  • This video talks about the great start to the season that the Vancouver Canucks have had. The Canucks were a very disappointing team last year and ended up firing their coach and trading their captain Bo Horvat mid season. Under head coach Rick Tocchet and new captain Quinn Hughes this Vancouver team has been completely different and are in my opinion, the biggest surprise of the 2023-24 NHL season!

As a Kings fan i have said for a couple years that the canucks should be better. Now they are looking like i expected when seeing the lineup

Dunno how anyone looked at the core we had and didn’t know right away last year that something wasn’t right. Miller, petterson down the middle, hughes on D and Demko being a world class goalie.. i’d say them missing the playoffs was the suprise. With the moves that the organization made, they’re right where they should be.

Goal tending was a big issue as well as not a complete D core but the pieces of the puzzle are falling in to place now.

Yeah Demko getting injured and having an off season was the main issue along with sub par defence. It's not much of a surprise especially with added defence and Demko playing how we know he can.

Well, they WERE a big surprise... In their last ten games they've been a .500 team. However, their goal differential hasn't really changed during that time, and I guess that's a good sign. Turns out Soucy and Suter may have been bigger pieces to the puzzle than they appeared to be. Curious to see what that looks like when they return. So many variables have changed in the past two seasons to make this team better, and it's working. I'm feeling tentative about them lately but then pretty much ALL the teams that had hot starts have had some fallout.
2:36 Remember when Rutherford said, "if everything goes right..." lol. Man was he ever right about that.
3:27 For all the issues I've heard about Zed, consistency and decision making being the two that come up, so far all of the talking heads have had nothing but praise for this trade and I get the feeling our coaching staff are going to sharpen his game to a lethal point. He loves to smoke other players and the Canucks have needed that level of fear in their own zone for years. Nothing like opposing players entering the O zone with their heads on a swivel.

Agree, in comes Zadorov to hopefully fill that "loosing" gap.

If Canucks win a cup, I can see a movie about the team in the future. What ranked 21st in September? Now today 2nd in the league

Alvin and Co has nothing but wins in the trade and draft department. It's very refreshing to see that our prospect pool isn't at the bottom and when trades happen I dont have to go augh what has that dunce done this time?

Not really a surprise if you check their record with tocchet last year

Not necessarily. Boudreau had the same kind of start when he came in didn't he? The real difference is the Canucks didn't suck for the first 10-15 games of the season. The last couple of years we had terrible starts and spent the whole season playing catch-up not unlike the Oilers this year. The Canucks were 8-17 through their first 25 games last year.

@@troubleondemand7703Exactly, We had the best start in franchise history this season, so even though they "slumped" down to 5-5-0, they're still sitting in a good spot, Allvin has been a huge upgrade over Dim Jim.
