Half way through the video, and i have to agree! although i think if someone had absolutely no idea what to listen for, their ears wouldnt pick up whats being described to them as quickly. But that may just be me watching everything at double speed or higher loll
@@dimasf.c4373 there’s a clear difference to “Bohemian Rhapsody effect” and O.O. Bohemian Rhapsody has beats that shouldn’t go together but has a clear build up and ending while O.O just randomly throws you into a new beat without any build up.
O.O is an example of the effect not working well. I’d rather be “bored” by the songs I love than be thrown in a rollercoaster 50 times over just to feel sick
as a kpop stan, ive always knew IGAB was the blueprint for experimenting in producing, and even producing in general. i could just feel it in this song, not even with other telling me me. Now that i've grown and taken a music theory class and understand what goes into making a song + this awesome explanation, IGAB has become even more impactful imo. i am not afraid to say it is one of my favorite songs in both a technical and literal sense!
what made IGAB even more impressive is that the genre changes in IGAB makes sense because it's connected to the lyrics! IGAB lyrics is like a convo between a girl who just started dating with her friends. the lyrics changed pov and topics several times AND it's timed with the genre changes
@@filialjade1144 thats why it sounded like 2 songs mashed together. also, IGAB has the best last chorus of kpop, two harmonized choruses with some verses sprinkled in it.
I love your mashups and mv editing too! I can see why you like this the creator rlly pays attn to the audio in the mv making it sound like a giant mashup almost making good transition interesting like slow down n fades
when you were explaining the Yg party chorus, a lightbulb went off in my head and it was like every yg song i've ever heard simultaneously started playing in my head, especially bling bling for some reason lol
When IGAB came out, I remember reading that this song has just been hiding in SM’s vault for years and they didn’t release it yet because they wanted the girls to be ready. I think Zimzalabim has also been hiding in SM’s vault until RV released it. Point is, SM I think makes sure that when they release these experimental songs, it’s well-polished and would fit the group. This is probably why the experimental concept works for their artists.
Zimzalabim is actually a follow up song for IGAB. I Mean that song was made after IGAB, and yeah RV said the song has been there for years, and SM waited for RV to be ready for that song.
Also for Zimzalabim, SM waited for Wendy to pull off the Bridge of the song. She was scared of the high-note and one of the rare times we heard her voice cracks during a live.
Shinee has already talked about the music library they have and how certain songs sit there for a long time, and since we know that it's really interesting how NCT's Superhuman sounds as if it was intended to be a Shinee song when it was originally written - while Don't Call Me could easily be an NCT song. Even if that's not true and they were created for their groups specifically in reality, you can't tell me Superhuman & Don't Call Me couldn't easily be interchanged between the groups.
@@mantaren don't call me was originally for BoA's 20th year debut special! lee soo man presented the song yet she rejected it and Minho asked for it to be a shinee song. I do agree with how dcm could be an nct title based of it's hip hop influence, while superhuman sounds so.. shinee. It's one of Key's favorite nct songs too
I’ve never seen better editing from a UA-camr… how did this video make me want to listen to every single song in here like each transition brought an immense amount of excitement it’s crazy 😭
Eternally is the biggest plot twist song ever but it is done so beautifully. It literally like heaven and hell but sounds so good . Also the lyrics is so beautifully dark. TXT is one of the few artist who always have really good lyrics. It's almost feels like those lyrics are telling us a story or trying to talk to us.
eternally is truly a hidden gem. this song is way TOO good. It's like going from a dream to a nightmare over and over... this song never fail to make me get goosebumps.
@@luisamesquita5122 coz it's really like u are nearing to the top of the mountain, pushing the big boulder, and then a few minutes later you're now at the bottom once again and have to push it up till eternity
Speaking of Bo Rhap effect, I Got A Boy by SNSD is by far one of my favorite kpop songs of all time, soecifically for this reason, and I also believe it is one of the best kpop songs ever composed. One reason that it's so well composed is because of the TRANSITIONS from one section to another. Too many experimental songs in kpop are just straight-up bastardizations of music. They just throw the different sections together and hope people are intrigued enough to keep listening. But IGAB not only slows down or speeds up the drums before a change, it also has *the members themselves* ANNOUNCE the tempo change as part of the chorus! Brilliance!
And the thing is musically there was something that connected each section with the rest of the song. And vocal melody wise they stayed in the same scale throughout the song which also helped with the section, beat and style changes. It was basically one song sung in edm, rnb, rock etc. versions
It feels more cohesive and the ending of the song feels like a good resolution (is that the right word?) that ties it all together by referring back to previous choruses/verses.
EXACTLY!!! Too many “experimental” songs nowadays just straight up mash things tgt without effort to glue them - be it thru instrumentals or vocals (which I Got a Boy both used) It’s also why ppl hated O.O cuz there were no transitions at all. The producers even gave an instrumental break to perhaps allow the group to “announce” a beat change like SNSD did but instead someone else (or maybe JYP) decided it’s not necessary and ignore that golden opportunity And the fact that I Got a Boy’s different sections can come tgt at the end shows that music theory wise, those different parts actually have underlying similarities whether thru the scales used or the vocal onomatopoeias~~~ experimental songs nowadays cant even do that - the only one that even comes close is Yeppi Yeppi (which doesn’t even feature an ending w all sections tgt but was glued tgt very well)
That unexpected after-credits scene was awesome! The 'Bohemian Rhapsody' describes IGAB so well. It's what I like about Kpop so much, the often unexpected, weird changes in the rhythms. Missed that the last 2 years with a few exceptions, I was afraid in general Kpop became more mainstream/simpler to get a more Western audience, but songs like Eleven and O.O thankfully proved me wrong. Grats for making this video, extremely well edited!
Let's just say, SM has the most experimental songs. Putting all those genres together and boom, you got IGAB. And thanks to this video, I'm gonna put all the songs to my playlist.
