Yamaha HTR-6230 Home Theatre Receiver Review

- A detailed review and critique of a Yamaha HTR-6230 Home Theatre Receiver. A very powerful and ultimately reasonable capable home theatre 5.1, 5 x 100 watt per channel receiver, let down by lack of HDMI audio handling and no on-screen display. Should you buy one second hand in 2023? If it's at the right price (say $50 AUD), then maybe, but ONLY if it has the factory remote. The confusing and bewildering functions are only available via the two layered (two functions for some buttons) remote.

I’m running optical audio to my TV and getting amplifier produced sound out of my speakers. Sounds great to me!
Great review thank you for sharing.
I have found my Yamaha receiver not working on coaxel but working on my 📱 do you know what it is Thanks for the video
Try a reset.
If you run in stereo do you get more than 100w per channel at 4ohm?
The specifications say 100w per channel at 0.9% THD (which is bad enough distortion), and 135 w per channel at 1 kHz at 10% THD. This would be unimaginably horrible broadband noise achievable with a high gain input signal and basically a DC clipped output square wave - essentially incoherent noise. Without forced cooling, it would also get very hot, and quickly.
Hello I have one of those I am looking to sell. Could you tell me what it might be worth or would you be interested in it? It is the exact same thing.
Hi, you might get $80 to $120 AUD for it with a remote. No, I'm not interested in buying one. Cheers
I have the 6230. And it's way more complicated than it needs to be. I also have the 3063 Which is far superior
Agree, I just wanted a relatively simple, good sounding amp - not having an on-screen display or audio in the HDMI is a real killer for this amp.
I have a US/Canada model Yamaha HTR-6230 that doesn't have the Sound Optimizer microphone input and capability to tune the audio parameters to the room acoustics and speaker placement. Another reason not to buy one.
