      @@TheChiptide I think remnant is fun, and overtime it’s less ghost related and more technological horror explorative (see: Mimic) but it absolutely took a lot of time to get to that point. and while into the pit itself is one big remnant thing that’s hard to explain (each ball in the pit being a person who died due to Eleanor basically creating a pocket dimension, which is insane) the game doesn’t try to… explain that, whatsoever. you give a fun explanation to that

    I love psychology, so I love this theory! But,as a theorist,I should point out that the game shows the past changing the future. We take a mallet off a machine,it's head is gone in the future. We put a paper plate pal on the wall,it's there in the future. Time travel rat. And the doors are broken in the past, and they're just gone in the future. This implies someone removed them between the past and the present, and Jeff doesn't say a thing about the doors being gone.
    As an explanation for the books, though,I'd say it's dead on.

    • @TheChiptide
      @TheChiptide  5 місяців тому +24

      Yeah, it seems to me like the original author intended for it to be all in Oswald's head (or at least purposely left the possibility open), while the makers of the game interpreted it much more literally

    I can see the idea of the ball pit possibility being affected by Oswalds mind, especially when the other animatronics only start coming after when he gets the book from Gabriella. But considering how they see the suit at the end of the story and the Epilogues using the ball bit as a way to revisit memories, even going to other buildings that were apparently before Jeff’s (But after Freddy’s closed) Theirs definitely some truths to the things that happened with it

    Well it's implied in the book that the agony inside the ball pit was calling Oswald to find a pit. The pit was trying to manipulate all scenarios so he could stay in the pit and get killed by the yellow rabbit. That's why when he said he didn't have any tokens and out of nowhere he had tokens just to keep him. And the reason why pit Bonnie looks so grotesque is what they think that William looked like before they died. And it's not really time travel it's just agony memories of all the victims and then later on we learn that the ball pit is basically a well of souls in agonizing pain.

    I would love the disociative theory if it wasn't for a little detail: in the game some changes that you make in the past remain in the present. One good example is the door that Pitbonnie smashes while chasing Oswald, after he climbs outside the ball pit he realizes that the same door in Jeff's is now gone, and I think you can ask Jeff what happened and he'll simply reply "what door?" Like it was never there before.

    That ending part where they "see" the animatronic, it's only his dad and the cat. The dad could have just been an illusion during that time frame, oswald may have thought the cat also suspected (humans tend to put our emotions into our animals, even when they don't feel the same). The dad could have also been playing into it, taking note of how his son was acting in recent times and "played" along to reconcile with him in some capacity.

    I do wonder how this changes if we looked at Oswald being ND/having AuDHD?
    - The sensory intensity is dialed to 11
    - Having been bullied for so long (let me just phrase it as what it is; he is being harassed, tormented, put through hell by his peers on a daily basis at school, with little to no escape)
    - Dealing with his new/dual reality in a very practical manner; being able to figure out a solution to a situation is to go back and get an item, even if it means facing the yellow rabbit again.
    - Everyone thinks he's just crazy/having a day dream (not only dismissing him/what hes saying, but ridicule him for it)
    When something is presented as "just a dream", its with the connocation that its not anything to worry about after you wake up/its trivial.
    Its a conditional explanation; that it ends and fades away once you wake up.
    But for some NDs, they simply do not have an erasable whiteboard for dreams.
    How do we help Oswald in this case;
    As you said, gaining new friends who can support him, show him that he can be brave for others, if not for himself.
    And when he succeds, the monster tries once again to attack, but are caught on the ropes of the pit. (Nice Tarzan reference by the way)
    Oswald got his dad out of there, and the monster is defeated.
    He'll most likely have these memories and trauma with him for the rest of his life, but by giving him the support thats right for him (and that he wants, at his own pace); he may expand on the positive sides of his life, gaining the strength and support to fight Pit Trap should it ever come back.

    I honestly WISH this was what happened in the story. I'm one of those few people who actually really loves psychological horror in the sense of "none of it was real, his psyche was broken", yknow granted it's actually well written and there are clues along the way that something is off. It'd also totally distinguish the book from the games' canon so we weren't debating over whether ghost magic can make entire living creatures out of Agony and why a ghost magic rabbit mimicking a serial killer would replace a kid's dad for fun.
    It also makes sense considering this is one of the only Frights that ends very happily; there was never actually a physical threat and Oz overcoming his mental struggles "killed" the evil and "brought back" his dad, who never left