2:21 I can totally agree with the "yg party chorus" cause in blackpink song there is also the "yg party chorus" and I actually enjoyed them. I loved the jikjin one so much
I actually feel like Sm are the best in doing experimental music that you love or hate. It throws you off, it's really weird, makes you lost for the first time you hear it, but it's so fucking cool too, if you like it you'll become addicted really quickly. While Big Hit doesn't really make experimental music, their music is really comfortable and pleasant to listen to, so even Shadow and Eternally don't exactly throw you off. They catch you off guard, yes, but you still feel like this is the same song. And I think people who make it work in both are geniuses, and I love that you can clearly differentiate their styles even if you are not exactly a music nerd
Even in their early days SM had always been the most experimental one, For example Rising sun by TVXQ. So maybe the reason why SM does it so well is because they have the most experience in that field.
You absolutely nailed it. SM songs, even if experimental, feel way more organic than all the other companies, only exception made for Billlie from Mystic Story.
Sure SM sometimes sucks at the way they manage their artists(coming from an exol myself) but damn i can't deny their passion in music aspect and how creative every ideas from small detail concepts to producing songs that fans, non fans or even any professionals in the industry to like, respect and be in awe.
Zimzalabim literally changed my perspective on so many aspects of music in general. It’s bold, weird, loud and very addicting. I remember how confused yet excited I was when it finally dropped, how speechless it left me. It’s one of my favorite RV songs to this day, because of our experimental and unique it is
IGAB is such a masterpiece! I remember back then, we were supposed to perform a medley/mashup of multiple songs for our high school cultural festival(?), but cheated out way through it by just performing this one song ahahaha
I'm so glad you mentioned Eternally. People often stop at title tracks ignoring the rest but I think TxT has one of the best discography I ever listened to and Eternally is a true masterpiece.
I like how you didn't shit on O.O because though I hated it at first, it grew on me a lot and it's acc a good song that just sounds different lol. Would it better if they made 2 songs instead of combining em? Maybe but it's a bop to me.
You started liking it because you listened to it i mena its ok if you like it but that song doesn't deserve to be on this list its chaotic and confusing its not good example of mix or bohemian rhapsody effect if you try yo understand for example aespa do it very subtly song is ctachy get stuck in your head and its a song most importantly because a song is repetition of certain melodies tunes not just some bunch of tunes put together as in o.o tbh i think their experiment didn't work out well but becaus they put moeny in mv and other stuff it still got popular but i think they could have done better for debut and kt doenst even get stuck innyour head even after 10 listens i still dont re,eber it and even after listening to it in this video i already forgot it and yk what is playing my head eternally and next level this is where it make sthe difference
Also, the creator can add whatever song they like here. It’s their channel, their video. Seriously, why do ppl trash talk ppl who like O.O? ‘You like the song only because you listened to it so many times’ No Samantha. I simply like it. Yes I like a bad, experimental song. They’re no Girls Generation, no Aespa either. I think we all know that. Leave me alone. I actually loved it on the first listen and it’s simply tiring to listen to all of the Internet strangers go to the depths of hell and back to sh!t on the song.
@@__R20 same, i liked it since the first time i listened to it and honestly im tired of people trash talking it like its a bad song. Its catchy, it has a good choreography and their voices are great so overall a good debut.
Eternally is the crown jewel of txt's discography, in my opinion, and a masterclass in the so-called bohemian rhapsody effect in k-pop. The tonal shifts from dark to heavenly are so masterfully done, and culminates perfectly into the last iteration of the chorus, making it even more gripping and impactful.
TxT's discography is insane, it's hard to find a skip, and Eternally is the real masterpiece. Nap of a star too, in my opinion, especially in the mv version both the song and the video create a beautiful short film.
I rarely like these types of songs, but eternally is just too pretty to be ignored. Both the song and the mv is so hauntingly beautiful. It's like I'm going through some fantasy, thriller/mystery short film. I'm legit scared, heartbroken, and mesmerized at the same time over this masterpiece. The song is something that you can't see anywhere else, its irreplaceable.
I feel the same as you - I think it’s because Eternally has a softness to some of the sections that most other songs of this sort doesn’t. It’s not loud and in your face. It’s gentle and heavenly, and that makes the transition spookier to me

IGAB is literally the granddaddy of the "bohemian rhapsody" effect and always will be. The song was like patched from different parts of different songs but created a perfectly functional new song and I fell for it right at the first time instead of taking a while like Next Level - which has the same messy structure like IGAB. 2nd kpop generation is really something extraordinary and magical.
SM songs back from 2nd gen is so phenomenal. We experienced weird beat and key changes but everyone enjoys it and no one complains. SM still holds the beat changing title till now
yeah, like I GOT A BOY was the first kpop song I listened and I liked it at first listen, some of the newer "bohemian rhapsody"-ish songs made me want to skip them after listening it for a few seconds, and listening to the full song didn't change my mind.
Basically, SM keeps on experimenting on their artists' songs lately like putting another song in a song and having different genres especially in bridges. Other examples to this are EXO's MAMA (Rock Bridge), Tempo (rap verses, main bridge and Acapella bridge), and Obsession (RNB bridges never fail to amaze me), SUJU's Mr Simple (Dance Break after 2nd chorus, rap bridge then another singing bridge). It's really difficult to explain in details because there are lots of things going on with their songs haha. Nonetheless, I think SM is the most experimental company in songs. It doesn't have that one style or identity, but it gives off that "SM" trademark in their songs once you listened to it. Great video. I like the analysis.
it's not a ground-breaking discovery, but one little detail that i love about IGAB that i think still doesn't get enough attention is the fact that jessica isn't just bringing us back to 140BPM, she's also bringing us back to the actual point of *1:40** in the song.* IGAB might sound like random mish-mash upon first listen, but after picking it apart and noticing details like that you start to understand exactly how much love and care was put into that song. i normally have trouble sitting through a song that's 4:30 but IGAB switches things up so often and so well that every listen is enjoyable. it really _is_ kpop's bohemian rhapsody. and as everyone else has said, this video is super well-made! good job!! i would love to see more videos covering big topics like this (and your anti-drop videos) and i'd also be interested in videos analyzing specific songs as well to understand what makes them work. i can't wait for the next vid!!
O.O might sound like random mish-mash upon first listen, but after picking it apart and noticing details like that you start to understand exactly how much love and care was put into that song.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the editing of this video. The transitions between each of the songs were practically seamless even though they were going from the middle of one to a random part of another.
