Love a scandi ground knife and it having a cross bar lock design is awesome, truly ambidextrous and a very strong lock up will make it a great outdoors knife. There are Scandi folders out there but not a ton of them and if this was in 14C28N and priced like Vosteed usually does I'll be all over it. Scandi grinds excel at removing a large amount of material at a time which I love for carving and the handle looks fairly comfortable in different grips, a contoured scale would be one improvement that I'd like to see personally and like you said maybe a bit wider on the blade and handle. Thanks for the great vid Jerad and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable.

Vosteed is doing amazing. A while ago I bought the top three knives I wanted all at once and then went into knife buying retirement. A little after my retirement began vosteed made the Racoon and I decided that for that design at that price I'd buy ONE last knife, and I absolutely love it. Now they make this, and I haven't watched this whole video yet, or heard the price, but based on design alone I'm extremely tempted to get this knife as well.

@@BrandonGavin_EDC it's tough to stop, but I recently changed jobs from tradesman, where I carried 2 knives and used them multiple times a day, to elementary school IA where I don't touch a knife 5 days a week. It's not just that I don't need them, I'm not even allowed to carry one. Thought that would make it easier, and it would have but the Racoon really was my exact style for a surprisingly good price. My interest is shifting from folders for work to fixed blades for camping where I'll still be able to use them.

@@BrandonGavin_EDC It's really hard. But I spent the last six years acquiring knives, spent quite a bit of money, and I just can't afford to be buying new ones. Right now I'm going into selling mode so I can free up some cash so I can pickup some new ones. I have roughly 200 to choose from but it's still hard for me to let any of them go.

LOVE a Scandi grind. Would love to see the dimension changes you mentioned; for me, a Scandi might be in a situation where I want to get a rrrrrreal grip on it, so that handle, yeah, oughta be full-size. I dig it. Thanks for the look, Jerad! 👊

I gotta say it... I have over 60 knives in my collection. I just got my new Vosteed Grind. This is absolutely the best knife in my collection. The action is perfect. The blade is absolutely the best shape and grind for me. The axis lock is perfectly tensioned. The plunge grind is absolutely perfect. I will probly quit buying knives now. Your nitpicking notwithstanding, I finally have the perfect EDC.

From a folding bushcraft knife stadpoint the blade is good as it shouldn´t be to wide because it would not be optimal for finner carving, Just take a look at the discontinued EKA M6310 it had 14C27 back in the days with a true Scandi and the blade was even less wide then the Vosteed just because of this reason to be a really versitile knife for bushcrafting and the M6310 was used by large of the Swedish military during the 1980s.

Wow very cool. Actually I kinda like that round shiny look to the crossbar lever. Yeah make the knife profile a little taller maybe, but please don’t make it longer. It's a good length right there.
If I had one complaint about my Thunderbird it's that the factory edge was a little mediocre, so This, is pretty ambitious of Vosteed. Love what they're doing, mixing it up.
I'd like them to somehow contour the handle in a little more interesting/distinctive yet still ergonomic way. Not to make it too fat or oddly shaped in the pocket though.

the clip screws on bugout protrude and snag my pocket and it took me a year to hone my 940 into a scandi grind. both only have partial liners and i had to buy an aftermarket handle and pocket clip for my bugout. 14c28n has been one of my favorite steels for a long time. benchmade has produced the 940 in only s30v steel for twenty years and they owned that lock all of that time and in 2019 were still charging $200 for a knife which can’t even cut. i would say your knife is a better option. i like narrow blades like that i would compare this to a 940. my favorite blade shape is a traditional pen knife but i could rant about it. if it was a wide blade then i would want a narrow handle, i think it’s fine the way it is.

I just hope they ship them once they drop. I ordered a Raccoon two weeks ago and it still hasn't shipped. I've gotten emails explaining the backlog, but I'm wondering if they oversold them or something. 2 weeks seems a bit much to just be behind on shipping due to volume.

@Brandon_The Crow the spring is one thing, and not all manufacturers use the same spring. The structure strength of the axis lock mainly depends on the thickness of the steel inserts and the diameter of the axis bar, while the strength of the button lock comes from the contact area between the plunge and the lock face on the blade. There is definitely a micro bevel on there. It is small, but if I can see it in your video, than under my microscope, I’m sure it’s very visible… true scandi it is not

NO THERES ACTUALLY NOT YOUR JUST PROBABLY NOTICING EFFECTS FROM THE STONES ETC.. THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO MICRO BEVEL I CHECKED

@@NeevesKnives all caps eh... well I clearly saw one, but the only way to know for sure is for you to actually give us a good solid look at the blade either under a microscope, or actually keep the darn thing in view for more than a frame or two... you spend too much time flicking and moving it around... I still believe that it has a small one though

@@NeevesKnives do you have your caps key stuck??? It very rare to have a true scandi on a factory knife, and if you did mess with the true scandi, you should have addressed that at one point in the video

@@shawnpepin7890 YES IT IS STUCK LOL, AND IVE HAD MANY TRUE SCANDI GRINDS, IVE EVEN SHARPENED THEM MANY TIMES WHICH IS WHY I EXPLAINED HOW TO, BUT IF YOU WANT TO ARGUE THAT THERES A MICRO BEVEL SO SMALL THAT WE HAVE TO DEBATE ABOUT IT THATS FINE, IN MANY CASES THAT CAN BE AN EVEN BETTER SCANDI, IT WOULD BE TOUGHER, BUT JUST AS SLICEY, IT COULD HELP STABILIZE THE APEX. Had to stop less than half way through the video because I got sick of hearing you talk all over the place. How about reviewing the knife and then presenting a concise set of “suggestions” for improvements. It seems as if you like the knife but really want them to change everything about it. Doesn’t make much sense.
