    Hi Vladimir, nice tutorial. However, I do want to point out that the adjustment of the horizontal distance at 7:36 is not actually in degrees, but rather a movement along the circumference in millimetres. But I totally understand why you could have made that error. At 2:10, when you randomly drew the sketch circle, the diameter was about 118 mm, which resulted in a circle with a diameter of about 370 mm, which is very close to 360. What an amazing coincidence! This gave the illusion of the feature shifting a quarter of the way at 90 and halfway at 180. I have verified this on larger cylinders as well.

      @DesktopMakes  4 роки тому

      Aah...Thanks for the correction Fusion 360 School. Good to know. Yes that was quite the coincidence.

    The new feature is good and I can see myself using it with not just type but with shapes and patterns but it will not keep me from importing most of my type due to the rudimentary type tools. My work requires precision typographical control and that hasn't changed. Hint: Create a type box that is RingDia x pi long and you always know where your overlap is.

    Hi Vlad, Yeah I was very excited to see this the other day and played around with it immediately too. I knew you'd make a video on it. Great work.
    When you got the error with the longer text, adding an angle looks like it would have wrapped it in a spiral, haven't tested it yet though. I have tried it now and it works perfectly.
    Looking forward to whatever Fusion 360 have coming with the sketch environment too.

    Hi Vladimir, I wonder if you can help me with this problem. Previously if i started a sketch and click on any face the work plane would turn flat and face the screen as you did with this video. But now if i choose any face the screen remains as it was and i have to turn it myself to be facing the front + i get this small planes with a circle where you can rotate it to give it a angle. I don't know if i'm making any sense or explaining it well, but if i am what settings have been changed as my son was drawing something and i think he as changed whatever because he uses Inventor. Many thanks and regards. Tony. By the way your videos are very good and very clear. Thank you so much.

    Any issues 3D printing those rings? It seems like a number of letters have pieces that would be overhangs, especially the enclosed portions of closed letters (A, B, D, etc.), at least if you printed each ring with one of the flat surfaces on the bed.

    • @DesktopMakes

  • @4funrc11

    Thx. 👍 So "Emboss" by default 'combines' the text to the existing body.
    And if you'd like to separate the body from the text? Hmm, I'll have to see what's possible. lol 😃

    • @DesktopMakes

      Perhaps combining the new emboss tool with the old sheet metal unfolding trick would work?

    • @hpekristiansen
      @hpekristiansen 4 роки тому +1

      @@JD2jr. The old method for double curved surface was to unfold twice and then do an extrude before refolding twice(the extrude was done on a flat surface). You can do this: fold once, emboss, refold once. The problem now is that the refold will distort the emboss. Conclusion: The emboss will only help with distortion in one direction. Could be used for text around a torus, but offers minimal better result than the old method at minimal less effort.
