Although breastfeeding in public has been very controversial of late, for a lot of moms, it’s a fact of life. They need to feed their babies while they are leading their normal lives, and that means out and about and among other people! In this video, I go through some breastfeeding tips for all you moms out there who are always on-the-go! Keep watching!
How to Breastfeed in Public
When I’m in a public place and need to feed my baby, I always make sure my back is facing the wall, giving me a little more privacy. Although some moms opt for a “hooter-hider” (don’t you just love that name??), I rely on my trusty old hospital burp cloth to get the job done. Breastfeeding in public definitely doesn’t have to be a scary thing. Watch for more great tips!

Scarves! I've always been a big fan of scarves even before nursing. Infinity scarves that are wide enough to cover baby and boob are great and easy!
It is known that your body metabolizes alcohol so the amount in your breast milk is roughly the same as your blood. So if you have a BAC of 0.08 (1-2 drinks within an hour, depending on the person) while breastfeeding, so does your milk. Alcohol, in moderation, is perfectly fine while breastfeeding. Also, lactation consultants often advise mothers to drink a few dark beers a week to help with milk production. I breastfeed and haven't drank since before I got pregnant but I also know there's nothing wrong with it. Relax people.
I agree with you that you are better off feeding the baby BEFORE he is super hungry and frustrated... I wouldn't wake him early or anything, but I would feed him on time when you need to, wherever you are!

I don't want people seeing my breasts in public so this is great advice. And a glass of wine is fine and safer in moderation while breastfeeding. than it is during pregnancy.

My pediatrician and lact. spec told me I could safely have one glass a day. I read babies can eat less after though so I wasn't interested

i have trouble staying covered and getting my breast out and keeping my milk from spraying all over my clothes with a flailing baby. it might be best practice for me to feed that before it is crying and frustrated in order do this better instead of holding off as long as possible thinking we can get by without a feeding in the restaurant.
I try to make her eat as much as possible before going out cause i have the same"problem",i don't really like to be watched(although many people say that we don't should be ashamed of this)especially here in Italy where there are people, mostly foreigners, that look at you with a mischievous eye!

My big problem also was that I had to SEE, so I had to look down at my breast to see if baby was on right, especially at hte beginning -- I also had that "spout" where the milk would spray out, so so funny! I think this is one of those things you get better at over time, how you dress is essential, and you can use the burp cloth.... it's a very personal thing, some people feel totally comfy and some don't... I was ok doing it but I didn't want anyone to see anything!! ...
Check with your dr, I think you can have a small amount... I did ...

Why would you drink wine while feeding? The alcohol does go through to your milk instantly

As a man, if I see a woman nursing her baby, get up and stand in the gap with my back to her so people just see me.

I'm not going to put a blanket over my baby's head while she has her meal. Do you eat your food under a blanket? Breastfeeding is natural, it's not gross, it's not sexual, and if people have an issue with it, they need to reform their thought process
+MissCyka It's an individual choice for a mother. If you truly support breastfeeding, you should respect the choices a mother makes - using a cover or not.
Where did I say every mother shouldn't use a cover? Of course I respect the nursing mother's choice to cover up or not, what I have no respect for are the people pressuring her one way or another, and the fucktards who demand a mother cover up for their own comfort. The only wrong way to nurse in public is doing so in a manner that makes everyone else comfortable, and not taking the feelings of themselves or their babies in to consideration

Although that is a nice technique it should be mentioned that women should not feel obligated to cover up when breastfeeding in public.
my baby doesnt like to be covered she kicked my cover off .... And i am a bit confused how you do you say cover ur baby enjoy your glass a wine or salad when your not suppose to breastfed while drinking your suppose to throw the milk out after u have any alcohol....

Nope actually research now says that drinking even to the point of getting drunk and it doesnt effect baby :)
If you drink while the baby is nursing the alcohol won't get into your milk that fast. By the next feeding it will be out so the best time to drink if you must have 1 glass is right when baby starts nursing. Also, even if you drank 30 min before nursing, if your ok to drive your ok to feed because very very little goes into your milk

I have seem women "pop it out " any and everywhere..I kept a liteweight baby blanket to cover for privacy (it works) or I would put pumped milk in a bottle (small cooler) there's no need for unwanted attention or drama ..prepare before leaving the house..it can be done..not that difficult..
@@carlalamar6193 I’m glad that worked for you, but not every mom can get the hang of it and if it’s between social norms to make others comfortable and feeding my baby, I’m gonna feed my baby. That’s just what makes sense to me.

I know some of you people are slow but there is this magical place in most public areas called a BATHROOM where if you need to do some private business you can do it privately. I know I know, it's a hard concept for some people but trust me, it's there.
Do you like to eat your meals in the bathroom? Then why would it be acceptable for a baby, who shouldn’t spend extended amounts of time in germ infested areas because of their new immune systems, to eat in the bathroom?

I get that woman think it's their right to not use a cover. But I don't want my teenage son seeing that while we are out shopping! As his parent that is my right.

@Comet Launching well as long as women cover themselves I'm fine with it. But I don't think just whipping out ur boob to feed ur baby is necessary. I myself don't want to see ur boobs. So I think it's respectful to cover up.
Some babies refuse to use a cover. My friends baby will literally rip it off of her head. My baby doesn’t. It all depends on what the mother AND baby is comfortable with. Y’all need to keep that in mind! It’s not always the mothers choice.
