Do you define "acre" as the area of ground occupied by the entire patch of plants or by the area of bands of rows of plants. For example, a blackberry patch of 200 ft rows with 12 ft spacing between row centers that has 50 rows would occupy about 118,000 sq ft or 2.7 acres, whereas an acre defined by the bands of rows 200 ft long and a planted row width of 6 ft would occupy 50 bands of 200 ft by 8 ft or about 1.4 acres. If I use "banded acre" versus total acre calculations I will use almost twice as much fertilizer per plant.

We calculate our fertility rates based off of ground "under plastic" or the actual space in-row. So a 5' wide bed that is 100' long is 500 sq ft or 0.011 of an acre.

What are you using for fertilizer in your vertagate process. Is like a miracle grow typestuff ,
Question no. 2. If your familiar with the grow tablets that various nursery places they are more of a time release thing they saw versus a rapid realease like miracle grow , or would i better off to scatter my fert. In the mulch netween the plants and how close to the root crown , and just water it in , i admit iam a bit uninformed. Thanx in advance

Hi Steve, we typically use a fertilizer that will dissolve in water and run it through the drip irrigation system. So something similar to miracle grow in that regard. If you are not able to inject the fertilizer in this way it would be better to scatter the fertilizer around the base of the plant and water in. The fertilizer should be placed at least 10-12 inches from the crown. Hope this helps!
