Really awesome to be able to see more of the production teams SM Ent. works with, especially considering most, if not all of the title/promotional tracks that their artists have been putting out in recent years have been impeccable in terms of production. 90s R&B is right up my alley, so big thanks to The Stereotypes for putting together such a good track. Red Velvet executed it really well.

They’ve expressed in words what I’ve always thought for almost a decade about kpop but couldn’t find the right words or people just couldn’t understand. Kpop is way more about musicality and the melody (which is what american pop used to be based on in the earlier 2010s but the trend changed). That musicality is what I value a lot in music so that’s why I enjoy kpop so much. Good melodies really satisfy me and that’s one of the biggest points of my criteria that I have when I listen and pick music I enjoy. They really hit the nail on the head. I hope we can see more kpop production videos on this channel because there are a lot of western producers working in that industry.
Yeah, actually, a british producer and singer, Charli Taft, is really talented and made amazing R'N'B songs for Red Velvet like "Automatic" and "Look" for example ! 🎶
They basically clarified just what exactly it is that makes K-Pop so much more interesting than American pop music for many people: it's the musicality--the more interesting melodies and more complex harmonic structures and progressions, unconventional song structure, blending of different genres, etc. American pop music used to have those qualities in the past, but in the past couple of decades it's been dumbed down so much and we almost never hear the same level of musicality anymore here that's on the same level as current K-Pop.
i mean yea sure you dont hear those type of music on american radio stations anymore but theres still a lot of lesser known american/western artist that has been doing exactly that
They produced "Attaboy" and "Kingdom Come" too! Their production credits are beautiful. They should be very proud of themselves! They've created a lot gems throughout their career! :)
The guy at 3:25 needs to give himself more credit. The addition of the pad sends the song above and beyond in my opinion, it really brought the track together. I’m more of a casual kpop listener, but the R&B influence on the song drew me in and it’s one of my favorites.
Who would actually dislike this? The song is crazy good. The composers are amazingly talented. And Red Velvet just captivates you with their performance, visuals and vocals!
This is brilliant. You know, I've noticed Western producers always say that Kpop is very musical and that you can experiment much more when producing a Kpop song. Even in that Rolling Stone article about Western producers who worked with BTS, they often mentioned that. Interesting. Since kpop companies work a lot with American/Western producers, I hope to see more Deconstructed videos like this.
SexyPornStar I think it helps that Hanguk can easily blend to any melody. You can break down the words and scramble it around and it will still make great lyrics. So yeah, producers are given alot of freedom to roam any possibility with their sounds.
Yo Han is that so? Interesting, i'm always thinking maybe hangul is the most flexibel language to put into lyrics in any song genre. Rap, check, ballad, check, r&b, check
Fatma yeah you're right on that. Also like think of every nursery rhyme, choir song, or famous song, there's a Korean version for it. I mean I guess it applies to any language too. But they sometimes don't match as well as Hanguk
I love red velvet because their music is so diverse and everything is new. Sm does a really good job with them, not sticking to one thing and giving them dark meanings. And even if they don't make their own music, they still sing in a ton of songs made just for them and I love that. This group and the team working with them are just amazing. They have really hyper jumpy songs and then slow jazz sexy songs and a mix of in between and I just can't get enough
Ji Rim Sung me too! i dont even like rv before but because of this song i grew to like them. anyone could fight me with this but i think bad boy had to be the best music sm have got to produce really interesting music
Especially when 99% of this is western inspired. It's there but it's very hard to find in the pop scheme, when in kpop you can find a pretty interesting sound with ease.
I love how they said they were allowed to play with the sound. I didn’t like kpop before, but recently it took hold of me and now won’t let go. Kpop is both familiar and unique, and letting them play with the music lets them come up with these songs that burrow in and refuse to come out. I think this song and other kpop songs have rewired my brain. Haha
As a musician I would love to hear more from Kpop producers and how they come up with their instrumentation. They are the unsung heroes of the industry. You can have the most talented group who can sing, dance, and charisma you can see from space--but their success heavily relies on choosing a producer who knows what they're doing.
so true! i started becoming a red velvet fan after watching this video bcs i saw how unique RV's sound is. but yeah, the unsung heroes are the Producers TT
i love how many additions were added just from one bro fooling around, another bro listening in and going “yo thats dope” and bro one being like “:) ok i’ll keep it”
I’d like to take a minute to honestly think this crew for making one of my favorite Red Velvet songs ever. The beat was something so different from what I’m used to with them, but I loved it as soon as I heard it. It was really cool to see what goes on behind the scenes in making this song!
these producers are really good bad boy of red velvet is a good mix of 90s with the modern. they literally started a trend of a type of music in korea because of the success of bad boy now more companies in sk are aiming for this type of music.