I think the biggest issue with the Nmixx song is that it doesn’t have a cohesive theme. Like all the other songs might have different tempos and keys, but it’s thematically the same song and there’s just enough pattern to make it work and for a listener to recognise it as part of the same work. Nmixx’s song is like opening a novel only to find that 40 pages in the middle are from a different book. Like musically the story doesn’t make sense idk but with enough listening you can make yourself anticipate the change and not hate it lol
yeah but it was meant to make everyone hate it. As much as we all hate jype, they aren't stupid. They know how to make DEBUTS. Ones that are iconic and everyone talks about. This one is no different. Yeah maybe it was talked about for not a good reason, but nobody liked the song enough to even try to BEGIN to understand why it was this way. The whole song basically says the song was a teaser for what's to come more from them, and after their first comeback everyone is going to say "omg why wasn't this their debut" and stan them. That's pure marketing strategy right there.. good on them... nmixx is so talented, don't give up on them yet
Ppl will find anything to hate it lmao either try listening w/o the mv or with it n read the lyrics it makes the an impact using the visual switches simultaneously with the genre switch the very drastic dark n colorful vibes meant to shock O.O hence why the title is that emoticon
I’d use the analogy of a DJ switching up from one genre dark to upbeat one out of nowhere then doin it again lol it works have I seen thier performances they wear one outfit throughout n u won’t feel it’s that out of place not like it was a sad song n becomes cheerful loll can see the sudden surprise like for sugar song it becomes darker I think o.o def got their own unique concept mixing drastic genre like that the mv shows two worlds While others keep it cohesive
@@jonathanlozano5158 but then this low ball tactic is just a bit...off lol like ofc the next song is gonna be better since the first one was at this situation lol
11:09 (Eternally) for those who are interested: The shifts "feel" like a tempo change because the dreamy chorus is in 3/4 and the dark-sounding verse is in 4/4
it's actually more like the chorus is in 3/4 but the shift is in 6/8, with the 8th note being the same tempo throughout. it's a signature change, not an actual tempo change. it just feels that way because of the subdivision in the drums.
SM bridges are always SM Signature to flex their vocalists. I think after IGAB, most freshman did that FX, Red Velvet, etc did it in their debut and so on. YG Party Anthems are such a mood booster, I’m surprised some ppl didn’t know that was a thing with YG from Big Bang & 2ne1 to Blackpink & now Treasure.
Also i just realized that in the beginning of igab, the lyrics are talking about what the other girls are thinking about her, but then when the tempo changes and “chorus 2” happens, the lyrics switch to the girls perspective and what she thinks about the guy she is dating. And when tiffany does her bridge at 14:06, the tempo slows down and talks about how the she is angry and upset at the guy, then reverting back to the previous beat and talking about how great he is. Damn this song is genius with its lyrics AND design. I really recommend listening to this and reading the lyrics because im so bad at explaining.
Correct me if I'm wrong but...IGAB has a similar more structure to some theatre musicals than pop songs. If you break it down into sung lines by characters/members within GG instead of structure of verse-prechorus-chorus then added the synthesis of the grand ending wherein they sing their components on top of one another...the structure reminds me of "One Day" in Le Miserables
Interesting since the lyrics itself is like a conversation between a girl and her girlfriends. The first verse is like a conversation between girls and into the second verse till the end, it’s the girl who got the boy’s (lol) POV. And even through the girl’s POV it’s a story of how she fell in love with everything, then the first bridge (taeny) is like her getting mad at the boy then sica’s bridge is acknowledging that there will be fights and stuff in relationships and they’re gonna make it through. It’s a whole story
@@user-nd5lg2rj2j I don't think musicals are restricted to a certain set of instruments. Hamilton fused a lot of synth sound but it's still a musical nonetheless :)
IGAB is pleasantly weird and perfectly mess structured. Also Jungsis is the opener of the best bridges in KPOP. Not forget that their sibling (Giselle) also the opener of the whole another song in Next Level with "Naevis, Calling!"
I still feel like IGAB is weird and bop at the same time. It's not my favorite song of snsd but I kept singing it, dance it and watch it so MANY times more than my most favorite song from snsd. Idk have weird relationship with igab and I love it
Seeing IGAB laid out like that is insane. The more recent songs tend to do what f(x) did and throw a whole new song/section in but GG introduced new sections but also managed to carry them throughout the song and this is the creativity and cohesiveness that I love
I was thinking of Eternally throughout the entire Bohemian Rhapsody section and I’m so glad it was included. I think Tortoise & the Hare by Stray Kids may also count? I watched ReactToTheK talk about the same tempo thing with Tortoise & the Hare, where the tempo isn’t changing but the subdivisions are, so from section to section it feels like it’s speeding up or slowing down when the tempo itself is staying consistent
I got a boy is simply insane. I realized a while back but you opened my eyes with how they play the new choruses over previous ones and it's even more insane. The kind of song where if you don't like kpop / know stuff about music you brush it off, but if you study production/ arrangement you realize how good it is
I always thought the tempo change in aespa’s Next Level could be a different song meshed into the original mix. But it made the song whole. Plus the delivery is impeccable.
11:29 YES PLEASE DO ETERNALLY WHOLE EXPLANATION I REALLY NEED IT 11:03 Eternally is the most beautifully scariest song that i have ever heard like I’m REALLY experiencing going to heaven and hell back and forth, your dreams and nightmares flash in seconds. remember when i first heard the song i’m so freaking confused but in a good way. So jealous of ppl who going to listen it for the first time really, i’m speechless and my jaw dropped. Everytime i heard it i feel goosebumps and chills to the bone. As moa, I’m really have so much PRIDE and honored for eternally is the ‘bohemian rhapsody’ of kpop along with the queen boss IGAB!
12:12 ugh it rlly is, I think eternally is the only song I like where there are two genres in one, it just works so well and it fits perfectly with the story aswell!
