I think code lyoko could use a remake all they need to do is keep the 2d 3d animation style and tighten up the script a bit and give William the respect he deserves
The only good thing Evolution gave us is the fact that the actors that played Ulrich and Yumi slept together during filming, and were even spotted asleep one morning by the actor that played William.
I refuse to acknowledge evolution is cannon in anyway, as far as I'm concerned the series ended with the gang shutting down the supercomputer after destroying Xana. As much as I would like a proper continuation one day, Evolution is not it.
My halfway point is... it happened, but _not in the show's Alpha Timeline._ When Franz and Xana both blew up at the end of the original, the blast of energy was so great that it _fractured the future into several timelines,_ all existing simultaniously and yet separate. Mutually exclusive continuations (Evolution itself, the Code Total Drama Reality crossover fic, the IFSCL fangame, etc) all simultaniously exist within the same multiverse, but are isolated both from each other and from the Alpha Timeline of the original series. - In the timeline that "actually" happened, Xana is dead and gone, end of file. - But occuring parallel to that, Xana came back somehow and teamed up with Mr Grudgelord from the original Project Carthage team. - Occuring parallel to _that,_ Xana faked his death, stowed away on the world's first quantum computing laptop with a backup copy of the entire thing of Lyoko, and returned for revenge two years later just as Total Drama began a new season in a certain Parisian suburb. - And occuring parallel to _all_ of them, Xana never died but the kids somehow found a way to rematerialize Franz, who helped them fight all the way to 13 April 2010, where Xana went endgame and Franz told Jeremie to essentially Scratch the entime timeline all the way back to 9 October 2003 while sending his memories back in time to partially control his past self. It's essentially _Jeremie Belpois: Into the Lyoko-Verse._

It takes place two years after the main CL story (discounting Evo, but later integrating its plot points into the story), and at some point after World Tour, as a new season of the in-universe reality show taking place in France.
I haven’t lost hope, I don’t think that Code Lyoko is gone forever. I think it’s gonna return one day. It just needs a good studio that will it the time, writing and money it deserves. Thousands of people as well as I have wrote a sequel season script to the series. So the fan support is there here :)
Honestly I thought we were going to get something after they put Code Lyoko on Netflix. I wonder if that was a way to gauge how popular the show is and if a reboot is financially worth it?
Laura Gauthier Is the CLE version of Lila Rossi from Miraculous Ladybug. Causing trouble for our main cast, making Aelita have jealousy that's bad for her look (Like Marinette) .
if someone wanted to come back and make something out of the show i think its possible. While evolution did fail in being something great I belive that it does leave enough for something to still come from it. While it would be a wierd thing to see them switch from 2d to live action and back it would probably be for the best. If they decided to make a 2d continuation that could be something more of a small project to see how people would feel about it, I could see it doing well
Oh Boy This Look Their are elements that I did enjoy of this serise, I give the actress who play Aelita for really get into character by wearing a pink hair wig and making her eyebrows pink, and the 3D animation was really good. Just The concept was bad and wasn't gonna enjoy by the fanbase. Plus, they didn't have no USA network to distribute it which was another bad mistake. Also, not having the English VA involved was very stupid.
There’s currently an ongoing 2d/3d fanmade continuation of the og code lyoko that diverges from evolution. It’s uploaded on a channel called “Code Lyoko Beyond” and is made by a very small team of fans. It has way better writing than evolution and although they mostly use recycled animation you could tell that the team behind it is passionate about it. There’s not many traction to the project but it’ll be cool if you could check it out.
Watching both of your Code Lyoko videos first off I want to appreciate all of the Shadow the Hedgehog music that was used. I can tell how big of a fan you are. Second I'm glad you became the true Lyoko warrior and watched and summarized Evolution for us. I watched one episode yesterday and "I rather not talk about it". Thank you for being a fan!
I remember seeing this a few years ago. It's a big mess like if someone wrote it with just the basis of the show. They even race changed a minor Character and made sissy a blonde funny enough. They treat William like trash way too much when he doesn't have the data that could have made him more useful as he has no loss fighting the humans. It took forever for them to accept him and even then he doesn't do much. Animation side it looks great. I love the colors and the new vehicle but the areas are quite limited overall compared to the original that expanded on itself with area 5 as well as the digital sea. Live action wise it's all just zombies with some electrical powers that chase and hug the cast for data and a Mary Sue that rightfully gets kicked out of the cast but the plot was just a mess overall.

