I would recommend starting by doing your best to reproduce kpop beats. Reproducing songs is a great way to get your brain aligned with a certain genre and allow you to setup a creative framework for you to make original songs. Get a DAW, and maybe a midi keyboard. Splice has studio one, and a bunch of different synthesizers for rent to own if you dont want to spend a bunch of money up front.
As someone that wishes to become a K-Pop producer and was kind of losing motivation with life in general lately, thank you for making this video. And thank you for reminding me to practice practice practice and then try try try and that it can take a long time, so when I try for different opportunities I'll know to keep going. I love that this channel exists.
The thing is, original and passionate composers often face a time when they feel like quitting, nothing they create sounds good to them, but they just need to recover from it and after that phase of musical decline, they come out with progress. Every artist has their hard times, but what comes after that is often grandiose. And I agree with you, if you're in music, and you're serious, (serious meaning as earning profit from it) you should have patience, because it takes a lot of time. 💝 I'm not a fan of KPOP though, but taking in positive vibes from this video it is quite motivating, Thank you very much!
I appreciate your honesty! It was soooo nervous about uploading this as I haven't talked about my failures so openly before, especially not on a UA-cam video! @@rnbyido since this video ive had quite a few more holds but no cuts yet. it is taking longer than i thought in all honesty haha but as my manager keeps saying "keep going, once that first cut happens every shifts" ive also managed to write with some really prolific K/J-Pop writers and sent out to Sweden for a K/J-Pop writing camp (which was insanely fun btw) but yeah no cuts, thinking its gonna be at least 2 years. not PRS as they rep you in the UK but Japan / Korea have their own royalty collection entities i believe!
@@AZODi excellent .. hopefully something will stick for you soon mate.. surely mcps must collect download royalties from those territories?? I've always fancied having a go at k pop.. I'm a pop-rnb guy so not a million miles away from this stuff.. had lots of colleges in music tell me to write and produce k pop.. but I guess it must be quite saturated with writers and producers obvs because of the rewards I guess
Thanks David! Yeah ha ha I had to dig deep, I learned quite a lot about the history. PSY really brought Kpop to the rest of the world in a massive way, that moment when I was in the pub seeing those drunk guys I remember thinking "This is really surreal and really big" Are you writing music too?
@@AZODi So my roommate and friends in college would go to Karaoke during college over a decade ago, and my good friend would always sing PSY's older song as he was already big in Korea at the time. Paul Lennox thanks Paul! Glad it helped and showed a thing or two! I’m still learning the ropes for the writers who are better than me, once I have a few cuts under my belt maybe I can help. You have to stick at it for the long game as mentioned in the video!
Man, I stumbled onto your channel after seeing your "More" reaction. I must say, I've always been really interested in getting involved in production, but I've always said that "oh, I don't really know any instruments other than my voice, and that's still touch and go," and I end up just practicing the same four songs on the piano, while buying hardware and software I'll probably never make use of if I don't take the passion more seriously. If there was any advice you could give for someone who's really interested in music production, but always struggles when they open up the DAW, what would it be? If you do read this, I'm sorry because I've never been "that guy" who just goes into someone's comment section to ask questions directly to the creator. Your story just inspired me so much, I had to reach out!
Thanks Gavin! All good! tbh i would say try and enjoy the process and have as much fun as possible at the start. Fun is the most important thing as that will get you through the harder periods of the production journey! Everyone has the chance to write for Korea, its amazing!
@@taehyunkim5709 The best way to start is to simply start! Grab your DAW and some soft synths and start playing around. The most important part at this stage is to have fun and enjoy it. You don't need to worry about the more advanced stuff yet as it will come naturally the more you write. If you get stuck there are tonnes of tutorials here on UA-cam and some great producer communities on Facebook, Reddit and Discord! If you have live sound experience I imagine you will learn a lot faster too, especially on the mixing end! :)
Generally publishers have a list of producers they send out leads to. I just added a few on social media over the years and asked if i could write for them, that was how I started back in 2013 / 14 with K-Pop
oh man i know your struggle and tbh, i had the same around this time last year! this year was tough, everything was really slow right? it does get better but also remember, when you are in a good place, it will get harder. I like this philosophy as it keeps you grounded on both ends of the scale! hope you enjoyed the video!!
조 현오 some people do, but I don’t think I’ve ever started a song with lyrics. It varies, sometimes a song from a beat, a chord progression or a hook, bass line, it really varies!

