    Creating virtual machines on a Proxmox host is something I understand well enough. What I did not get from this video is how to configure the use of a single keyboard/mouse to control all three virtual machines seamlessly, while moving files/folders across three different operating systems, using three different video displays. I'm aware that "Synergy", "Barrier", "ShareMouse", "across", and "Logitech Options" are some programs that might be able to do this. Could you tell us which (if any) of those products you used - which one works well?

    Morgonaut, it is always a pleasure to see you release new content. The 2 key points I took away are that (1) the hardware selection still matters even with the type 1 hypervisor (2) Proxmox can restore previously built machines very easily. What was less clear to me were the specific steps required to create a new virtual Mac machine from scratch rather than restoring a pre-existing one. Perhaps this could be a topic for a future video. Thank you for taking the time to share your expertise.

      You just copy a macos install iso file to proxmox and boot from the opencore iso (opencore is required to run macos and is a lot more than just a bootloader!) then just select to boot the macos installer iso just like a real mac. Proxmox is great free software, I even cloned my macbook pro to an external usb3 ssd disk and loaded it in Proxmox as a direct attached physical disk (server is an old 2013 Dell 5610 dual E5680v2 20core/40 thread 64GB RAM workstation with a Nvidia GTX680 and GTX660 GPUs) and booted 1st time. The key takeaway is FREE enterprise grade virtualization from Proxmox (Qemu/KVM hypervisor) brings a lot to the table. There are many step by step guides out there on how to do it.

    Unless you show specific commands you've used, and what someone needs to be doing, your examples aren't showing people anything other than YOU can do this.
    You need to be very specific; what does one need to insert into the kernel, how does one determine IOMMU groups, how does one get GPU passthrough with all the commands. You skimmed over it without telling anyone what it was they needed to do.
    Don't get me wrong, I enjoy your videos, but until you delve into what needs to be done, and with detail, no one will be able to do what you've done.

      @@MorgonautHackintosh Thanks for the video, excellent work and showcase - but - do "they" really hunt down videos about passthrough methods for GFX cards in ProxMox VMs?? The trouble is - for most of us using macos for content creation successful passthrough is an absolute must. There is no use for macos without acceleration. And as you probably experienced yourself in your adventures with proxmox - current methods of passthrough for gfx (and then thunderbolt) is the most time consuming and biggest problem of all hypervisors out there. 80-90% of macos compatible ATI cards will have major issues booting to VM with passthrough, and only tiny number of cases can be helped with vendor-reset module. There is almost no information available on the subject in english language, as most proxmox users passthrough nvidia to windows rather than ATI to macos. So we need that kind of video. This is the "make or break" for a wide adoption of your Margonaut's New Method. All of us need help with passthrough methods specifically. I've tried proxmox twice, second time after your video, and I'm still stuck with a 580 and Radeon VII that just won't reset correctly for VM boot. I get maybe 1 successful boot in 10 to Monterey on a good day. And I realise each case will be different and by now I also know it can be anything - kernel version, bios version, rom version, card version and that may never work for either of my cards. But we need at least a good - "best case scenario guide" - from someone who knows hypervisors well - cards to avoid, cards to buy, kernel modules to add, kernel modules to remove for common scenarios, do we need those rom dumps or not, and so on, so forth.
      You have a herd to lead, be the shepherd Margs.

      @Von Reagan - no, nobody will "hunt down videos about passthrough methods for GFX cards in ProxMox VMs", I never said that! But try to make your own videos how to make a hackintosh like this = how to step by step macos and you can count how many days will your youtube channel survive until it's gonna be deleted!!!!!! I answered here several times I will show how to Win/Lin on my 1st youtube channel so you can learn from it, but you can't expect I will risk my YT channel just because you want something from me and for free so you can just benefit from it and save lot of money right???

      @@MorgonautHackintosh Ah.. I understand now - it cannot be revolving around hackintoshes (for obvious reasons)... I'm in similar boat to you - I already have 2 x MacPros, M1 mini and two MBPs, the proxmox for me however is a gateway to insane disk speeds thanks to raidz on nvme's and faster encoding thanks to PC graphics cards, as in - a fix for something that we'll never get from apple but I keep forgetting that for most people hackintoshes are free alternative which obviously cannot be freely discussed.
      Allow me to ask a question that I got stuck on but it might be very easy for you to answer - if I were to provide separate primary graphics card to proxmox and dedicate secondary card to VM and blacklist it in vfio and modules - in your experience will the secondary card still suffer from the same reset bugs that usually prevent booting when it's the only card in the system? As in - will I really have to keep buying cards until I find one that doesn't suffer from reset issues?