God I just love your channel so much. You are so intelligent and HONEST with the information you give and your critiques. Do you study music/have studied music before? I'm a trained instrumentalist and vocalist, and have been performing in musicals and concerts for a large part of my life. Your videos always bring a sense of security to me that says, "No, not every kpop fan has 0% idea what they're talking about." I trust your knowledge enough that even if I disagree with something in a video of yours, I'll know that your opinion will come from a place of wisdom. Edit: also the way you edit your videos is just 😫❤😫❤😫❤😫❤😫❤
I’m so glad you spoke about the YG party chorus every group gets. Everyone has probably overheard them, and lots of them even feel it is unnecessary in some songs but YG does that the best. There is no tension made most of the time, the bridge only consists of heavenly vocals BUT you get the tension when you’re listening to the dance break or the end. I love their structure personally and for songs like Killing me (ikon) and Soso (winner) I am shocked as to how they make such gloomy sounding songs escalate to so much thrill. No change in the mood of the lyrics, there’s only change in ours. Another key changing song I’d like to recommend is Orange by treasure, they changed the key so well with the high note sung by Jeongwoo and the fact that Asahi wrote and composed this song makes it even better. Lastly hats off to you for having the patience editing this masterpiece omg I respect this sm
Eternally by txt is truly a masterpiece, when i first listened to the full version, i was surprised because i didn’t knew it was going to be like that haha but it’s perfect from angelic to demonic to angelic back again, it was a song that i thought that was uniquely different from other kpop songs.
One of my favorite key changes in kpop is in Jimin's LIE. I love how it switches from minor to major starting with the chorus. Feeds into the 'caught in a lie' lyrics
SEVENTEEN Woozi's latest single "Ruby" also has this different structure. It's literally a banger how it started like it's a combi of ballad and classical music, but then turns out it's a rock song that ends unpredictably too!
this is single-handedly the best video in kpop youtube, and probably one of my favourites, like, ever. it’s absolutely incredible how you as one person managed to make it so enjoyable, educational, and engaging to watch. the little texts of excitement and the variety of songs you used as examples, and the rewind at the end.. just. amazing. wow. i cant remember the last time i commented on a video while appreciating the creator like this. you’re an amazing editor btw. please don’t stop making these types of videos. i’ll hold them close to my heart ♡
I loved this video, so educational. With your explanation I think I kinda understood why I felt like O.O wasn't working for me despite liking other songs with dramatic sound changes such as Eternally (one of my faves by TXT). When I first heard Eternally I was amazed like "wow, so clever", but O.O left me kind of "wtf?" Maybe it's because while Eternally is still cohesive somehow, O.O does feel like two separate songs. I know the effect is purposeful, but for me it feels like they failed to make them work together and it's like a mashup of two snippets. I know they searched for that kind of shock response but it loses the satisfaction of hearing the song to me, specially since Lily's high note in the bridge it's kinda interrupted abruptly by the chorus going back and that annoys me somehow I can't explain. But I agree some of it was cool, specially the beginning, I actually liked that feeling of the song going "darker" just before the verse starts, and definitely the "superhero" part has so much potential as well. I actually liked the fan remixes for that reason.
Trewww, in my noobish language, they just didn't do any transition and my brain failed to follow the change. It's like changing to a slide with different theme in power point, which is messy
I love the fact that you included TXT that too a B-SIDE, people only listen to their title tracks and ignore the rest, I genuinely think TXT has one of the best discography in kpop (both biased and unbiased because I am a moa but still spoke facts)
Eternally is so underrated on how good it is. When I heard it for the first time it blew me away because it was the first song I had ever listen to that did something like that. I feel it needs more appreciation
i refused to watch this video for so long bc it kept on being recommended to me and I was like. No. I’m refusing. But now I’m watching and I am BLOWN AWAY by the editing here......it is so professional and dynamic I am genuinely obsessed
OMG -- TXT's Eternally is indeed insane! The first time I listened to that change or audible illusion as you named it, I thought it was a different song lmao. Then the next time I listened to it I realized it's just the same, and I really loved how unpredictable it is.
F(x) are the OG's experimental queens. SM probably used them for just that, experiment on what could be set for the future aka aespa. If you really think about it F(x) songs where always different but also held back by a time where k-pop fans loved the same concepts over and over and it never really changed from that. I always loved f(x)'s discography cause it was different from everyone elses and maybe that's why aespa caught my eye right away since they have a really similar sound but more modern and futuristic.
Interlude: Shadow really has a special spot on me. You described it perfectly, the song was constructed and delivered in every appropriate and powerful way. The structure made sense, everything made sense even the tempo changes in the last verse of the song. Storytelling wise, IT MADE SENSE to change the structure of the whole song into a much heavier and aggressive approach with the tempo, rap style, the bass and synths.
i never really comment on yt videos but I just have to for this one this is one of the best edited videos I’ve ever seen. It looks so professional and as a free time editor myself I was literally blown away of how much effort you put into this!!
THE TRANSITIONS FROM ONE MUSIC TO ANOTHER, THE EDITING, THE CONTENT, THIS VIDEO IS FUCKING MIND BLOWING I WANT TO THANK YOU PERSONALLY FOR EXISTING CAUSE THIS ADDED YEARS TO MY LIFE SPAN
i LOVE how you brought up IGAB like you're laying down the red carpet for the queen LMAO, IGAB's like a huge nostalgia song for me because I remember listening to it in junior high school and thinking "i've never heard a song like this before and i am loving it" and that is coming from someone who used to like basic songs with very few changes lol! Aside from the songs, can we talk about the whole video in general? This is the first video of yours that I watched and I'm blown away by how well-edited it is! It's like, how do your viewers get to watch this premium content for FREE? Anyway, I'm hooked, and I'm definitely watching every single video of yours from now on!
Eternally such an amazing song. So beautiful. As you said, this song has the demonic and the angel side. I really love this song and thank you for pointing that out.
this is one of my absolute favorite kpop related videos of all time please consider making a second part ^^ your editing and the way you explain things is amazing
TXT's Eternally is the biggest KPOP hidden masterpiece. I mean, how come those angelic and heavenly melody suddenly followed by hell-like upbeat and dark vibe and they fit perfectly??? especially the transition to the last chorus, it never leave me not goosebumped. also, I know that it's all about preference, but I still can't understand those who hate nmixx's O.O but hype aespa's NL or savage "too much". actually nmixx's O.O is the first gg's mix pop that really nailed it. The instrumentation was hit me hard! they know how to create a great mix pop, NOT compilation song
I totally agree with you on everything you said about eternally but feel the total opposite on what you said about O.O. It's quite interesting just how people can perceive the same thing in vastly different ways
It's kind of interesting but i do think there is something strange about the way they put the structure of the song (p.s i also feel strange about NL and savage, don't really like the song in general only like the chorus part sorry, so maybe it's just my preference) but the chorus of O.O is kinda cool.