This was so insightful and enjoyable to watch. The Stereotypes did an absolutely amazing job. 90's R&B works so well for K-pop particularly due to how important vocal harmonies are for groups.
It's a great advantage to have a huge palette to work with, as a producer many people will ask you for certain things, watch and observing all of them would give you a great advantage!
Bad Boy made me stan Red Velvet instantly (the song and RV’s vocals are a perfect combination). Kingdom Come is a god tier RV bside. Hoping they will produce more R&B songs for Red Velvet. 🙏
it's the other way around for me. 😊 Kingdom Come made me stan Red Velvet. I prefer it over Bad Boy since i like old school R&B more. Bad Boy is more of a modern R&B pop. i like both songs tho. Kingdom Come is my fave, Bad Boy comes at a close second 💖💛💙💚💜 actually these guys produced both Bad Boy and Kingdom Come ❤
s k c yep. I like Kingdom Come more than Bad Boy, too. Just among the popular title tracks that i listened to when i first came across red velvet, it was Bad Boy that really made me want to listen to more of their discography and thanks to that, i found gems like Kingdom Come hehe. Their r&b velvet side really is my favorite
Honorable mentions are also Wonder Girls' "Reboot", EXID's "Eclipse" and "Full Moon" EPs, EXO's "Exodus", SHINee's "1of1", literally every solo mini album from members of SHINee and SNSD, Luna's "Free Somebody", most (if not all) of f(x)'s albums, BigBang's "Alive", BTS's "HYYH" albums, etc. etc. And that's not even counting Japanese albums/ releases. There are so many quality kpop albums tbh. Every time I think I've heard the best I hear another great one. So many that I know I'm leaving out a bunch of albums in my honorable mentions but those were the first to come to mind lol. Not going to lie, like 5 years ago a majority of kpop albums had killer singles but lackluster filler tracks rounding out their albums. It got to the point where the only full albums I bothered listening to were of the three I considered myself a hardcore fan of and that was only because I had the CD (there were exceptions, of course. I recall listening to a lot of Wonder Girls and SHINee's b-side tracks). Now not only do companies put more money, thought, and time into composing cohesive albums in order to better appeal to fans and the public alike; but a lot of older idols have more creative freedom and thus are able to helm group and/ or solo projects to craft a sound more precise and to their own taste. Good examples being the SM solo efforts Tiffany (of SNSD) and Taemin (of SHINee). Due to their label acknowledging respected standing in the industry Tiffany was able to create the 80s synth r&b pop album that was inspired by music she grew up listening to and reminded her of her home state of California, and Taemin was able to create dance based music with incredible production value that helped to better show off his unique dance abilities and present himself in the light of pop stars like Michael Jackson who he often cites as a major influence on him. And beyond that, newer idol groups in general are able to craft distinct sounds due to labels being more lenient in letting them produce and write tracks. Say what you will about Pristin's title singles but their b-sides, all of which are either written or co-produced (or both) by the girls, are all versatile and reflective of themselves as a unit and helps to set them apart. Same goes for their label-mates Seventeen (whose albums are very well done yet very consistent and on-brand). And even when the idols don't have too much control companies are now hiring foreign producers to write for them in-house, allowing the producers to make and release music they may have felt wouldn't have fit into another market. While the western pop scene seems to be stagnant at the moment with all of the more exciting and experimental pop artists keeping to their online underground scene, the Korean pop scene is getting better and more diverse. We're able to have a group like Twice release a solid album (Twicestagram) full of unabashed upbeat tracks and exciting glossy production, NCT release an experimental hip hop album (NCT 2018), and Red Velvet drop a straight up r&b album that fuses newer and more experimental 'soundcloud' sounds as well as classic 90s r&b and more jumpy kpop production (Perfect Velvet). That's not even getting into the recent releases from groups of smaller companies. While the rise of kpop has begun to pick up a bit more steam thus leading the fan landscape being more toxic than ever before, at least we're getting great music as a result of it. tl;dr Don't worry about reading any of this. It's late at night and I'm pretty sure I've written all of this half asleep. Oh well.
And this is WHY Bad Boy by Red Velvet is the best kpop song in 2018 so far, from my 5 goddesses to 4 geniuses that produce this freaking sick dope beat, the dance the lyrics the visuals, Red Velvet save the kpop in 2018 and it was only January 29th when it was released. Thank you Red Velvet, Thank you SM and Thank you The Stereotypes, for such an amazing song I love it and I repeat the song every single day. Like I said BEST KPOP SONG OF 2018!!! fight me about it.
ugh i LOVE hearing the "backbone" of the music industry that isn't really heard or deeply discussed all the time!! they made an AMAZING song and red velvet is such a great group that deserves so much recognition!!
