 26" wheels are just more nimble, faster and sturdy
Very interesting! I'm 96% sure the bike had been through at least one rebuild before this one. Several parts were 15+ years newer than the frame, which I believe dated back to around 1989-91 (it depends a bit on where it was first sold). I have a Peugeot U.S. Express I'm trying to figure out how to rebuild... basically the same as the Black Rock, with some different parts. It's good to know 2.3" tires will fit! Nice work.
Fixed gear retro mtb wow! Definitely something new! I also like how you used zipties to attach the grips, maybe ill try that when i change mine, here people usually spray the insides of the grip with alcohol and slap it on the bars 💕🖤
I’ve been wanting to convert my oldie mtb into a fixed. Never knew those cogs existed! Now I can just shop for a 26in wheel with a disc brake hub. Wish me luck! And thanks for this post!
I have the very same bike since '94, when I was 10. Loads of memories of long rides on mountains and jumps such a bike wouldn't be expected to take. Only thing is it's far larger than yours and I'm only 5.7 - seems my father was unjustifiably optimistic when he brought it home. My "proper" MTB was stolen 5 years ago and I could only afford a track-style bike since, which is hardly a replacement lol. I was torn between restoring my purple Peugeot - especially going through the pain of recreating its splattered paint job that's gone missing from the chainstay and bottom bracket - and leaving it at the basement and staying off the mountains still, since it will never fit me exactly right. Seeing yours with a short modern stem and a nice wider bar makes me want to do the illogical and sentimental thing and bring the Black Rock back. Also, I found it funny that its paint job is so memorable that several people came across this video and sent it to me, knowing I would be happy to see another one of these. I don't know if I'll actually do it, I'm definitely not getting rid of that biopace weirdness though. Cheers.
FYI for people out there with no money you do not need to get a new crank nor do you need to get new gears in the back it'll be nice to have what they're doing all the time but not needed you merely just need to shorten the chain and take off all the gears that's it
Really cool, I have a Peugeot mountain valley ( purple paint, pretty similar to this one but w/o the paint splatter) and this got me hyped to restore it! I think I'm going for a commuter/comfy ride for this one tho, as it's a big size that fits me well and I have a hard time finding those sizes here in Spain. Keep on wheeling, love the vids :)
Yo! Peugeot gang! :D I literally build up the same frame (same paintjob too, loving it!) as a fixed gear, but also 700c + threadless fork conversion. And yes, finding a seatpost for those is a pain. Found mine in an odd parts bin of a local bike shop. Awesome video man!
I love old Peugeots! My first proper MTB's were a Peugeot Laser 15 then a Peugeot Anaconda.... The Anaconda was probably the same year as your bike here.
Great video, new to the channel. I'm actually in the process of building a Fixed gear road/city bike right now, and this video has actually helped me to figure out some problems I have
So jealous your chain lined up almost perfect Im trying to convert a specialized hard rock to single speed and I have a track hub that is just to narrow
Quick tip, when you're building a wheel, consider putting the spoke nipple on a spoke in reverse to then feed it the correct way through the rim and not lose it inside a double walled aluminum rim. I found it is much easier than fiddling it in by hand.
beautiful bike, solid, better than the fixied gear itself because a mtb gear like that is more resistant than a fixied gear and a wheel 26 of that size and that wide, that very practical wheel, even for those who do not like that thickness there are 1.50 and 1.10 inches in wheel 26, I love it,
That’s a rad bike ;-)) I drive an old(ish) Rocky Mountain Hammer transformed into a 2-gear kick shift coaster bike (with »magic gear«) … too scared to drive fixed in the woods ;-P … cheers !!! Great vid as always !!!
that's so dope, my daily ride is an old school atb/mtb and i thought about doing this. but i made it a ratty commuter that can't decide if it's a miniature road bike or a randonneur.
I wanna build a fixed gear belt drive bike. Would be expensive for a single gear drive train, but would be the ultimate short distance commuter imo. You never have to do any maintenance other than pumping tires and checking brakes like once a year or something.
Binging your videos, loving your work. I’m new to bike mechanics - could you tell me what the white paste is you apply to threads? just curious. cheers for the entertainment, relaxation and education.
The good thing about fixed gear bikes is that they're so clean and not requiring much parts love it 🤩
Completely agree man!
Always love to see old bikes getting the transformation. This bike is a beast!!
✌️
10:05 that focus shift is one of the most fun shots I've ever seen
Woww, you must be a photographer right?? I didn't notice it at first. Then i saw your comment. So cool man
Purple bikes are top tier! 🔥🔥🔥
I've never tried fixed gear mtb before, but as long as it's fixed gear I'll definitely like it.
Very happy to see you building this project!