I loved how you worded that description with interlude: shadow- “This song is a masterclass in how to make emotional decisions with song structure” I remember hearing that song for the first time freshman year when it released and being hooked for literal months, yoongi is an extremely artistic songwriter/producer and knows EXACTLY how to convey the emotions he wants. (Shout out the the mv producers as well, that video is stunning)
11:11 I love so much Eternally by TXT and I don't understand how can it sound so well with these differences of music. The song matches very well with the lyrics... It feels like a nightmare you can't escape from and no matter if it feels like the pain is over, it will return. edit: can you make an explanation video?
If you're interested in another B-side from a 4th gen boy group that does something similar in terms of the changes, might I interest you in My Side by Stray Kids?
Your channel is superior. I didnt feel lost this entire video on a topic i wouldve otherwise have had a half understanding of. Your editing was extremely helpful too, the transitions were clean and the layout is very readable and pleasing to the eyes. Not to mention 90% of the songs here are on my playlist lol. Ill let you guess which O.nes arent On my playlist.
no cus the transitions between songs are immaculate that literally made my jaw dropped & your top-notch editing is the best..it's so cool to see such things on a informative kpop video txt's eternally is the definition of a roller coaster in one song..i think the other great example is "my side" by stray kids, the pre-chorus & chorus sounds heavenly but they served us with rap part that slaps in the verses then they went back to the wild rock sound in the outro..for those who haven't listened to it yet i highly recommend
ISTG I keep coming back to this vid bc of the amazing edit! Like- the songs don't cut on a random moment and even ig it does the next song matches the part it does cut off. Amazing Video omfg!
I was gonna say, you can't talk about "The Bohemian rhapsody effect" without I got a boy! Also, I never really realised the YG party chorus thing. I always thought Treasure music sounded a bit more SM-ish, but I guess the party choruses (and their long hiatus) really shows how they're under YG after all
writing this cause i wanna be a songwriter *classic structure:* verse prechorus chorus verse (usually halftime beat for rap) prechorus chorus bridge high note chorus a little different *I've noticed:* - first 2 chorus are quite identical and kinda full - last one more "silent" and "calm" without percussion instruments *yg:* - first 2 chorus are quite identical (with halftime beat and kinda feels empty) - last one with disco party chorus with more accessible choreo for fans like me.. (tho i still find them difficult but let's move on...) and minimal lyrics to complement the dance break *eleven & aya did this:* - slow down the beat before chorus (bonus points if it's slowed down before the disco party chorus after the bridge like omagashhh) *another way to add flair to the song:* - key change at the last chorus (i line this one sm but sometimes it gets confusing to hit the right key while singing😭 as a singing coverist it really gets on my nerves. tho when it's done properly it's 💣. BONUS POINTS IF IT FOLLOWS THE HIGH NOTE AT THE END OF THE BRIDGEE) - vibe change (for example in zimzalabimzim, from a bubbly prechorus they do a jump scare to the chorus where they even change key... an octave lower) - silent bridge... without percussion instruments or even just acapella or with only piano and some reverb in it which is then followed by a random disco party chorus or dance break out of the blue!! like omggg - the emotional change like in eternally by txt where from angelic they jump to demonic and as if nothing happened the chorus is angelic again... WUT?!?!?!??! and then it doesn't stop there.. (you wishhh) txt won't decide and it goes to demonic again BUTTT (it ain't stopping here either... you were wrong hehe. the boys are confused about which concept to pick) it turns back again to angelic... no better... HEAVENLY!! (wth i like this so much) - tempo change... very experimental THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEOO OMG NOW I'VE GOT IDEAS IN MY HEADDD i swear if my career doesn't take off... 🙂 hahahaha
Its amazing how we started the video with a music with a comum structure(dm) and finished with one of the most unique and different music of all kpop (igab).Your video is incredible too.The way you explain and edit this is so well done .You really can see how much passion do you put it on this . And this video shows how singular , unique , different from generic things, creative and amazing kpop is 😔✊️ Sorry for the bad english
There are not words enough to express how glad I am that I stumbled upon this channel, only because of my love for anti drops and being a 2nd gen stan myself. And yes, IGAB is a weird ass mess but it is also the reason I am in Kpop and I don't care what people say. IGAB is a legend in and of itself and I love it
As a huge fan of song production, structures and instrumentals, I couldn't be happier to watch this video! Your analysis is great, I really loved how you pointed everything so correctly and all I could do was agree! Also, I liked that you said that not everyone liked some songs, but as you can see, it's always the experimental ones. It may sounds messy or loud, but when you really know how the structure works, you'll get to like it! I usually like "weird" songs at first, but I always get impressed everytime I listen, because when you pay attention to the instrumental, the song sounds even cooler!
ok but the way you transitioned from tricking us that it was the end of the video to IGAB.... GOD this video is so well made!!!! thank you for creating videos, they're truly so amazing and informative and I absolutely loved this one
As an advanced music student and musical production student, all I can say is: this is BRILLIANT. Very well explained, very accesible for non musicians too, the edit and the humor was just on pointe. Suscribed! Also yes IGAB is the BoRhap of Kpop, hands down.
i’ve always LOVED zimzalabim. the song is so fun to me and i think the different sections make it enjoyable. red velvet in general are honestly queens when it comes to experimentalism, along with fx
This entire video just ended up making me play IGAB on repeat for 3 days straight. Gotta give props to the first K-pop song I heard that probably desensitized me to how weird K-pop sound could actually be. SNSD will always be mothers !!!!
idk how to explain but the way this was edited was so cinematic(?) the transitions were immaculate, i’ve never seen that in these informational kpop videos.