Dangg this is dope...Waitt arent they the one making the glorious "kingdom come"..it would be nice if they deconstructed that song too..but that one is just a bside..but if can, it will be pretty dope!
"Kingdom Come" is a Godsend blessing straight from heaven. I still love hearing the instrument teaser for it cuz that bass line + kick hits too good. Ahh i would love to hear insight on the making + inspiration behind it.
Guys please check out other Red Velvet's songs. Their discography is great, I mean they are the first Girl group to have topped the Billboard Album Chart 4 times.
I still remember listening to Bad Boy for the first time, I was INSTANTLY hooked. I can't find a sound like that in the states. These guys are partially responsible for getting me into Kpop. Thanks a ton, y'all.

They usually do a lot more bubble gum pop songs though compared to rnb which is probably why bad boy stood out for me as an amazing song

I wonder what they thought when they saw the MV and Red Velvet performing their creation
loli yeah same like what was their initial reaction
loli would be nice to see their reaction🤔
"We made music for legends"
And what they feel when it hit 100m views the fastes among all red velvet songs "0"?
They were probably debating who they thought was the most beautiful since they probably don't know what a 'bias' is.
1:53 the moment that changed history
That ironic moment when this song is one of the two first kpop songs played legally in North Korea.
+Aayisha Tabassum Yes and the fact that the chorus is "Bad Boy Down" is really ironic.
YESSSSSS RED VELVET THEY KILLED THIS SONG THANKS FOR MAKING IT
Who would actually dislike this? The song is crazy good. The composers are amazingly talented. And Red Velvet just captivates you with their performance, visuals and vocals!
This style suits Red Velvet SO MUCH!! Seriously it’s like The Stereotypes found their match and Red Velvet too
I wish we could bring 90s R&B back and they did it with Red Velvey
Red Velvet This group is so versatile they can go to slow 90's rnb funk "Look" to hip hop Rnb "Bad Boy"🎶😍👌
Ikr the producers are extremely talented.
SexyPornStar please link that BTS article to me!!
WIsh they did a Deconstructed for Kingdom Come. One of the best b-sides EVER released tbh. The vocals, the harmonies, the music, just all genius!
That whole album is amazing.
Yes!! That song is perfection!
It's been a year now. Make another DECONSTRUCTED for Psycho!
It's been half of the year but still Bad boy is my jam
Time-flies soo fast :)
indeed soty
deym! same here!
Samee
Ji Rim Sung me too! i dont even like rv before but because of this song i grew to like them. anyone could fight me with this but i think bad boy had to be the best music sm have got to produce really interesting music
aw dang i wanted to know at what point they decided to put in the "ooh ooh" and the sound of clicking heels and sirens
wanderlust ëlly the clicking heels in the song are the worst
They don't sound bad, really the little details, weird sounds, give the song its uniqueness
They can't give away everything. It would be like KFC giving away their 11 herbs and spices
running away you can barely hear it with the lyrics, I think it’s nice
those were probably added by the SM producers
i really wish western music the kind of melodies the kpop industry thrive off.
Especially when 99% of this is western inspired. It's there but it's very hard to find in the pop scheme, when in kpop you can find a pretty interesting sound with ease.
Um we already did that with the 70s,80s,90s y'all must forgot kpop is 90% western influenced.
there is western music like this, you just gotta look for it. obviously wont be in mainstream but theres a lot of music like this
Uzi?
@@AreYouFNQRAZII The Uzi and Bad Boy mix on soundcloud goes hard af
I NEVER thought we'd see kpop on Genius. The genre has really come so far, as a long time kpop fan I'm so proud!! also bad boy is THAT song
this was VERY detailed......enjoyed this one alot
one of rv’s best song on one of the best series im so happy!!!
"Bad Boy" is my fave Kpop song. Kudos to these guys for the dope track
i love how many additions were added just from one bro fooling around, another bro listening in and going “yo thats dope” and bro one being like “:) ok i’ll keep it”
who dat who dat who dat boy
I’d like to take a minute to honestly think this crew for making one of my favorite Red Velvet songs ever. The beat was something so different from what I’m used to with them, but I loved it as soon as I heard it. It was really cool to see what goes on behind the scenes in making this song!
Wow this was amazing, and red velvet has the best music out there, their vocals are insane and they are beautiful ladys !!!!
EZB fr fr
I hope Stereotypes create another bop again in red velvet
Great producer+great performer=song of the century
That's right!
these producers are really good bad boy of red velvet is a good mix of 90s with the modern. they literally started a trend of a type of music in korea because of the success of bad boy now more companies in sk are aiming for this type of music.