    Hello Theresa!
    From what I understand from the video, it is possible to install fully functional OSX without using OpenCore, Clover and ProperTree, i.e. need to configure a VM inside Proxmox? I assume there's an example of some basic VM configuration within the Patreon section in the subscriber area, because I spent all day looking for some coherent example of how I could do this and learn given the configuration and desired machine profile without boot loaders? All the examples I found use OpenCore and Clover, i.e. the classic way of creating Hackintosh on a VM, and I'm still not completely clear from this what the concept of that famous "new" way is. Is there any further recommendation, direction or help, or is it better to leave this for some smarter times, considering that I have never worked with a supervisor and configuration? Thank you in advance!

    @Morgonaut Thank you for putting so much time and effort into sharing your knowledge and helping others! I found that video insightful and actually entertaining as well. I totally agree that it's a hassle to maintain the "old way". A few days ago I upgraded to the latest OC version, which was a bit of a pain. But I am not yet sure whether I dare to upgrade from Big Sur to Monterey now due to potential incompatibilities.
    So, the new way is indeed very intriguing to me. For the reasons you explained, you did not show how to install a MacOS from scratch. But you were right. There are good descriptions out there in the internet and I had a new Monterey VM running on Proxmox in a short time. But unfortunately, the "new way" isn't that easy and straightforward for me as I had hoped. Setting up GPU passthrough with my Radeon RX 460/560 on my mainstream Asrock board (with i7 9700k) was not successful yet and currently I am really stuck.
    And without it, video performance is simply not good enough to use it as my desktop computer. Let's see whether I can find a solution. By the way, this is only a comment based on my personal experience, not a request for any troubleshooting or so.

      "Setting up GPU passthrough with my Radeon RX 460/560 on my mainstream Asrock board (with i7 9700k) was not successful yet and currently I am really stuck." - I configure daily whole servers from scratch in just 10 minutes including passthrough of anything. @@MorgonautHackintosh I agree. And actually I have a bit of experience with another Proxmox node hosting e.g. a Debian Linux with some smart home stuff, a Kali Linux, … But GPU passthrough is a new thing for me. From reading in a Proxmox forum I got the impression that some issues with that were probably introduced with a more recent kernel version. Which Proxmox/kernel version are you currently relying on? Since it was a fresh install for me, I simply took the latest stable version.

    All due respect. I'm a fan & longtime viewer & I respect you & have learned lots from you & hope to continue to learn lots from you. Also, I needed to learn what's in this video.
    But, unfortunately for me at least, this video is unwatchable. I made it through 51 minutes before shutting it down.
    What's more important? The music or the information?
    I love music. I am a musician. I love blues, funk, soul, & all other kinds of music.
    But unless it's at a volume level of 0.025, it gets in the way of the instruction. Too much noise competing for my attention.
    I have to keep the audio on in order to hear what you're saying, but even after you turned the music down, it didn't make any difference. It was still competing at 100% volume against your voice.
    Please reconsider doing this WITHOUT music. Or, if you feel you must have some sort of pulsating beat to keep things moving, it should barely be audible.

      @Angel E Ramos - I think there cannot be any good written guide which would be suited exactly for you. it's not possible to prepare any step by step guide or video tutorial because it's so complex and wide and each build is unique and each one's needs are different, so even if I would shoot 10 hours long tutorial, first - nobody would watch it or and second - nobody would understand that and third - it would not work for any other hardware than the one I prepared it for. Also most people forget about fact computer should be tweaked and optimized for exact specific use case and that involves much more than just following some tutorial.
      And I always first discuss client's needs, expectations, demands etc., then I can suggest some changes if needed and then I will configure everything for people in front of their eyes. What should I do more? :)