The sad thing is that a lot of fan shows are better at being a sequel/ continuation of Code Lyoko than evolution was.😔 That and the volcano sector from the game, STILL wasn’t added in the 3-d segments.😭🤷🏼♀️ And was I only one who thought that William’s live action actor looked Robert Pattinson?
@@poppag8281 there’s a channel called Code Lyoko Beyond and they’ve managed to a do seasons 5-6 by mixing 2-d and 3-d footage already available. They’ve even used some from the 3-d segments of evolution and they have an actual explanation for why they’re avatars changed. It also involves William a bit more and goes through the guilt he feels for possessed so easily on his first run, and being an enemy for so long. Plus they went a route were Franz hopper is a bit crazy. He’s not back, but the gang found more of his recordings were he exhibits some… sociopathic traits and nefarious motives with Xana. Even Aelita is a bit unnerved.
@@poppag8281 as a second one, there’s another channel called Özberk Özen that titled it’s sequel series Code Lyoko Adventures. This one’s a bit less polished than the other one I mentioned but that’s because they either make or heavily edit existing 2-d and footage. They even used blender to make an avatar for Jeremy. It’s impressive fan project and you definitely see the effort and time that went into it. The story is pretty good to.
I still remember when Code Lyoko Evolution was announced and like you, I was ecstatic but then they revealed it was gonna be live action and my excitement came to a screeching halt. And then the show's trailer dropped and the first thing that came to my mind was "this looks like it's gonna be a train-wreck". And it turns out that was true since it ended up getting cancelled lol. Where to start. I agree that the show's CGI looks beautiful, the character models look nice though nitpick with Yumi's model, I wish they kept her half out/half tucked hair where she tucked the right side of her behind her ear because the way it looks in Evolution's model looks so bad imo, I can't explain it LOL But aside from that yeah, I will give the show that much that the CGI models looked rather nice. Though in saying that I still like the 2003 models, sure they look rough around the edges but it oozes that early 2000s charm and it actually wasn't the worst CGI that the 2000s had to offer. Anyway back to Evolution lol. I only watched the first episode and I didn't bother continuing, I wasn't invested. I don't care if it's shallow but the live action I just couldn't jibe with. The 2D animation, big foreheads and all was a part of what made the show fun to watch and they should've just kept true to the OG style. I know that it was because of budget but they should've fought for it and rolled the dice because Code Lyoko was considered a hit of 2000s animation that amassed as sizeable fanbase and had they kept the 2D animation, it would've been worth it as I'm sure more people would've watched. Animation aside, I'm happy to hear that William was treated a little better in this show because that's one of the frustrating things about the OG series, the gang giving William the shaft after he's freed from Xana and him not being able to be redeemed going out with an epic L and no closure. So learning about this aspect of the show wass nice. And I thank you for covering the subplot with Aelita's mom. When I heard that they were going to be focusing more on that loose end where we learned more about Anthea, I was mildly intrigued but in the back of my head, I knew they were gonna fudge it up in some way and it seems like they did by not giving her much character at all. And again, no continuation of the 2D animation that could've done their reunion with a lot more emotion? Nah I think I'm good lol. It's just a shame that Code Lyoko Evolution was such a flop because on the one hand, it could've been great had they kept the original style and had better writing but on the other hand, I'm proud that the fans of the OG series were not easily impressed and blindly accepting of it just because it has "Code Lyoko" in the title. That all said, I'm open to them trying again. Just redo Evolution with the 2D animation and fix up some of the writing, I'd be down to give it a watch. Anyway awesome analysis!
the sad thing is in hindsight and reality Evolution feels like something that was doomed to fail mostly cause it wasn't really being made with the intention of wanting to have a worthy follow up (I argue we really didn't need a follow up) they just needed cash cause that was one of the few shows under there belt that was a hit so make it quick and make it cheap and it shows shame really.