Thank you! that sounds like a sweet project!!
Such a cool built! I've got a similar single speed and they really rip in that configuration, I find. I also love that you explain what you're doing. Awesome and inspiring job!
Stunned! Your builds amazes me every single time. This video really make wanna build something similar, it looks so rad!!
Thanks man, you definitely should!
YES ITS FINALLY TIME 🥳🤤 end result looks so rad👌
Thank you bro!! Time for a 26" fixed gear ride in Auckland🤘
I've just started riding 28c on my fixed gear bike and it is so much fun, This build looks like a joy to ride combining the Mtb and the fixed gear aspects props to my man!!
it sure is! had never ridden one hence why I was so excited to build it up! Definitely worth it!
I got this old Raleigh Nitro fram and wanted to restore and turn it into fixed, im gladly found this video, it gaves me so much hope
Awesome!
Thanks man! That sounds awesome, I have a Subrosa Malum too! ✌️
Heartfelt thanks for keeping the original paint finish and not ruining it with one of those nasty cheap powder-coating jobs. Really very nice!
Reminds me of the old thrasher fixed gears ! I’m totally doing this with my specialized hard rock I picked up
I was just thinking about rebuilding a 20 year old mtb i have to a freestyle fixie. This made me commit. Thanks!!!!
Awesome! would love to see a photo when you're done, sounds rad!
Super cool build. All makes sense. Want to try a similar build. Thanks
In the 90s most bike messengers had hardtail and rigid fork mountain bikes. Most were single speed, some with gears and some fixedgear. But steel mountain bikes were the preferred method for getting around the city. 26" wheels are just more nimble, faster and sturdy
where can we find more information about this? Im interested to know more about fixed gear mountain bikes in bike messenger culture.
I did one of these conversions on a vintage GT Karakoram about a year ago....I love it! Great Video!
Awesome! and thanks man, I appreciate that!

I had no idea they made fixed cogs for the disc brake mount. I gotta check those out.
bro the work that you've made with this bike is flawless, my respect... you're a master!
I'm at the 6:30 minute mark, and that's why I always strip down a bike, then decide how to build it. That thing is super cool!
This is awesome... Giving me inspiration for my old Peugeot
Fixed gear retro mtb wow! Definitely something new! I also like how you used zipties to attach the grips, maybe ill try that when i change mine, here people usually spray the insides of the grip with alcohol and slap it on the bars 💕🖤
It’s a little bit harder but it works well, hairspray also works good! 🧡
I use windex! It isn't sticky like hairspray, but it comes in a spray bottle so it's easier than alcohol!
really interesting build man! 🙌🙌
Thanks man!!
Such a rad frame to begin with. Also, that wheel build was top notch!
Thank you!!
Beautiful build mate, nice bike skills too!
Thank you!!
Che rapporto hai usato corona davanti e dietro
I was so hyped up like if you where building my bike. Wow man beautiful build
haha that’s awesome, thanks man!
such a beautiful build, I'm inspired to do a fixed 90s MTB too now
Thanks! You definitely should!
I wish I had the skills to do this. The bike looks so good!
this is the exact content im looking for, subbed
Thanks! I appreciate that!
I’ve been wanting to convert my oldie mtb into a fixed. Never knew those cogs existed! Now I can just shop for a 26in wheel with a disc brake hub. Wish me luck! And thanks for this post!
Awesome, glad I helped! Good luck👌
Sick mate. I did the same thing a month ango. Really enjoy riding it + it became my daily commuter
Thanks man! that's wicked, I might be tempted to ride this daily too!
love the couple of paint splatters on the steerer tube
yeah its interesting, makes you wonder how they did the paint jobs back then
@@waveywheelies surely just a bloke in a warehouse with a spray gun lmao
I've got a very similar semi-retired early-90s Peugeot mtb (a purple Terrifik!) and this has given me an idea for a little project.......😁
Haha awesome! Would love to see it
i just love this! people needs to save the old frames more !
Wow...that's a fun bike..I want to ride this one well done, not to over the top, just fun
Thank you!
Looks super fun! I love me a classic MTB conversion!
it is! love retro mtbs!

What an awesome story. You should definitely bring the Black Rock back!! Send me a photo if you do, would love to see it!🙂
Top notch bike and video work as always! The bike itself looks so fun to ride
Thank you! it sure is!
Great build, nice to watch 👩🏼🔧
Thanks!!
hey very cool! im thinkin in turn my 26'' in a fixed gear and this video was what i needed
Ahaha the wheel build end shot, so clean man!
Thanks man!!
FYI for people out there with no money you do not need to get a new crank nor do you need to get new gears in the back it'll be nice to have what they're doing all the time but not needed you merely just need to shorten the chain and take off all the gears that's it
I have a 2x7 gravel bike that i want to turn into a fixie/single speed. I want to use the the largest front gear and the smallest rear gear.