    For those who still scoff at this approach, go have a look at the list of supported systems for Ventura on Apple's website. We're seeing the end of the road for x64 support in MacOS. After Ventura, you'll need an Apple Silicon CPU to run future versions MacOS, which means the death of the hardware based Hackintosh. I can't see Apple continuing to support x64 after that, given that it's only the most recent versions of Intel based systems that are supported in Ventura. If you spent tens of thousands of dollars on a heavily optioned Mac Pro in the last few years, I feel the most sorry for you. Not only won't you be able to upgrade past Ventura, at least some of your software will also not update, unless you're on Apple Silicon. It happened when Apple moved from PPC to Intel, and then released Snow Leopard without PPC support. Many popular apps even refused to update on PPC systems, the updates would only run on Intel. I would be hawking my Intel based Macs on ebay, for whatever you can get for them now, before your resale value plummets. Virtualization is going to be the only way to Hackintosh in the future.

    "Windows always touches ALL other disks" @43:50
    And people called me unknowledgeable every time I mentioned Windows snooping around other disks it shouldn't be whenever I told them about my operating system related issues with drives.
    Two examples:
    I bought a new SSD NVMe.2 and wanted to use that as my home disk where the operating system ran. Since I didn't care about my last install, I did a fresh install of Win11 on the NVMe, then wiped the Sata SSD clean while booted in the new install. Next day, I turned on my computer. "No boot drive found."
    Huh?
    Short and simple: The answer was that Windows decided to use the boot files from the old disk. Why? New, separate drive, new install. I had to boot into the install USB and write a new boot file with the command prompt.
    The other example is:
    Prior to the issue above, I was running Windows 10 on a Sata SSD. Since I needed extra storage for my files as 500 GB wasn't enough, I attached my old (NO PARTITIONS AT ALL) 2.5" HDD.
    Suddenly, every time I booted Windows, it would rev up the HDD and take MINUTES LONG to boot, as if the Windows install was on the HDD and not the SSD. I triple-checked the HDD to make sure there wasn't nothing on there. There was no mistaking an empty drive.
    The solution to this story, guess I had to buy a second SSD.
    Thanks, Microsoft. (y) /s

    I have a clover 🍀 Catalina OS install I would like to update to Monterrey OS, would this video help? Or what can I do since I have dual boot windows 10 on my hackintosh that you recommended I build years ago on the 2019 i9 killer Mac

    • @MorgonautHackintosh
      @MorgonautHackintosh  Місяць тому

      @Franruelas10 - obviously when I gave to people my "New Way" I see no reason why to bother with the old way you have. Switch to new way and you will not have any problems. And doing dual boot with Windows on the old way is best way to hell, I even made whole video about it few years ago to warn people of that danger

    I have been messing round with TruNAS on an old Lenovo D20 workstation, mainly because of ZFS. Is a Proxmox Hackintosh possible on such a system? If so, would prefer to virtualize Mac OS on that system to handle the file sharing than deal with TrueNAS on the daily. Also, I would prefer Thunderbolt bridge to 10GbE for file sharing with my MacBook Pro. If this is feasible, I would be happy to pay for Morgonaut's support to set it up.

    • @MorgonautHackintosh
      @MorgonautHackintosh  Рік тому

      sure it is possible if your cpu supports that. D20 is very old system so you should not expect miracles form it

    Hey 1:14:24 It says you have 3 x Quad cores which is 12, but 12900k has 16....did u have to sacrifice 4 to the host?

    • @MorgonautHackintosh
      @MorgonautHackintosh  10 місяців тому

      @GeekShhh - I can't remember what I said in the stream but I didn't have to sacrifice anything, I just simply decided at that moment to assign the resources this way, but it could be reassign at any time different way, it's fully flexible

    Just wanted to say this is not for novices or beginners. She does not go over the actual step by step process. I.e. there are some things she assumes you understand already. So you'll still be digging through forums if you no well versed in programming or setting up servers/ the finer details of this installation.
    i had an issue where my Proxmox only was accessible via the GUI portal once and after the reboot it would not appear any longer. i tried to troubleshoot but i cant even begin with these forums and the confusion...Looks like I'll be buying a mac anyway.

    Hi, thank you for this excellent content, it is really hard to find a content like this! I'm a completely noob about virtualization, so if there is anybody that could help me, please? I couldn't configure Proxmox installation in the part that is necessary to configure the network, so how can I set in the installation to access from my phone, I didn't understand this part. Thank you!