Bank on the nostalgia of the show since it was one of Cartoon Network's popular 2000s action shows. And they treated it with a lack of care hence them not fighting for a budget so they could've continued the 2D/3D animation.
Maybe I just have bad taste lol? I’m currently watching it and am on episode 6 and don’t think it’s too bad, I’m actually enjoying it but maybe I’m not giving it much thought and focusing on the nostalgia.
looking back on CodeLyoko Devolution I feel like the live action would've worked really well if it was a movie, because a lot of the tropes that they tried to translate from the original series were in some cases references to actual movies. However it's sad to see this series go, I grew up with CodeLyoko, I watched the first episode when it was first showing on Cartoon Network, and I even watched the re-runs (when they still showed them) Heck my desktop background is the Celestial Dome from Sector 5, and I'm making a Minecraft mod based on code lyoko (this one actually has Lyoko in it) I sure hope an indie studio with the passion behind it will continue the legacy. Heck technically we have a proper Season 5, and it comes in the form of IFSCL (the guy behind that game even got the actual english voice actors) so there's still a chance, but a slim one
Evolution is not that bad, like I've watched worse shows. I really liked the new music, especially the tower theme, Tyron plotline, and even Aelita's mom plotline, though it should've been explored more. The transition between live action and CGI is very smooth, sometimes I forget the Lyoko parts are animated.
So they basically decided to bring in another love interest for Jeremy in the form of Laura. and Jeremy falls in love with her Wow! This is already disrespectful to the original show. Because it established that Aelita was the one who Jeremy was interested in, that was the entire reason why Jeremy wanted to get her out of the Super Computer in the first place. and as shown by the episode 'Xana's Kiss'. Jeremy would never cheat on her, yet here he is. Cheating on her Also, Xana being able to come back........ Makes Zero sense because he fizzled out in the original and since Jeremy and the others completely shut down the Super Computer in the Original, Xana is supposed to be gone forever. Because he can't do anything if the computer is off, and the Anti Xana virus erased all traces of him from the internet in the original Instead of doing a sequel series or something, why not make a new incarnation that introduces new versions of the characters. or better yet, why not make a prequel series that goes in depth with Aelita's family? Considering the fact that the original show didn't explain who Xana is or how he was made, and Frantz Hopper's motives seemed questionable. and it didn't communicate very well as to why government agents were after him, or why he thought locking himself and Aelita in the super computer was a good idea
Or do ANOTHER sequel series where Mark Zuckerberg buys the shut down super computer warehouse to realize his dreams of making the metaverse and simultaneously creates a new ai hellbent on destroying humanity.
Yeah this is a series i never watched for 2 reasons.: - I usually despise live action shows, especially when its reboots/remakes/follow up to cartoon ones, because when theres cringeworthy scenes, it feels worse then if its in liveaction and because they usually are lazier in terms of production. The OG series had budget issues but at least they tried. The Evo series feels like the oposite, they had budget but didnt try and instead hope the better animation in the cgi scenes and the nostlagia would carry them. The change from 2d to liveaction also cripples alot of X.A.N.A.'s schemes wich could go from ridiculous but dangerous to outright serious threat that will wipe multiple people if not stopped. - The villain scientist dude who when told X.A.N.A. is a dangerous program that he should not fuck with, had the most saturday morning cartoon villain vibe while being Boring as fuck. His introduction was the first ep I watch and avoided the show like a plague for years. Edit.: Ngl, the moment Laura was brought up and end up being both better at code the Jeremy and Aelita (somehow?) and that her main trait is that shes weak to pressure, I thought she was gonna be revealed as a traitor from XANA or the Scientist, but no she was just a problem due to her dad being a shit and her not having a backbone or acting like a mary sue (for lack of a bettr term).
The official Portuguese dub is AMAZING! They kept almost all of the original voice actors (Except for Jeremy cause he has grown and the other VA was a girl and did not fit) I honestly enjoyed watching this as a kid, but maybe it was because of our good dubs
Imagine if they tried this series again, but with 2 things. Remake the live action scenes in a 2D anime style instead, and fix the writing and character development in those while leaving the 3D sections. This can be a way to salvage this.
I think Evolution would have been better off just going full CGI. 2D animation is more expensive, and takes longer, but the live action just was not the move. I don't know how much of the show's fanbase was composed of adults in the early 2010s, but I wouldn't have thought less of them if they decided to do some kind of crowdfunding initiative to help raise money for the show. Of course, this all assumes that they actually treated the show like a proper continuation. The main issue with the story was, as you said, the fact that they were only reviving the Code Lyoko branding for the quick cash injection. The original series left a lot of questions unanswered, but for what it was, I think it left off at a pretty good spot. Perhaps the better approach to this whole thing would've been to tackle the backstory of Waldo/Franz and Anthea. That actually would've been a good way to justify using cheaper CGI animation, because then there's either no Lyoko, or very little of it, because it's about the Schaeffers' lives before XANA. So there wouldn't be any "confusion" about whether they're on Lyoko (although that'd be solved by their outfits anyways).
i really liked Evolution, personally. i wish it was in English but my love for the show never stopped me from watching it. so over all i like it. tho i'm not the kind of guy to look for issues in shows i just enjoy what i watch :)
Gonna have to strongly disagree on the childish, Miraculous-style CGi looking better than the original. Season 1 does look really dated, but by season 4 the animation had improved exponentially.
Yeah and the slowness of the 3d animation in the original series wasn't so bad compared to the fast, no emotion and the lack of detail like William's hair wasn't as layered made him look less cooler. Ulrich is also kinda underpowered compared to the original. He was supposed to be the most dangerous in the group and posed a threat to XANA. I also dislike yumi in evolution for some reason, her outfits just don't sit right with me. She just seems less...cooler. she also wasn't so uptight and emotionless in the original.
I personally enjoyed evolution though not as much as I enjoyed the original Code Lyoko series. I was just happy that I got to see my favorite series and characters again.
Say what u will about the original code lyoko but it was way more unique and distinct with its art and animation while evolution feels lackluster and lifeless in comparison I'm content with how the shows original ending played versus continuing it on for the sake of making a buck on peoples nostalgia.
Honestly I would say that evolution had far, far worse 3d animation, it is more stiff and the outfits imo look worse, especially williams. The lighting tho is superior. There are rumors of something new and official from code lyoko, hoping its true. Nice review!
Yeah, nothing can top Transformed XANA William's outfit and in it, you can take it seriously especially with him possessing an altered XANAfied brain and anytime he walks up with clenched fists or just walk with Sword resting, it is threatening and the robotic demonic deep voice of XANA blended with William's also adds to it but not Evolution XANA Willaim.