Currently got a GT Karakoram and this video makes me want to switch it to single speed !!
Man that was a very good lesson! the bike looks really dope. the best vibes from Colombia
thanks man! 🙏✨
Yo! Peugeot gang! :D

Yo thanks man!! Thats awesome, would love to see some pictures!
Man great build havent seen that cog in the disc brake mount conversion very creative given me a great idea ...bike is sick. !
Thanks man! glad you got some inspiration out of it, that makes me super stoked to hear that!
15:04 cool tip with the zip ties to get the grips on.
I saw gcn shim "standard" a seat post to make it fit a Peugeot frame.
That is basically what som mechanics did on tour de France.
I love old Peugeots! My first proper MTB's were a Peugeot Laser 15 then a Peugeot Anaconda.... The Anaconda was probably the same year as your bike here.
Awesome! Peugeots are wicked bikes
I did a similar conversion and ended up running a 127.7mm square taper spindle! I never knew they made them that wide in 68mm shells till then lmao
haha awesome!
Your build always inspire me
thanks 🙂
aahh the wavey coffee break session, namaste!
That is a sick build my dude
Thank you bro!!
just finished buildng a 90s peugout aspin fixie, thanks for the inspiration
Nice man! No worries at all, thanks for the support🙌
Great video, new to the channel. I'm actually in the process of building a Fixed gear road/city bike right now, and this video has actually helped me to figure out some problems I have
Awesome to hear that! What frame have you got?
@@waveywheelies It some old frame that I don't the name of, but it's probably a german (steel) frame. I think it's from someone with last name Biria
you even built your own wheels i think that's so cool
So jealous your chain lined up almost perfect Im trying to convert a specialized hard rock to single speed and I have a track hub that is just to narrow
Thats a lovely beast!Another old 'un saved:)
Thanks!!
This is probably one of my favorite builds. Super unique. This would be a perfect fixie for people who love big wheels.
Thank you! and yeah definitely, super fun riding fixed with big tyres!
So nice! Wanna get a fixed gear rn!
I wanted to do that for years too!
Looks like a polo bike from 2010
You should! They are so much fun
I have literally wanted to do this exact thing for about a year now. I want a fat tire fixie so bad.
Do it! they are super fun

Yeah that's a really good tip, I do that on deeper rims 👍
Fixed gear bikes I think took years off my knees....looks fun though!
So sick! Klunklocross
Thanks!🤘
this was the last push I needed to go looking for an old hardtail MTB
Awesome, have you picked anything up yet?
@@waveywheelies I copped a '93 Liyang 550AT
yessss, this is a fresh build
That bike is a beastt!!!
19:45 cameraman on point af
Solid build as always 🔥

hahah! thanks man! there's always room for another

Great vid as always !!!
Thank you!! that sounds like an awesome set up!
OMG, so beautyfull!!! Congrats bro!!!
Thanks bro!
Great job mate, very neat!
Thanks man!
YEAAAAAHHHHH!!!! Another conversion video hell yeah 🙌
❤️
ambisaw talaguhh
Wow thanks for the inspiration man!
No worries! Thanks for watching :)
Awesome conversion bro! Lets finish my GT gold Palomar commuter and I'll maybe do a fixed mtb.
An old Peugeot costs around 20 bucks in France lol.
Thanks bro! that sounds awesome, and 20 bucks! that's a bargain!
With that stearer tube you can just use a 1' threadless headset and put a shim so you can use any 1-1/8 stem
that's so dope, my daily ride is an old school atb/mtb and i thought about doing this. but i made it a ratty commuter that can't decide if it's a miniature road bike or a randonneur.

Yeah that would be perfect, I’ve also been thinking about belt drives recently! Definitely one to try out on fixed
Классный байк ,можно сказать дал вторую жизнь.
Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching🙂
dope build
thanks!
Ahahah the zip-tie trick! Use that every time!
Haha awesome!
Agree, ideally I would have a bigger cog too.
Thats the plan!
You got the vintage Peugeot hookup
For 130/135mm stuff halo sell an axle for their hubs for about £15 makes for a good budget option
Good to know! Thanks!

there's always a good excuse to mount a Sugino 75 crankset...you just gave me another one I can use (don't have the correct length BB)
Haha! These are Sugino Messenger RD2's btw :)
Thanks bruh👍
Beautiful