  • @ciboria1
    @ciboria1 5 місяців тому

    I think that the main issue I have with this theory, comes down to the phrasing from the psychological discipline vs the intensity Oswald [the one suffering from them] experiences.
    Dissociative Fantasy is perhaps the simplest explanation, but its connotation are infantalizing
    (Which is a big problem in the field of psycology when it comes to accurately portraying/explaining phenomenons like the ball pit)
    From the second he emerges from the ball pit, Oswald is floodes with sensory overload from everything around him thats now changed.
    He has to figure out what the hell is going on, and is critical of his surroundings/struggle wirh coming to terms with the new reality he finds himself in.
    (Yes, it becomes an escape from his isolated normality, but everything he experiendes while being in 1985, is as real as outside of it.)
    Then as the positive interactions happens, Oswald finally gets a few good memories and experiences from being there.
    But, as soon as Pit Trap emerges, Oswald's "fantasy" is nothing short of a hellish nightmare that not only takes away the fun and safety of the place, but also follows him out of the pit.
    From the moment Pit Trap emerges from the Pit, and kidnapping his dad, Oswald does everything he can to save his dad from the monster.
    So not only has his new safe space been breached, but its spreading to every other part of his day-to-day.
    For Oswald, this isnt a dream. This is the worst nightmare he's ever had, and it just wont stop. No one seems to take him seriously, so it is up to him to find a way to fix this.
    Is it technically a fantasy? Yes, or at least for everyone else it looks that way.
    Does it feel like a dream?
    It operates on Dream Logic; suddenly you have the coins you wanted/needed
    But until you wake up, and have the support to ground yourself; what you life through *IS* real.
    TLDR;
    I agree that it is perhaps technically a dream, but we still need to view it from his POV; being tormented by a monster that causes an extreme amount of trauma in such a short time.
    And for those who are ND (+ the environments he suffers from); the things he experiences in the pit, gives him PTSD. Whether or not it is "actually" happening is irrelevant. Because he has been chased by this child-killing monster, and that doesn’t change until he finds a way to rescue his dad and defeat this thing.
    (Sorry for the long TLDR)

    As someone with DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder, formerly Multiple Personality Disorder) and MADD (Maladaptive Daydreaming Disorder), I wanted to jump in with some corrections and additions about dissociative disorders. Dissociation is not specifically linked to trauma by itself. Everyone dissociates to some degree, often called „zoning out”. Some people just dissociate so much it impairs life and becomes a disability or disorder. 75% of the population have experienced derealization/depersonalitzation, forms of dissociation, in their life and many people often don’t know that’s what they are experiencing/have experienced. What you are describing in your theory it sounds more like MADD than DID, which are very different but can have some overlap. „Dissociative fantasies” as you call them and MADD can both include themes of trauma peeking through to these „stories” people make up, just like how kids with trauma will act out their trauma in play to process it (Bluey episode Copycat shows this well). Trauma is not confirmed scientifically to be the cause of dissociation and DID, because it is obviously unethical to test this. Dissociative fantasies doesn’t inherently change to represent outer experiences, the example you used of a castle when feeling scared for example, oftentimes the fantasies can look like anything or represent anything, or just simply be a secondary inner place to retreat too. Dissociative fantasies can feel very real. Dissociative disorders are not considered *that* rare, 1.5% may sound like a small amount but that is a lot of people and remember it only accounts for diagnosed cases of DID and doesn’t include any other dissociative disorder. Neurodivergence, which has high rates of comorbid conditions or can often the direct cause of dissociation (example, ptsd) is estimated at 15-20% of the population. That is around the same amount of the population estimated to have intersex variation, has red hair or green eyes. I am impressed with the amount of research done on dissociative disorders and dissociation though, as people often just see dissociative disorders, DID and OSDD1 specifically, as scifi, creepy or frame the narrative in a stigmatising way.

Freddy's exists within the books, its an actual place with continuity stretching across multiple stories and if this was his dream everything in every other story connected to this one would have to also be his dream not anyone else's dream and if it is someone else's dream in which Freddy's exists that implies either HE made freddy's real or that it was always real.

    Personally I view the book version as being canon to the book universe, and the game version is canon to the main game timeline

    UA-camr HyperDroid claims to have solved the Foxy grid. Could you check that out?

      HyperDroid's solution is pretty good, but I'm actually waiting on another smaller UA-camr to make a video on a solution that I think is better. A couple months ago I got an email with literally the most air tight solution I've ever seen that perfectly explains both the tally marks and the foxy grid, and got a name that nobody has suggested yet, but makes a lot of sense in hindsight. The kid who sent it to me asked that I not share it with anyone yet because he wanted to make his own video on it, but here we are 2 months later and he hasn't spoken a word of it! So I'm 99% sure I know the name of the Crying Child, but I can't tell anyone!

      @@TheChiptide Talk about suspenseful… I’m eagerly anticipating the video! If it’s as airtight as you think it is I could not be more excited lol

    Ok then in a world where people are perfectly willing to rip out their teeth for a science project them not believing a kid when he says his dad is acting strange is perfectly normal and not suspect at all toward the supernatural within the setting…
