@@toastyrides I really need to get some organization like that going in my mess, I might actually start getting some more stuff done, thanx for the inspiration !!
@@toastyrides you would laugh if you saw the bike mess here, I am in northern California, San Francisco Bay area and bikes are very plentiful here at yard sales, flea markets and thrift stores, and I am a bike addict, and hoarder haa, last year I started buying 20" Specialized hotrocks about 6 months before christmas, I never had time to get them ready for the Christmas rush so I think I have like 10 of them here, along with a mountain of other bikes, getting organized like your place there makes working on and restoring bikes a joy !
I think converting a tandem into a mobile repair shop would be fun too, going to the train stations and bike trails and wrenching out in the open would be alot of fun
Nice build, wanna do same, old MTB 26 single speed + front bike rack and use for commuting to work ;-) But i dont know Joe gear ratio choose. Nice builds again man !
That sounds great! If you have a geared bike then you can get a rough idea. Count the teeth of a gear you use the most, then put it into a gear ratio calculator online to find similar ratios 👍 Thanks heaps! 🤙
Thank you! 🙌 I’m about 6’4, I make most bikes look small it seems! The newest video is a 700c XL GT Force and at one point (in the start of the video) I get on the bike and you can almost see it shrink 😅😵💫
How do you know the frame is chromoly? I got a giant boulder from about the same period, the frame looks almost identical except it use claw derailleur so no derailleur mount on dropout.
I think this had a sticker somewhere, but you can also tell by weight after having a few steel bikes. Sometimes you can tap the frame and hear the resonance of thinner tubes, too. Thin doesn’t necessarily equal good, but can be a sign of higher quality steel. My Kona Lava Dome has a higher/tinnier tap compared to the Giant, that sounds more dull/deep, for example.
@@toastyrides nice! I am restoring one exactly like this. Unfortunately much more destroyed. I'm going to do a rat style. I even saw your tip for using rust converter in another video and then coat, in the affected sections, after properly sanitized and released from rust. We'll see, maybe one day I'll make a video, then I'll let you know. I still need to find many original pieces, or accept and use similar pieces from the same era at least (good as the original, of course), because the pieces that came are not great things. Best regards and keep doing this great job saving this nice bikes. 90's MTB are my favorites.
Not this frame, from memory. It was just a 7 speed freewheel, it may have been a couple mm off. The first frame this wheel went into was coldset, used the long as bolt and a few nuts method 👍
Hi there! Zach Gallardo has a good video about why people love fixed gear bikes. As for why no rear brake, it’s not needed with fixed gears as you can slow and skid with your legs. The front brake is just there for emergencies or when I feel like using it. Here’s Zachs video! Check it out 🤙 ua-cam.com/video/l1cxxqv6Nf0/v-deo.html
Steel chromoly frames are the second most durable material for bicycle frames, only after titanium. Chromoly frames will last for many decades. All of these 90s chromoly frames are workings perfectly well. Unless the frame had a very serious impact durability isn't a concern, I have 4 bikes all built on 90s chromoly frames
Sorry comments were off 😆 sorted now!
Love this kind of bmx vibe build! Recently did one with low moto bars & classic blocky GT stem. 1x7 with a vintage shimano in rear. Thx f/posting 🚲
I am a simple man, I see a fixed gear and hit the like button.
Nice job. I like that you Left the original paint. The original paint on a bike always adds character.
Thanks! Yeah especially when it has a unique look to it, like this 👌
The new logo still cracks me up 😂 I love it! ❤️
you can use a 1 inch inner tube piece to seal the lower headset . install it when you put the fork. seals it completely.
It's gorgeous great job I wish I had the tools to go that in depth on a bike anyway it's a sick ride
I recommend thread locker on the drive side of the bottom bracket.
I will say the PT cable cutters are totally worth it.
Good to know, these are slowly on their way out. I’ll make a note 👍
A few wheelies would have been nice with this bike 😉
I love your work 👍
Shop is looking great !!
Cheers mate! It gets a bit of a mess but really user friendly and loving it 👍

@@davidwhocares3293 it’s definitely worth it 👌 cheers mate! Thanks for the good vibes 🤙

Beautiful build, MTB to fixie.. Wish I can do that. 👍👍👍
Cleaned up nice af, bro
Cheers heaps! 🤙 love the purple fireworks paintjob. Good score for $20, eh!

Turned out nice👍🏾
when i see bmx being thrown away i always take the handle bar....i put them on my mountain bike and even road bikes LOL
such a cool build
hi.mate ,what bars did you use.and.did you use a qukl stem adapter?max Liverpool England 😎
Trying to do the same rot now. Can you recommend a set of bars similar to yours but not expensive? Lol thanks
Sweet! Haha these are pitbike handlebars, 7/8 or 22.2 bars fit bmx stems. They come in heaps of sizes and angles 👌
@@toastyrides haha use what you have! I like the conversion even more now. Thanks
blue rug shirt ‼︎ 😁👍✨
Do you remember what hub that is and what brand cog you used? Im trying to do the same with my 26mtb
Hello. Thanks for showing your work and nice project. Could you tell me please how is the wide and high the BMX handlebar which you used to this bike?
Hi there, I no longer have these bars so can’t say for sure
With gears, it would be even better. In my opinion.
*clicks on fixed gear video*
Thank u
No worries mate! 🤙
will the 57 be coming back in stock?
So kind of like a tracklacross?
I suppose, yeah! But not with the price tag haha. Probably more tyre clearance, but smaller wheel diameter!
You make realy nice builds! You are a big dude arent you kind of 6 foot? The 26 look very small.

@@toastyrides I see! Than you are a candidate for these 36er 😄
Did you use the disck socket for the gear?
Would tou ve able to fit a 27r in these bikes?
very cool
Cheers! 👍

Really nice job. I love the way you see a bicycle rebuild ! Same vision as us, in our youtube channel "le dimanche on bricole" 😁
Cheers mate! Love the vibe of these 👌❤️
Nice
Good luck up a mountain with that gear system lol

You’d be surprised, fixed gear is quite efficient uphill. But this ratio isn’t aimed at off-road riding as I explained 🤙
This.i like it really
Nice job. Did you know the year of this bike? Best regards from Brasil.
Thanks! I don’t know for sure, but I think it’s around a 1992 👍

somebody installed dropped bar on mountain bike and called it gravel bike......what would be a good name for a mountain bike with bmx handle bar?
Haha hmm, 26bmx? Big kids bmx? 🤔😂
This video was messed up no audio for about half of it
Did you have to coldset the frame?

i miss te size of wheel, sombody view?
26” wheels 🤙
Why no brakes at the back? Why the does anyone want the pedals to follow while rolling?

I agree, Mikey! 👌 a huge purple chainring would be awesome
what bars are those?
Hey mate, I’ve got a link in my newest video’s description to these bars 🤙
@@toastyrides thanks bro 🙏