Hi! K-pop for me is the best music in the world lol :) coz of it's unusual for west ear harmonies and melodies. Can u make video about harmony, melody and structure in songs like BVNDIT - Cool, 시그니처 - 눈누난나 (Nun Nu Nan Na) or Red Velvet - Zimzalabim ? Theese ones are not like BTS songs or smth, if u know what i mean
Bts truthfully paved the way to kpop in the world ! I discovered kpop actually in 2014 because of Boy in Luv ... I heard Gagnam Style before but i definetely didn't like it at all... But when a friend randomly played a kpop playlist and i heard Boy in Luv i liked it sosososo much lol 😅💜 then i started to stan them, and look at me now !!After years i still stan this kings and i would never believe that they would ever be this famous 😃 I'm so so proud of them !!!😍😍💜💜💜 p.s. *ARMY FOREVER* 💜💜💜
Good to know! Yeah BTS have definitely brought a new wave over to the West! I read an article the other day stating BTS help grew the most recent Hallyu wave to 90 million fans worldwide! I'm SO excited for the future of Kpop and Hallyu!

Thanks for sharing! I remember when seo taiji was popular. haha, you did your research :)
Good times..
To answer your question, I am writing orchestral music geared towards film and fantasy type games it seems. I always loved the music in Final Fantasy, Attack on Titan, and TSFH.
@@DavidLee-io8wd Very nice! Huge FF fan here (as you may have guessed :P) best OST's ever! Think over the years XIII and WoFF OST's have turned into my favourites, how about you? I actually got to write music for a Square Enix Collective game back when I was doing game comp which was awesome / crazy
@@AZODiI was really big in the FF games during the FF 6, 7, 8, tactics / chrono trigger period. The music was a huge part of it! Working with Square? Simply incredible man. Can't wait to see how big you get in Korea! Hope you negotiated a generous cut for having to wait so long :) Cheers!
@@DavidLee-io8wd I still need to play 6, it's apparently one of the better ones? I saw Distant Worlds a few years back and they played an entire 6 set, gutted as I knew none of the songs! ha ha Yeah working with SEC was crazy, hung out in the offices in London, was so cool! They had rooms named stuff like "Chocobo Room" and "Black Mage Room" Thanks man thats really kind, I hope I make progress in Korea! My publisher HYBRID MUSIC UK are really dope, great guys and treat me really well! Very lucky!
Man, you're so cool. I just discovered your channel, I'm gonna watch all of your videos :)
haha thanks dude I appreciate your kind words! Hope you enjoy the rest of the content!
Yes! I'm a live event DJ from Romania and O-ZONE is still a popular song for DJs to ploy. Not sure why because it's all in Romanian but it's still a throwback for many people! 😂😂
Amazing video, really useful information 🙂👍
Thanks Sonic! Glad it helped! :)
I've been searching for a music producer who works on a kpop songs and now i found this channel...you're so so talented and amazing and i really2 love your content...i'm also want to be a music producer....but now i'm focusing on beat making since i'm currently studying..😎i wish i could see you in person 🙂
thanks ivan i appreciate it and glad you enjoy the channel! good luck with it all!
Great video Chris. I learnt a lot from it! Off to Korea next week for a tour and was aiming to set up a few meetings whilst out there. I am interested in this market too and have started a few things. Perhaps we can collab on something? Congrats on the publishing deal tho that's ace.
Paul Lennox thanks Paul! Glad it helped and showed a thing or two! I’m still learning the ropes for the writers who are better than me, once I have a few cuts under my belt maybe I can help. You have to stick at it for the long game as mentioned in the video!
wow inspirational stuff man
thanks james much appreciated!! glad you found it interesting!
I started because i had ideas i wanted to get out of my head, it really was that straight forward in my own experience. i would recommend joining the kpop producer community on discord too!! i hope that is helpful for you and good luck!!
@@AZODi Thanks for that, I went ahead and joined (I'm Mooch,) and thanks for the advice as well 🙏
@@gavinrock6 oh mooooch hey! haha glad you joined!
What a great channel this is!

