Awesome information. I became the RTO in my recon platoon in Vicenza a few decades ago, and turned into a total comms geek. Fast Forward 30 years and my knowledge is VERY dated. 😆
Newly retired and looking to reenter the comms world with HAM radio.

My next (and last) rig will be the G90. Small footprint in a small senior apartment. QRP cw and dangling wire out the window. That's the way it is.

Back lighting on buttons for the 590SG would be nice. Maybe Kenwood could make a 590SGB someday.

Thanks for this very informative vid. I'm in doubt about buying a K TS-590S used (900 €) or a Y FT-891 new (about 700 €). I'm in my 70's and it has to be my first and only HF transceiver. Your counsel will be most appreciated!

Why is the guy in the beginning taking into the back of the mic?

    In the UK the G90 is around £425,the TS590SG is £1500-that’s more than a £1000 jump 😮

hi, you are right but that's why the g90 is the budget pick and the TS590SG is the premiums pick. The rankings are not absolute! We start with the best budget, then the best premium and lastly our top pick all things considered (incluing price)

Great video, but I struggle to give credibilty to a source that speaks into the back of the microphone (see the operator at the beginning). :)

    G90 is a great radio.
But why make the comment of no backlighting on buttons and controls as a negative?
    Most don't have.
Shit my IC-7300 at many times the price of the G90 don't have back lighting.
Now, no back lighting on the 7300 and other comparable radios is a negative and disappointing.

Thanks for your comment, you are right since this is a budget pick but still it would be much better if it did have backlighting

I wish more had backlit buttons. My FT991a spoiled me now I feel like anything not backlit is missing something!

i just wish yaesu would bring back the ft897.
    great all band radio.
home base. mobile. and can even go portable.
only real want for it would be NEW style lifepo4 battery's and a charger that is affordable.
sad can only buy japanese rebuilds that are not US ready.
if they brought it back i would buy a couple of them so i would have one for home. one in my truck. another for the jeep. ( jeep is a 1984 CJ-7 built up for hard rock) but with the full body cage it can be parked up front in the wally world parking lit.
    - go ahead slam your door into my cage-👹.

Nobody uses an 891 or g90 as a base. Yaesu 710 or 991 or icom 7300. Terrible list.