I’m really excited about this new “trend” of kpop UA-camrs doing videos about the production of our favorite kpop songs. It’s super interesting and I’ve recently gotten interested in possibly producing songs myself :) so it’s very useful Luckily I learned about song structures in 4th grade though so I’m pretty familiar with this stuff
if i was asked what i’d like to hear for the first time all over again, i’d pick eternally. i was going all in the feels and being emo and suddenly BAAM SIKE. i’m so fascinated by the song structure and how strangely beautiful the song is together with the lyrics ( i think this song shows the contrast between a dream and a nightmare like hello???? that’s so 😿)
igab is SO COOL, if i am not mistaken, when jessica said "bring it back to 140" she meant BOTH bmp and time. if you go to 1:40 in the mv its the same. so cool.
EXACTLY!!! Too many “experimental” songs nowadays just straight up mash things tgt without effort to glue them - be it thru instrumentals or vocals (which I Got a Boy both used) It’s also why ppl hated O.O cuz there were no transitions at all. The producers even gave an instrumental break to perhaps allow the group to “announce” a beat change like SNSD did but instead someone else (or maybe JYP) decided it’s not necessary and ignore that golden opportunity And the fact that I Got a Boy’s different sections can come tgt at the end shows that music theory wise, those different parts actually have underlying similarities whether thru the scales used or the vocal onomatopoeias~~~ experimental songs nowadays cant even do that - the only one that even comes close is Yeppi Yeppi (which doesn’t even feature an ending w all sections tgt but was glued tgt very well)
Yeppi Yeppi is a bop tho but whole album was for me. You explained it so well I share the same sentiments. The track has to flow…even with different genres. NMIXX debut sounds like a album medley when I think about the structure oddly enough. Also, I’m trying to avoid the song like the plague because it stirs up a lot of disappointment and frustration but here it is.
But i actually didn't like " NMIXX" transition. I actually liked the second transition where they cut off her highnote and then there she's sitting and " watch out baila baila baila" was so cool 😭💖
@@shimpiyaa yes the second transition was good. The Nmixx transition was okay but it's the first part I have problem with.. for now.. but who knows when my music taste changes hehe
too many ppl use the excuse that the song is ‘experimental’ if it doesn’t sound good but a song can be BOTH experimental and good at the same time. if it’s bad, it’s bad. no need to use excuses
@@blopssom well the entire point of an experimental song is that it’s just that experimental which means it has the potential to be good or bad so it’s not an excuse it’s just the reality lmao

Props to SM's groups because these songs will only be pulled of because theyre capable of doing it.
Brilliance!
Yes! It threw me off so much when I first listened to it, but I grew to love the sudden changes and section overlaps in the song lol
@@parkchimmin7913 yesssss resolution is the perfect word. Nothing in the song felt like an accident. It was all meant to happen.

Being an sm stan made me more interested in music production and totally welcomes experimental songs like zimzalabim red velvet or tempo exo
Even in their early days SM had always been the most experimental one, For example Rising sun by TVXQ. So maybe the reason why SM does it so well is because they have the most experience in that field.
I hate on twt they villains multis like so wat if I like a lot of the companies music I just have expansive music taste lol

IGAB is literally the granddaddy of the "bohemian rhapsody" effect and always will be. The song was like patched from different parts of different songs but created a perfectly functional new song and I fell for it right at the first time instead of taking a while like Next Level - which has the same messy structure like IGAB. 2nd kpop generation is really something extraordinary and magical.
isn't it bohemian rhapsody itself though?

can we talk about how well made this video is? HELLOOO THE EDITING???? great work!!
SM songs back from 2nd gen is so phenomenal. We experienced weird beat and key changes but everyone enjoys it and no one complains. SM still holds the beat changing title till now
Also the final chorus party of YG, it's so predictable but still cool

yeah, like I GOT A BOY was the first kpop song I listened and I liked it at first listen, some of the newer "bohemian rhapsody"-ish songs made me want to skip them after listening it for a few seconds, and listening to the full song didn't change my mind.
The "Let's bring it back to 140" is so cool because the tempo switches to 140 bpm and it also is the same part that began 1:40 the last time
Basically, SM keeps on experimenting on their artists' songs lately like putting another song in a song and having different genres especially in bridges.
I like the analysis.
the transitions are so scrumptious holy moly
it's not a ground-breaking discovery, but one little detail that i love about IGAB that i think still doesn't get enough attention is the fact that jessica isn't just bringing us back to 140BPM, she's also bringing us back to the actual point of *1:40** in the song.* IGAB might sound like random mish-mash upon first listen, but after picking it apart and noticing details like that you start to understand exactly how much love and care was put into that song. i normally have trouble sitting through a song that's 4:30 but IGAB switches things up so often and so well that every listen is enjoyable. it really _is_ kpop's bohemian rhapsody.
and as everyone else has said, this video is super well-made! good job!! i would love to see more videos covering big topics like this (and your anti-drop videos) and i'd also be interested in videos analyzing specific songs as well to understand what makes them work. i can't wait for the next vid!!

Yeah it's like in books or movies if the Mc made a joke in a death scene of their dear lover
yeah but it was meant to make everyone hate it.
I’d use the analogy of a DJ switching up from one genre dark to upbeat one out of nowhere then doin it again lol it works have I seen thier performances they wear one outfit throughout n u won’t feel it’s that out of place not like it was a sad song n becomes cheerful loll can see the sudden surprise like for sugar song it becomes darker I think o.o def got their own unique concept mixing drastic genre like that the mv shows two worlds
While others keep it cohesive

11:09 (Eternally) for those who are interested: The shifts "feel" like a tempo change because the dreamy chorus is in 3/4 and the dark-sounding verse is in 4/4
It's more like the dreamy is 4/4 and the other 2/2
Actually I don't know
@@caz8135 2/2 is basically the same as 4/4 :D I'm pretty sure it's 3/4
to me it sounds like it's 4/4 for both but the rhythms are in eighth-note triplets for the chorus and sixteenth-note triplets in the verses
it's actually more like the chorus is in 3/4 but the shift is in 6/8, with the 8th note being the same tempo throughout. it's a signature change, not an actual tempo change. it just feels that way because of the subdivision in the drums.