At least this show has one fan... ReBoot: the Guardian Code. Seriously... because that show actually ripped off Code Lyoko Evolution. When you are copying CLE... then you should know you got creativity and production issues.
Don't get me wrong; in the end the show wasn't successful or memorable. But unlike other shows in the world, I didn't find this a waste of time to watch. There were some good moments and elements, and especially since it's only 26 episodes, it can't hurt to take a look at it. Yes, MoonScoop screwed up with this one, but I wouldn't call it a complete disaster. In the end if it's that bad, fair enough. But like I said before, I don't think watching it is a complete waste of time.
Code Lyoko needs a proper continuation. They had the right idea with Evolution, but SO MUCH leaves to be desired. They should've kept it how it was, animation wise (2D and 3D mixed), Fix up the characters from Season 4 by changing them back to how they were in Season 1 (Except Aelita), turn the kids into adults, new location, pretty much keep as much of the OG series while keeping it fresh and new. The FEW things I'll give Evolution are Jim (The only character that's accurate), William, and the Improved 3D Animation. But... The Live Action was awful to the point where the characters don't look accurate at all. Not so much Jeremie, Yumi, Ulrich, and Jim; they look fine enough... but Odd looks like a kid that snuck onto the set, William gives Andrew Garfield vibes, Mrs. Herts goes from Rosemary Harris to Marisa Tomae, Samantha Knight is suddenly white (She was black in the Animated Series), and they didn't even TRY to find a good casting candidate for both Sissy and Mr. Delmas. Screw Laura, As far as the worst Female Characters in fiction go, she's in my Top 3 with Princess Elise (Sonic 06), and Abby (Last of Us Part 2). The Forest and Ice Sectors are gone, and it sucks because they ALREADY got the short end of the stick by Season 2, XANA'S Attacks were lame, and for god's sake DO NOT WATCH THE ONLY EPISODE THAT WAS DUBBED IN ENGLISH! (Unless you wanna die of pure cringe) Again, a Continuation wasn't a bad idea (Beats the shit out of a reboot), but as far as the execution goes... Just like Sonic 06, it is abysmal. It has a few good ideas and a redeeming factor or two, but they aren't enough to save it. If I were to recommend Code Lyoko, stick to the animated series.
Nah I have to disagree man, Jeremie did not fall for Laura he just sees her as help they need, its Aelita who thinks she is her rival, and acts on it. Dannng man do not cross Aelita! I look at this being that Aelita is still learning how to human again, and her feelings for Jeremie are very strong.
Can someone just tell me why they made the interior of Towers cylindrical and exterior square-shaped? Like if you're going to make the Towers differently shaped on out, make it the same on in.
Being a long time fan of Code Lyoko this was definitely series I wish they continued through animation. I agree with you that I love the 3D animation update as well as William’s redemption. I swear what the hell have the done with the rest of the cast. Also for the love of god never give a brand new character as a conflict of interest which just sucks hence why Laura is a pain. It’s been years after we heard from Lyoko again but I do hope we get to see a true sequel to the series.

While Evolution is bad, your review shines light on some really cool plot potential. If this was 2D, it would more acceptable and pretty cool with that 3D improvement. I wouldn't mind the black towers, if they included it was a design change upon its recreation because XANA or Tyrone.
i think then, the only good thing in Evolution is the improved 3D models (way better than in the old series) and Jim, Yumi and poooooooooooossibly William being like the original characters in the 2d predecesor, but it's jus that, those 2 things, the rest... well... you know, this is what happens when you pirate in your "trustworthy" page
honestly i really don't like the new style of cgi in evolution. like sure it's objectively better animation, but the cgi in the original show has a lot of unique charm to it, while the cgi in evolution feels a lot blander and more generic to me. it doesn't stand out like the original show's cgi does.
You know, there are people who compare this show to Dragonball Evolution, but really, it isn’t a great comparison. I’d compare Code Lyoko Evolution to Dragon Ball GT, in the sense that it has some good ideas, but several of them had bad execution. The main difference, however, is that compared to Code Lyoko Evolution, Dragon Ball GT has more good ideas that were actually handled well, such as Super Saiyan 4, Baby, and actually having a proper ending!!!!! In all honesty, I’d rather take Goku being turned into a kid over Code Lyoko !being turned into a live action show any day!!!!

I don’t know if that’s because I’m french too, but I think that the live action part is very different from everything I’ve seen in us shows. I mean the actors look different than the us ones, the atmosphere is really different,and I could easily distinguish between a french and an English police show I don’t really know why though…
Eh, I think that, while the live action was bad, it wouldn't be unforgivable with better... literally everything else. No, seriously. With better acting, camerawork, editing, and story, I truly believe the live action could have worked. ... It would have been a little nice if they got the actual details of Kadic right as well, like the fact that the entrance to the sewers did not, in fact, protrude from the ground, but whatever.
Well ill comment on this. I just finished watching the whole code lyoko series except this live action version, just not a fan. The final to season 4 was great beacuse the team was moving on with their lives. Jeremy and aelita felt like they would put more time into their relationship now that xana was gone. Ulrich and Yumi came to know there is something there and want to see where it goes. Now i think a private goverment brings xana back is a great idea, as he was over multiple super computers and could have been found by a secert govemtn group, who think they can control the AI. I do not agree with the new love intrest for jeremy as it is understandable that he may from feelings for other girls, but in all previous episodes he was loyal to Aelita and they were the mom and dad of the team😂. If i redid the serious i would jump some time to where they are in seinour or juinor year, showing they have grown and are persuing their passions. Xana would still come back but weaker and under the control of the private goverment. They think they have control of it, but he is using them to build his power. It would be the goal of the seaons to destroy xana and stop the private government. They could still have ties to aelita's past story of the kidnapping and secert government. Love to know what fans think of this idea, hope its a similar thought.
I never bothered watching Evolution, and I'm just as glad now that I didn't as I am that the head writer of the first three seasons of the original series declared Evolution non-canon. I'm gonna go with that.
I was glad sissy wasn't here except a couple episode because for me she was mostly annoyed and not very funny as if she was created to annoy the main cast and because she liked Ulrich who clearly isn't interested. he doesn't even want to be her friend because she always is insulting his.
The problem I have with the redesigned CGI is that the original avatars were kind of charming in how ugly they were. This CGI looks *perfect* and as a result it looks like the redesigned Andy from Toy Story 4 in that they're unrecognizable. Also, here I expected Aelita's mom to be dead, because the original one seemed open and shut on that.
I honestly prefer the CG models of S2 onwards in the original show, Transformed XANA William has the best Avatar and CG face but everyone else also have the best CG faces, outfits in S4 are okay but the XANA William in the same Season tops theirs and the characters in Evolution just dont look good, in fact their faces are much uglier and dont feel the same.
I never actually finished "Code Lyoko: Evolution," so, I don't have too much to say. But, what I have seen, I thoroughly enjoyed. (Coming from someone who watched the original series for the first time 2 years ago.)