Lu hey lu! Thanks so much, I appreciate it! I’ll do my best and keep going 😊😊
@@AZODi awesome! do you plan on organizing any music workshops online? would love to see smt like that:)
also wanted to say that watching this video I found so many references to things I like, I was so pleasantly surprised when you mentioned Crossfaith and then Garyvee meme, very nice
Lu thanks so much! No I’ve never thought about doing a workshop before! I sometimes do feedback sessions for musicians in my discord sever tho, it’s kinda close I guess! Haha yeh I love me some Gary V, are you a fan? Crossfaith are great! Def check out Crystal Lake from JP too, amazing band!! You producing too??
@@AZODi ok awesome:) I entered the server so I might hit you up:D and yes, I've been following Gary for a couple years now, love that guy.
I went to a Crossfaith concert once, it was insane. Not listening to heavy music as much as I used to though. But I still listen to Architects!
Also I ocassionally create something in garage band, because I find it very simple to use and it has some nice sounds.. I should probably learn to work with some other programs as well :D
do one pls
thank you for this!
thanks mindy i appreciate it!! hope it was interesting!! :)
It seems like Korea relies on Swedish and Norwegian producers a lot.
Hey Taehyun! Thanks for your comment. Oh, like everyone around the globe for sure are writing! I've been fortunate enough to write Kpop with some incredible writers from Iceland, UK, Korea, Japan, USA, Holland, Sweden and Norway. I'm sure there are many more too. Everyone has the chance to write for Korea, its amazing!
@@AZODi I've always wanted to produce music but I don't even know where to start. My knowledge is limited to live sound.
I really want to become a producer but I'm maybe to old (21). I want to learn how to become a producer and give my best.
5:08 how do you get callouts from the publishers?
Generally publishers have a list of producers they send out leads to. I just added a few on social media over the years and asked if i could write for them, that was how I started back in 2013 / 14 with K-Pop
@@AZODi Thank you! Are there any publishers in particular you recommend?
If there was ever a time when I quit music it would be this year. Man your 2014 is my 2020. I can't seem to get a grip on this shit.
oh man i know your struggle and tbh, i had the same around this time last year! this year was tough, everything was really slow right? it does get better but also remember, when you are in a good place, it will get harder. I like this philosophy as it keeps you grounded on both ends of the scale! hope you enjoyed the video!!
Would love to see the technical side video.
Thanks! Yeah that will be happening! I'l try and keep it under 5 minutes, short punchy edits etc
Can you help me
When you want to write a song we start from lyrics or what ??
조 현오 some people do, but I don’t think I’ve ever started a song with lyrics. It varies, sometimes a song from a beat, a chord progression or a hook, bass line, it really varies!
Heart Shaker is my favorite Twice song
Yeah def have to agree with you on that one! I think it was my most played song of last year on Spotify!!
Please ,please ,please..do.some kpop production tutoriaals..I want to.make kpop so baaad🙏🏼 please sir
Hey dude check my latest upload! :)
Bro how it's music tunes are so creative
Video at 5:45?
Bubble Pop / HyunA
I want to learn because i want to start making music
0:30 yes please
We're now one year later :) Have any of those songs been released now?
haha it is! nope, no cuts yet! im learning its even longer than i anticipated when i did this video originally! ive getting more holds which is good and went on a J/K-Pop songwriting camp last week, think my name is getting out there but nothing yet! hope i can get there soon! check in with me next year haha
AZODi All the luck in the world to you! You’re super talented! 😁
@@MissEMIxox thanks so much!! i appreciate it!! hopefully soon hey :)
What music producing software do you use?
Great information thanks. I am 76 years old and wrote a KPOP song in 2009 , like TARA.. Lovey Dovey, see it on my facebook page.
I also used to like Japan then I heard One K Pop song then I fell into the k pop rabbit hole
for sure gacha! Jpop was much more popular here and we had the influence from the japanese composers in film and gaming. once Kpop blew up here i never looked back really!
@@AZODi I didn't think a youtuber that is (at least somewhat) would respond also I am a fellow producer I don't produce k pop I produce a lot of other stuff
Ozone being mentioned in a kpop video next to BTS, PSY and others is so funny to me for some reason (I'm Romanian)

tvxq literally saved the kpop music industry who paved the way huh
They did!! Any idea why it was those guys? Did they break down boundaries and create innovative work for that time?

I’m pretty sure that this is EXO preforming GROWL

Ella- Marie omg thank you
ari_ zezo actually i was wrong, but check them out too. It’s actually 24k preforming “hey you” in a dance practice.
Can you do pinoy pop like sb19 dm me were starting doing some new group
Theese ones are not like BTS songs or smth, if u know what i mean
its awesome right?!?! great to hear it!

I love Kpop but my first love will always be Jpop. Namie Amuro, Utada Hikaru, Nakashima Mika, Shiina Ringo etc... and many more . Cheers.

Bts truthfully paved the way to kpop in the world ! I discovered kpop actually in 2014 because of Boy in Luv ... I heard Gagnam Style before but i definetely didn't like it at all... But when a friend randomly played a kpop playlist and i heard Boy in Luv i liked it sosososo much lol 😅💜 then i started to stan them, and look at me now !!After years i still stan this kings and i would never believe that they would ever be this famous 😃 I'm so so proud of them !!!😍😍💜💜💜

Good to know! Yeah BTS have definitely brought a new wave over to the West! I read an article the other day stating BTS help grew the most recent Hallyu wave to 90 million fans worldwide! I'm SO excited for the future of Kpop and Hallyu!
