Thank you for this presentation we are looking into setting up this system this year and with covid our pick TN conference got cancelled so this is a huge help because I had alot of questions about this system before we set it up next year and this answers most of them thanks

Thanks for the information, this is very helpful. Perhaps I missed it, but with all things being equal, is there an estimated material cost per foot to install an RCA trellis system? Thank you.

Thanks for the inquiry. Lots of qualifiers to consider to address your question; and farmers generally find ways to "build it better and cheaper". The primary supplier of RCA trellis arm assemblies is Trellis Growing Systems/Ibex Growing Systems of Ft. Wayne, IN. Check out their website for pricing information for a "package deal" that includes trellis arm assemblies, HT wire and hardware, irrigation, weed barrier fabric, row cover, plants, training supplies, and required tools.

Would this system also work for raspberries? They seem to have a very similar growing pattern to blackberries

Dear jorian1 107 The RCA trellis system was developed with certain blackberry cultivars in mind; ie they produce several strong primocanes that are limber enough to train horizontally, and these primocanes produce sufficient laterals to fill the trellis. This type of system might work with black raspberry. I don't think this approach would work well with red raspberries, as the primocanes don't freely produce laterals.

Also, keep in mind that thornlessness is desired with plants trained to the RCA trellis. Even the minor thorns found on raspberry would be an annoyance.