I know I’m 1 year late but remember when Jeremy said about Odd’s future vision that it got deleted while he was updating the super computer ? Well I think that’s why lyoko warriors didn’t use their powers in evolution, and that’s also the reason why the lyoko warriors outfits and towers changed in evolution
Really nice analysis. I enjoyed the whole video. I just wish they continued the original cartoon with updated graphics and a bit more lore. This is just such a bad ending for such a great tv show.

I refuse to acknowledge evolution is cannon in anyway, as far as I'm concerned the series ended with the gang shutting down the supercomputer after destroying Xana. As much as I would like a proper continuation one day, Evolution is not it.
My halfway point is... it happened, but _not in the show's Alpha Timeline._ When Franz and Xana both blew up at the end of the original, the blast of energy was so great that it _fractured the future into several timelines,_ all existing simultaniously and yet separate. Mutually exclusive continuations (Evolution itself, the Code Total Drama Reality crossover fic, the IFSCL fangame, etc) all simultaniously exist within the same multiverse, but are isolated both from each other and from the Alpha Timeline of the original series.
- In the timeline that "actually" happened, Xana is dead and gone, end of file.
- But occuring parallel to that, Xana came back somehow and teamed up with Mr Grudgelord from the original Project Carthage team.
- Occuring parallel to _that,_ Xana faked his death, stowed away on the world's first quantum computing laptop with a backup copy of the entire thing of Lyoko, and returned for revenge two years later just as Total Drama began a new season in a certain Parisian suburb.
- And occuring parallel to _all_ of them, Xana never died but the kids somehow found a way to rematerialize Franz, who helped them fight all the way to 13 April 2010, where Xana went endgame and Franz told Jeremie to essentially Scratch the entime timeline all the way back to 9 October 2003 while sending his memories back in time to partially control his past self.

While evolution did fail in being something great I belive that it does leave enough for something to still come from it. While it would be a wierd thing to see them switch from 2d to live action and back it would probably be for the best. If they decided to make a 2d continuation that could be something more of a small project to see how people would feel about it, I could see it doing well

Their are elements that I did enjoy of this serise, I give the actress who play Aelita for really get into character by wearing a pink hair wig and making her eyebrows pink, and the 3D animation was really good. Just The concept was bad and wasn't gonna enjoy by the fanbase. Plus, they didn't have no USA network to distribute it which was another bad mistake.
Also, not having the English VA involved was very stupid.

There’s currently an ongoing 2d/3d fanmade continuation of the og code lyoko that diverges from evolution. It’s uploaded on a channel called “Code Lyoko Beyond” and is made by a very small team of fans. It has way better writing than evolution and although they mostly use recycled animation you could tell that the team behind it is passionate about it. There’s not many traction to the project but it’ll be cool if you could check it out.
Watching both of your Code Lyoko videos first off I want to appreciate all of the Shadow the Hedgehog music that was used. I can tell how big of a fan you are. I remember seeing this a few years ago. It's a big mess like if someone wrote it with just the basis of the show. They even race changed a minor Character and made sissy a blonde funny enough.
They treat William like trash way too much when he doesn't have the data that could have made him more useful as he has no loss fighting the humans. It took forever for them to accept him and even then he doesn't do much.
Animation side it looks great. I love the colors and the new vehicle but the areas are quite limited overall compared to the original that expanded on itself with area 5 as well as the digital sea.
Live action wise it's all just zombies with some electrical powers that chase and hug the cast for data and a Mary Sue that rightfully gets kicked out of the cast but the plot was just a mess overall.

@@poppag8281 there’s a channel called Code Lyoko Beyond and they’ve managed to a do seasons 5-6 by mixing 2-d and 3-d footage already available. They’ve even used some from the 3-d segments of evolution and they have an actual explanation for why they’re avatars changed. It also involves William a bit more and goes through the guilt he feels for possessed so easily on his first run, and being an enemy for so long. Plus they went a route were Franz hopper is a bit crazy. He’s not back, but the gang found more of his recordings were he exhibits some… sociopathic traits and nefarious motives with Xana. Even Aelita is a bit unnerved.
@@poppag8281 as a second one, there’s another channel called Özberk Özen that titled it’s sequel series Code Lyoko Adventures. This one’s a bit less polished than the other one I mentioned but that’s because they either make or heavily edit existing 2-d and footage. They even used blender to make an avatar for Jeremy. It’s impressive fan project and you definitely see the effort and time that went into it. The story is pretty good to.
William is the ONE good thing Evolution does.
Definitely unfortunate this show can't be a good follow-up to the original. But the legacy of Code Lyoko is still kept alive by the fan base.
The only thing I liked about Evolution was that William got the redemption he deserved.
I still remember when Code Lyoko Evolution was announced and like you, I was ecstatic but then they revealed it was gonna be live action and my excitement came to a screeching halt. And then the show's trailer dropped and the first thing that came to my mind was "this looks like it's gonna be a train-wreck". And it turns out that was true since it ended up getting cancelled lol. Where to start. I agree that the show's CGI looks beautiful, the character models look nice though nitpick with Yumi's model, I wish they kept her half out/half tucked hair where she tucked the right side of her behind her ear because the way it looks in Evolution's model looks so bad imo, I can't explain it LOL But aside from that yeah, I will give the show that much that the CGI models looked rather nice. Though in saying that I still like the 2003 models, sure they look rough around the edges but it oozes that early 2000s charm and it actually wasn't the worst CGI that the 2000s had to offer. Anyway back to Evolution lol.
I only watched the first episode and I didn't bother continuing, I wasn't invested. I don't care if it's shallow but the live action I just couldn't jibe with. The 2D animation, big foreheads and all was a part of what made the show fun to watch and they should've just kept true to the OG style. I know that it was because of budget but they should've fought for it and rolled the dice because Code Lyoko was considered a hit of 2000s animation that amassed as sizeable fanbase and had they kept the 2D animation, it would've been worth it as I'm sure more people would've watched. Animation aside, I'm happy to hear that William was treated a little better in this show because that's one of the frustrating things about the OG series, the gang giving William the shaft after he's freed from Xana and him not being able to be redeemed going out with an epic L and no closure. So learning about this aspect of the show wass nice.
And I thank you for covering the subplot with Aelita's mom. When I heard that they were going to be focusing more on that loose end where we learned more about Anthea, I was mildly intrigued but in the back of my head, I knew they were gonna fudge it up in some way and it seems like they did by not giving her much character at all. And again, no continuation of the 2D animation that could've done their reunion with a lot more emotion? Nah I think I'm good lol.
It's just a shame that Code Lyoko Evolution was such a flop because on the one hand, it could've been great had they kept the original style and had better writing but on the other hand, I'm proud that the fans of the OG series were not easily impressed and blindly accepting of it just because it has "Code Lyoko" in the title. That all said, I'm open to them trying again. Just redo Evolution with the 2D animation and fix up some of the writing, I'd be down to give it a watch.