I thank these people for the bop of 2018
This was so insightful and enjoyable to watch. The Stereotypes did an absolutely amazing job. 90's R&B works so well for K-pop particularly due to how important vocal harmonies are for groups.
Do check out Red Velvet’s side tracks, “Kingdom Come” & “Attaboy”! Produced by them too! :)
This whole group of producers is so wholesome and supportive of one another's talents. That kind of energy creates the best collaborations.
bad boy made me become a red velvet fan :) thanks to these guys :) hope they can work again with red velvet
i just live for so many of rv's songs because they truly stand out to me among a lot of pop songs theyre just so varied and interesting
Bad Boy is 2018's BOP. Hearing it in headphones is heaven in my ears
Bad Boy is definitely my favorite Red Velvet comeback. The song, mv, choreo, outfits, everything is perfection.
no wonder why this song end up to the top 100 best song 2018 billboard version... red velvet's bad boy such a masterpiece!!
I LOVE THUS, bad boy was on repeat for months so I’m so glad these wonderful men were able to create a masterpiece :’))
I don't listen to this type of music or produce it, but I watch everyone to help me grow as a producer
you're gonna prosper, i hope your evolution of producing improves
same and tbh i fw this song
Appreciate the honesty..
That's how u learn bro i'm a trap producer and i'm here lok
It's a great advantage to have a huge palette to work with, as a producer many people will ask you for certain things, watch and observing all of them would give you a great advantage!
it's so nice to finally can see the faces behind the names we always see in our album credit. thank you so much for making awesome songs!
one of the best songs in kpop to date! Thanks for giving Red Velvet this iconic song!!
Bad Boy made me stan Red Velvet instantly (the song and RV’s vocals are a perfect combination). Kingdom Come is a god tier RV bside. Hoping they will produce more R&B songs for Red Velvet. 🙏
it's the other way around for me. 😊
Kingdom Come made me stan Red Velvet. I prefer it over Bad Boy since i like old school R&B more. Bad Boy is more of a modern R&B pop.
i like both songs tho. Kingdom Come is my fave, Bad Boy comes at a close second 💖💛💙💚💜
actually these guys produced both Bad Boy and Kingdom Come ❤
This was really interesting. As a fan of 90s and early 2000s R&B I like that kpop groups and soloists continue to keep the genre alive.
Their name is surprisingly accurate
listen to 'the perfect red velvet' is an awesome work and the best album of red velvet and kpop in general
Agree
Perfect Velvet is up there but there are so many great kpop albums out there.
+aiken relkins I agree. VIXX's Conception Ker album and "EAU DE VIXX"'s album, "NCT 2018" also.
Oh well.
aiken relkins OMG YOUR WORDS DESERVE A GRAMMY. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
The production on this is incredible. Can see why it has such cross over appeal and why it’s popular with the newer fans.
In 2023 still obsessed with this song. So thank you bros
Finally some kpop on here
One thing that stands out to me with Kpop is the beats tbh so it’s sick to see the deconstruction on here
And this is WHY Bad Boy by Red Velvet is the best kpop song in 2018 so far, from my 5 goddesses to 4 geniuses that produce this freaking sick dope beat, the dance the lyrics the visuals, Red Velvet save the kpop in 2018 and it was only January 29th when it was released.
OMG no wonder why Bad Boy - RV became one of my fave songs. It's just soo good and catchy. Definitely my only fave song from Korean girlband
sm really does work with really good producers wow
Dangg this is dope...Waitt arent they the one making the glorious "kingdom come"..it would be nice if they deconstructed that song too..but that one is just a bside..but if can, it will be pretty dope!
deeya at the moment YESSS!!!!! They should deconstruct that too!
Kingdom Come is definitely dope though I'm partial to I Just. Though the simple production probably doesn't warrant a deconstruction.
'i just' was produced by hitchhiker tho. the aluminium foil man..XD
"Kingdom Come" is a Godsend blessing straight from heaven. I still love hearing the instrument teaser for it cuz that bass line + kick hits too good. Ahh i would love to hear insight on the making + inspiration behind it.
I wanna hear Attaboy. It's underrated honestly.
Guys please check out other Red Velvet's songs. Their discography is great, I mean they are the first Girl group to have topped the Billboard Album Chart 4 times.
Pham Huy rip TSM
Team solo Mid
TEAM SODA MIIIIID
Pham Huy team solo myth
They will have a comeback soon😁
I still remember listening to Bad Boy for the first time, I was INSTANTLY hooked. I can't find a sound like that in the states. These guys are partially responsible for getting me into Kpop. Thanks a ton, y'all.
This is one of THE greatest songs in Kpop, in my opinion. Great job, Stereotypes