I have no clue what is being dicussed in this reply section.
Yeah, YG party anthems literally my mood booster. Bigbang, 2ne1, winner, ikon, blackpink, and now Treasure😆
7:29 I LOVE HOW U MADE THE *o* AND *m* FADE WHICH CHANGES TO SM LMAOOO EXPOSED-
Correct me if I'm wrong but...IGAB has a similar more structure to some theatre musicals than pop songs.
It’s a whole story
yep, but that has more to do with the execution than the writing itself, especially with the instrumental being nothing like a musical number.
@@user-nd5lg2rj2j I don't think musicals are restricted to a certain set of instruments. Hamilton fused a lot of synth sound but it's still a musical nonetheless :)
damn giving some lin manuel miranda vibes fr
YES PLEASE DO THE EXPLANATION VIDEO FOR ETERNALLY!! I'D WATCH IT LIKE ATLEAST 10 TIMES
Agreed I am always here for nerdy explanations
Me too me too
IGAB is pleasantly weird and perfectly mess structured.
EXO - Tempo is called bohemian rhapsody of kpop
@@Pinkrevenge101 so?
@@Pinkrevenge101 wouldn’t the song she mentioned last be that since they started it in kpop and everyone has been doing it since?
I got a boy is simply insane. I realized a while back but you opened my eyes with how they play the new choruses over previous ones and it's even more insane.
The kind of song where if you don't like kpop / know stuff about music you brush it off, but if you study production/ arrangement you realize how good it is
I always thought the tempo change in aespa’s Next Level could be a different song meshed into the original mix. But it made the song whole. Plus the delivery is impeccable.
11:29 YES PLEASE DO ETERNALLY WHOLE EXPLANATION I REALLY NEED IT
11:03 Eternally is the most beautifully scariest song that i have ever heard like I’m REALLY experiencing going to heaven and hell back and forth, your dreams and nightmares flash in seconds. remember when i first heard the song i’m so freaking confused but in a good way.
FOR REAL THEY NEVER FAIL TO AMAZE ME
12:12 ugh it rlly is, I think eternally is the only song I like where there are two genres in one, it just works so well and it fits perfectly with the story aswell!
YEEEEES ETERNALLY IS SO UNDERRATED i really love that song

ENDING WITH IGAB IS THE RIGHT ENDING. YOU'VE DONE THE KPOP COMMUNITY PROUD!!
two years ago this video is what got me into kpop and i am eternally grateful!
I was like "you're not going to mention I got a boy?" and them... 🤣🤣 Amazing video
I still periodically watch this because of how amazing this video is
Eternally by txt is truly a masterpiece, when i first listened to the full version, i was surprised because i didn’t knew it was going to be like that haha but it’s perfect from angelic to demonic to angelic back again, it was a song that i thought that was uniquely different from other kpop songs.
One of my favorite key changes in kpop is in Jimin's LIE. I love how it switches from minor to major starting with the chorus. Feeds into the 'caught in a lie' lyrics
Exactly a lot of these surprises in structure of kpop is on theme with the concept of the song n lyrics to convey the moods
SEVENTEEN Woozi's latest single "Ruby" also has this different structure. It's literally a banger how it started like it's a combi of ballad and classical music, but then turns out it's a rock song that ends unpredictably too!
❤
this is single-handedly the best video in kpop youtube, and probably one of my favourites, like, ever. it’s absolutely incredible how you as one person managed to make it so enjoyable, educational, and engaging to watch. the little texts of excitement and the variety of songs you used as examples, and the rewind at the end.. just. amazing. wow. i cant remember the last time i commented on a video while appreciating the creator like this. you’re an amazing editor btw. please don’t stop making these types of videos. i’ll hold them close to my heart ♡
@@versa7663 Yes EXACTLY THAT.
at first i thought that too but now it just works for me 😭😭
YOU EXPLAINED IT REALLY WELL OMG
Plus the vocal remixing... nmixx is like a vocal group but why does it feel like they're screaming in my ears with this song lol
I love the fact that you included TXT that too a B-SIDE, people only listen to their title tracks and ignore the rest, I genuinely think TXT has one of the best discography in kpop (both biased and unbiased because I am a moa but still spoke facts)
Preach! (MOA here 😉)
Eternally is so underrated on how good it is.
Storytelling wise, IT MADE SENSE to change the structure of the whole song into a much heavier and aggressive approach with the tempo, rap style, the bass and synths.
i never really comment on yt videos but I just have to for this one
this is one of the best edited videos I’ve ever seen.
It got me looking for a way to contact the person who made it??? I want to be their friend tbh
right?? i fr almost cried bc what omg this is so beautiful 😭
i LOVE how you brought up IGAB like you're laying down the red carpet for the queen LMAO, IGAB's like a huge nostalgia song for me because I remember listening to it in junior high school and thinking "i've never heard a song like this before and i am loving it" and that is coming from someone who used to like basic songs with very few changes lol!
The instrumentation was hit me hard! they know how to create a great mix pop, NOT compilation song
yes eternally is one of my fav songs of all time it caught me off guard
Yes I really liked the 0.0
Txt's music is always so fresh
I totally agree with you on everything you said about eternally but feel the total opposite on what you said about O.O. It's quite interesting just how people can perceive the same thing in vastly different ways
It's kind of interesting but i do think there is something strange about the way they put the structure of the song (p.s i also feel strange about NL and savage, don't really like the song in general only like the chorus part sorry, so maybe it's just my preference) but the chorus of O.O is kinda cool.
The cut between how you like that and killing me is insane!
THE EDITING OF THIS VIDEO IS AMAZING!
I loved how you worded that description with interlude: shadow-
“This song is a masterclass in how to make emotional decisions with song structure”
I remember hearing that song for the first time freshman year when it released and being hooked for literal months, yoongi is an extremely artistic songwriter/producer and knows EXACTLY how to convey the emotions he wants. (Shout out the the mv producers as well, that video is stunning)

Thanks!!!