Bank on the nostalgia of the show since it was one of Cartoon Network's popular 2000s action shows. looking back on CodeLyoko Devolution I feel like the live action would've worked really well if it was a movie, because a lot of the tropes that they tried to translate from the original series were in some cases references to actual movies. However it's sad to see this series go, I grew up with CodeLyoko, I watched the first episode when it was first showing on Cartoon Network, and I even watched the re-runs (when they still showed them) Heck my desktop background is the Celestial Dome from Sector 5, and I'm making a Minecraft mod based on code lyoko (this one actually has Lyoko in it) I sure hope an indie studio with the passion behind it will continue the legacy. Heck technically we have a proper Season 5, and it comes in the form of IFSCL (the guy behind that game even got the actual english voice actors) so there's still a chance, but a slim one

Evolution is not that bad, like I've watched worse shows. I really liked the new music, especially the tower theme, Tyron plotline, and even Aelita's mom plotline, though it should've been explored more. The transition between live action and CGI is very smooth, sometimes I forget the Lyoko parts are animated.

Wow! This is already disrespectful to the original show. Because it established that Aelita was the one who Jeremy was interested in, that was the entire reason why Jeremy wanted to get her out of the Super Computer in the first place. and as shown by the episode 'Xana's Kiss'. Jeremy would never cheat on her, yet here he is. Cheating on her
Also, Xana being able to come back........ Makes Zero sense because he fizzled out in the original and since Jeremy and the others completely shut down the Super Computer in the Original, Xana is supposed to be gone forever. Because he can't do anything if the computer is off, and the Anti Xana virus erased all traces of him from the internet in the original
Instead of doing a sequel series or something, why not make a new incarnation that introduces new versions of the characters. or better yet, why not make a prequel series that goes in depth with Aelita's family? Considering the fact that the original show didn't explain who Xana is or how he was made, and Frantz Hopper's motives seemed questionable. and it didn't communicate very well as to why government agents were after him, or why he thought locking himself and Aelita in the super computer was a good idea
Or do ANOTHER sequel series where Mark Zuckerberg buys the shut down super computer warehouse to realize his dreams of making the metaverse and simultaneously creates a new ai hellbent on destroying humanity.

Yeah this is a series i never watched for 2 reasons.:
- I usually despise live action shows, especially when its reboots/remakes/follow up to cartoon ones, because when theres cringeworthy scenes, it feels worse then if its in liveaction and because they usually are lazier in terms of production. The OG series had budget issues but at least they tried. The Evo series feels like the oposite, they had budget but didnt try and instead hope the better animation in the cgi scenes and the nostlagia would carry them.
The change from 2d to liveaction also cripples alot of X.A.N.A.'s schemes wich could go from ridiculous but dangerous to outright serious threat that will wipe multiple people if not stopped.
- The villain scientist dude who when told X.A.N.A. is a dangerous program that he should not fuck with, had the most saturday morning cartoon villain vibe while being Boring as fuck. His introduction was the first ep I watch and avoided the show like a plague for years.

Ngl, the moment Laura was brought up and end up being both better at code the Jeremy and Aelita (somehow?) and that her main trait is that shes weak to pressure, I thought she was gonna be revealed as a traitor from XANA or the Scientist, but no she was just a problem due to her dad being a shit and her not having a backbone or acting like a mary sue (for lack of a bettr term).

Remake the live action scenes in a 2D anime style instead, and fix the writing and character development in those while leaving the 3D sections.