Seriously!!! No EXO song😑😑
@@moonhenecia6409 they can’t possibly add all the groups in the world…
P.S: they have mentioned Exo as an example in their past videos
Dang I know all the songs am in deep 😭
thank you omg
11:11 I love so much Eternally by TXT and I don't understand how can it sound so well with these differences of music. The song matches very well with the lyrics... It feels like a nightmare you can't escape from and no matter if it feels like the pain is over, it will return.
edit: can you make an explanation video?
If you're interested in another B-side from a 4th gen boy group that does something similar in terms of the changes, might I interest you in My Side by Stray Kids?
TOMORROW X TOGETHER's ETERNALLY is so unique. It's like mixing angel and devil in one song.
I'm actually so impressed of how well the transition goes and how well do you explain these
Your channel is superior. I didnt feel lost this entire video on a topic i wouldve otherwise have had a half understanding of. Your editing was extremely helpful too, the transitions were clean and the layout is very readable and pleasing to the eyes. Not to mention 90% of the songs here are on my playlist lol. Ill let you guess which O.nes arent On my playlist.
i agree! Finding this channel is a blessing.
I completely agree!! It was easy to keep up
Do you know what she use to edit?
Ugh, Eternally is such a beautiful track! Uplifts you, then turns demonic, only to soothe you once again.
no cus the transitions between songs are immaculate that literally made my jaw dropped & your top-notch editing is the best..it's so cool to see such things on a informative kpop video
txt's eternally is the definition of a roller coaster in one song..i think the other great example is "my side" by stray kids, the pre-chorus & chorus sounds heavenly but they served us with rap part that slaps in the verses then they went back to the wild rock sound in the outro..for those who haven't listened to it yet i highly recommend
ISTG
I keep coming back to this vid bc of the amazing edit!
Like- the songs don't cut on a random moment and even ig it does the next song matches the part it does cut off.
Amazing Video omfg!
This video is so helpful for people trying to learn more about music theory, love the Eternally appreciation and post-credits scene.
I was gonna say, you can't talk about "The Bohemian rhapsody effect" without I got a boy! Also, I never really realised the YG party chorus thing. I always thought Treasure music sounded a bit more SM-ish, but I guess the party choruses (and their long hiatus) really shows how they're under YG after all
writing this cause i wanna be a songwriter
*classic structure:*
verse
prechorus
chorus
verse (usually halftime beat for rap)
prechorus
chorus
bridge
high note
chorus a little different
*I've noticed:*
- first 2 chorus are quite identical and kinda full
- last one more "silent" and "calm" without percussion instruments
*yg:*
- first 2 chorus are quite identical (with halftime beat and kinda feels empty)
- last one with disco party chorus with more accessible choreo for fans like me.. (tho i still find them difficult but let's move on...) and minimal lyrics to complement the dance break
*eleven & aya did this:*
- slow down the beat before chorus (bonus points if it's slowed down before the disco party chorus after the bridge like omagashhh)
*another way to add flair to the song:*
- key change at the last chorus (i line this one sm but sometimes it gets confusing to hit the right key while singing😭 as a singing coverist it really gets on my nerves. tho when it's done properly it's 💣. BONUS POINTS IF IT FOLLOWS THE HIGH NOTE AT THE END OF THE BRIDGEE)
- vibe change (for example in zimzalabimzim, from a bubbly prechorus they do a jump scare to the chorus where they even change key... an octave lower)
- silent bridge... without percussion instruments or even just acapella or with only piano and some reverb in it which is then followed by a random disco party chorus or dance break out of the blue!! like omggg
- the emotional change like in eternally by txt where from angelic they jump to demonic and as if nothing happened the chorus is angelic again... WUT?!?!?!??! and then it doesn't stop there.. (you wishhh) txt won't decide and it goes to demonic again BUTTT (it ain't stopping here either... you were wrong hehe. the boys are confused about which concept to pick) it turns back again to angelic... no better... HEAVENLY!! (wth i like this so much)
- tempo change... very experimental
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEOO OMG NOW I'VE GOT IDEAS IN MY HEADDD
i swear if my career doesn't take off... 🙂 hahahaha
Its amazing how we started the video with a music with a comum structure(dm) and finished with one of the most unique and different music of all kpop (igab).Your video is incredible too.The way you explain and edit this is so well done .You really can see how much passion do you put it on this .
And this video shows how singular , unique , different from generic things, creative and amazing kpop is 😔✊️
Sorry for the bad english
The transition from Heart Attack to Mr Mr...immaculate.
i LOVE how you explain these !! helps people to understand better about the unique structures of certain kpop songs !! ❤❤
ok but the way you transitioned from tricking us that it was the end of the video to IGAB....
It’s super interesting and I’ve recently gotten interested in possibly producing songs myself :) so it’s very useful
Luckily I learned about song structures in 4th grade though so I’m pretty familiar with this stuff
if i was asked what i’d like to hear for the first time all over again, i’d pick eternally. i was going all in the feels and being emo and suddenly BAAM SIKE. i’m so fascinated by the song structure and how strangely beautiful the song is together with the lyrics ( i think this song shows the contrast between a dream and a nightmare like hello???? that’s so 😿)
igab is SO COOL, if i am not mistaken, when jessica said "bring it back to 140" she meant BOTH bmp and time. if you go to 1:40 in the mv its the same. so cool.
EXACTLY!!! Too many “experimental” songs nowadays just straight up mash things tgt without effort to glue them - be it thru instrumentals or vocals (which I Got a Boy both used)
It’s also why ppl hated O.O cuz there were no transitions at all. The producers even gave an instrumental break to perhaps allow the group to “announce” a beat change like SNSD did but instead someone else (or maybe JYP) decided it’s not necessary and ignore that golden opportunity
And the fact that I Got a Boy’s different sections can come tgt at the end shows that music theory wise, those different parts actually have underlying similarities whether thru the scales used or the vocal onomatopoeias~~~ experimental songs nowadays cant even do that - the only one that even comes close is Yeppi Yeppi (which doesn’t even feature an ending w all sections tgt but was glued tgt very well)
Yeppi Yeppi is a bop tho but whole album was for me.
Ok once at chuu's part and noticed the font and checked the channel name AND ITS A 2GENBIAS VIDEO LET'S GOOO. Genuinely made me happy, you videos are not only always well done and researched, but also have really fun concepts. Thank you!