I think Evolution would have been better off just going full CGI. 2D animation is more expensive, and takes longer, but the live action just was not the move. I don't know how much of the show's fanbase was composed of adults in the early 2010s, but I wouldn't have thought less of them if they decided to do some kind of crowdfunding initiative to help raise money for the show. Of course, this all assumes that they actually treated the show like a proper continuation. The main issue with the story was, as you said, the fact that they were only reviving the Code Lyoko branding for the quick cash injection. The original series left a lot of questions unanswered, but for what it was, I think it left off at a pretty good spot.
Perhaps the better approach to this whole thing would've been to tackle the backstory of Waldo/Franz and Anthea. That actually would've been a good way to justify using cheaper CGI animation, because then there's either no Lyoko, or very little of it, because it's about the Schaeffers' lives before XANA. So there wouldn't be any "confusion" about whether they're on Lyoko (although that'd be solved by their outfits anyways).
i really liked Evolution, personally. i wish it was in English but my love for the show never stopped me from watching it. so over all i like it. tho i'm not the kind of guy to look for issues in shows i just enjoy what i watch :)

Gonna have to strongly disagree on the childish, Miraculous-style CGi looking better than the original. Season 1 does look really dated, but by season 4 the animation had improved exponentially.
I actually believe everything got better in Season 2 because the models and everything have the exact same look and flow as the fourth Season.
Yeah and the slowness of the 3d animation in the original series wasn't so bad compared to the fast, no emotion and the lack of detail like William's hair wasn't as layered made him look less cooler. Ulrich is also kinda underpowered compared to the original. He was supposed to be the most dangerous in the group and posed a threat to XANA. I also dislike yumi in evolution for some reason, her outfits just don't sit right with me. She just seems less...cooler. she also wasn't so uptight and emotionless in the original.
I personally enjoyed evolution though not as much as I enjoyed the original Code Lyoko series. I was just happy that I got to see my favorite series and characters again.
Say what u will about the original code lyoko but it was way more unique and distinct with its art and animation while evolution feels lackluster and lifeless in comparison I'm content with how the shows original ending played versus continuing it on for the sake of making a buck on peoples nostalgia.

Yeah, nothing can top Transformed XANA William's outfit and in it, you can take it seriously especially with him possessing an altered XANAfied brain and anytime he walks up with clenched fists or just walk with Sword resting, it is threatening and the robotic demonic deep voice of XANA blended with William's also adds to it but not Evolution XANA Willaim.

At least this show has one fan... ReBoot: the Guardian Code. Seriously... because that show actually ripped off Code Lyoko Evolution. When you are copying CLE... then you should know you got creativity and production issues.
Don't get me wrong; in the end the show wasn't successful or memorable. But unlike other shows in the world, I didn't find this a waste of time to watch. There were some good moments and elements, and especially since it's only 26 episodes, it can't hurt to take a look at it. Yes, MoonScoop screwed up with this one, but I wouldn't call it a complete disaster. In the end if it's that bad, fair enough. But like I said before, I don't think watching it is a complete waste of time.
Code Lyoko needs a proper continuation. They had the right idea with Evolution, but SO MUCH leaves to be desired.
They should've kept it how it was, animation wise (2D and 3D mixed), Fix up the characters from Season 4 by changing them back to how they were in Season 1 (Except Aelita), turn the kids into adults, new location, pretty much keep as much of the OG series while keeping it fresh and new.
The FEW things I'll give Evolution are Jim (The only character that's accurate), William, and the Improved 3D Animation.
But...
The Live Action was awful to the point where the characters don't look accurate at all. Not so much Jeremie, Yumi, Ulrich, and Jim; they look fine enough... but Odd looks like a kid that snuck onto the set, William gives Andrew Garfield vibes, Mrs. Herts goes from Rosemary Harris to Marisa Tomae, Samantha Knight is suddenly white (She was black in the Animated Series), and they didn't even TRY to find a good casting candidate for both Sissy and Mr. Delmas.
Screw Laura, As far as the worst Female Characters in fiction go, she's in my Top 3 with Princess Elise (Sonic 06), and Abby (Last of Us Part 2).
The Forest and Ice Sectors are gone, and it sucks because they ALREADY got the short end of the stick by Season 2, XANA'S Attacks were lame, and for god's sake DO NOT WATCH THE ONLY EPISODE THAT WAS DUBBED IN ENGLISH! (Unless you wanna die of pure cringe)
Again, a Continuation wasn't a bad idea (Beats the shit out of a reboot), but as far as the execution goes... Just like Sonic 06, it is abysmal. It has a few good ideas and a redeeming factor or two, but they aren't enough to save it.
If I were to recommend Code Lyoko, stick to the animated series.

Nah I have to disagree man, Jeremie did not fall for Laura he just sees her as help they need, its Aelita who thinks she is her rival, and acts on it. Dannng man do not cross Aelita! I look at this being that Aelita is still learning how to human again, and her feelings for Jeremie are very strong.

Being a long time fan of Code Lyoko this was definitely series I wish they continued through animation. I agree with you that I love the 3D animation update as well as William’s redemption. I swear what the hell have the done with the rest of the cast. Also for the love of god never give a brand new character as a conflict of interest which just sucks hence why Laura is a pain. It’s been years after we heard from Lyoko again but I do hope we get to see a true sequel to the series.

While Evolution is bad, your review shines light on some really cool plot potential. If this was 2D, it would more acceptable and pretty cool with that 3D improvement. I wouldn't mind the black towers, if they included it was a design change upon its recreation because XANA or Tyrone.

honestly i really don't like the new style of cgi in evolution. like sure it's objectively better animation, but the cgi in the original show has a lot of unique charm to it, while the cgi in evolution feels a lot blander and more generic to me. it doesn't stand out like the original show's cgi does.

You know, there are people who compare this show to Dragonball Evolution, but really, it isn’t a great comparison. I’d compare Code Lyoko Evolution to Dragon Ball GT, in the sense that it has some good ideas, but several of them had bad execution. The main difference, however, is that compared to Code Lyoko Evolution, Dragon Ball GT has more good ideas that were actually handled well, such as Super Saiyan 4, Baby, and actually having a proper ending!!!!! In all honesty, I’d rather take Goku being turned into a kid over Code Lyoko !being turned into a live action show any day!!!!

I don’t know if that’s because I’m french too, but I think that the live action part is very different from everything I’ve seen in us shows.
I mean the actors look different than the us ones, the atmosphere is really different,and I could easily distinguish between a french and an English police show

Eh, I think that, while the live action was bad, it wouldn't be unforgivable with better... literally everything else. No, seriously. With better acting, camerawork, editing, and story, I truly believe the live action could have worked.
... It would have been a little nice if they got the actual details of Kadic right as well, like the fact that the entrance to the sewers did not, in fact, protrude from the ground, but whatever.
Well ill comment on this. I just finished watching the whole code lyoko series except this live action version, just not a fan.
The final to season 4 was great beacuse the team was moving on with their lives. Jeremy and aelita felt like they would put more time into their relationship now that xana was gone. Ulrich and Yumi came to know there is something there and want to see where it goes.
Now i think a private goverment brings xana back is a great idea, as he was over multiple super computers and could have been found by a secert govemtn group, who think they can control the AI. I do not agree with the new love intrest for jeremy as it is understandable that he may from feelings for other girls, but in all previous episodes he was loyal to Aelita and they were the mom and dad of the team😂.
If i redid the serious i would jump some time to where they are in seinour or juinor year, showing they have grown and are persuing their passions. Xana would still come back but weaker and under the control of the private goverment. They think they have control of it, but he is using them to build his power. It would be the goal of the seaons to destroy xana and stop the private government. They could still have ties to aelita's past story of the kidnapping and secert government.
Love to know what fans think of this idea, hope its a similar thought.
I never bothered watching Evolution, and I'm just as glad now that I didn't as I am that the head writer of the first three seasons of the original series declared Evolution non-canon. I'm gonna go with that.
The only problem I have with evolution is the live action scenes aren't enough, lyoko scenes are decent but short.
I have a theory what if due too Franz and tyron falling out tyron was the reason xana became evil and betrayed Franz.
I was glad sissy wasn't here except a couple episode because for me she was mostly annoyed and not very funny as if she was created to annoy the main cast and because she liked Ulrich who clearly isn't interested. he doesn't even want to be her friend because she always is insulting his.
Such a shame that Evolution killed the whole franchise, it has so much potential.
The problem I have with the redesigned CGI is that the original avatars were kind of charming in how ugly they were.
This CGI looks *perfect* and as a result it looks like the redesigned Andy from Toy Story 4 in that they're unrecognizable.
Also, here I expected Aelita's mom to be dead, because the original one seemed open and shut on that.
I honestly prefer the CG models of S2 onwards in the original show, Transformed XANA William has the best Avatar and CG face but everyone else also have the best CG faces, outfits in S4 are okay but the XANA William in the same Season tops theirs and the characters in Evolution just dont look good, in fact their faces are much uglier and dont feel the same.
Only good thing this show did was give William the redemption he deserved. Other than that, I’m not a fan of it

I never actually finished "Code Lyoko: Evolution," so, I don't have too much to say. But, what I have seen, I thoroughly enjoyed. (Coming from someone who watched the original series for the first time 2 years ago.)
After Episode 7 I think the episodes are good

I liked Evolution, but I didn't LOVE it. To many changes. Sisi not having black hair: unforgivable. No good english version: unforgivable.

I know I’m 1 year late but remember when Jeremy said about Odd’s future vision that it got deleted while he was updating the super computer ? Well I think that’s why lyoko warriors didn’t use their powers in evolution, and that’s also the reason why the lyoko warriors outfits and towers changed in evolution

Really nice analysis. I enjoyed the whole video. I just wish they continued the original cartoon with updated graphics and a bit more lore. This is just such a bad ending for such a great tv show.
Based on that little comparison snippet you showcase, the English dub seems to sound better than the original French. That's concerning.

@@jtlovescodelyoko Alright. I was only thinking of the comparison to when the guy said three, because to me it sounded less genuine and more robotic. But clearly I wouldn't know, since I've never seen the show and barely saw enough of the English dub in this video to make an appropriate comparison.

The moral rights of each Code Lyoko episode, each Code Lyoko prototype and side animation, and each Code Lyoko Evolution episode are owned by their respective writers, storyboarders, animators, and other creators.
The original literary and graphical bibles are morally owned by their respective creators, as stated in the history section.
Code Lyoko Evolution's literary bible's moral rights are owned by Sophie Decroisette.
Current Status Of Code Lyoko French Proprietary Rights
France Télévisions and the Lagardère Group (the owners of Canal J) seem to have exclusive broadcasting rights in France for Code Lyoko and Code Lyoko Evolution.
Aside from cases where media was purchased before the transfer, like on Amazon or iTunes, Mediatoon seems to hold the exclusive digital distribution rights for Code Lyoko, and is using UA-cam to distribute it.

Kabillion seems to exclusively hold the US broadcasting rights.

It's unknown if Megamax still holds any of the broadcast rights for their respective markets.
