I love the original Vari-Mu and was hoping for an actual review of this unit, not just a synopsis of the spec sheet. Usually when I see audio equipment review videos, it entails some type of objective analysis, comparisons to other equipment, maybe some actual audio examples. I'm not sure of Manley provides the hardware for you, but If I was a "high end" audio equipment manufacturer looking for a real review of a product that I had just put months (or probably years) of time and research into building, I would be furious about getting back an 8 minute video of a guy holding up the box and describing the front panel.
Streaky! I trust your opinion but a sound test doesn't hurt haha Nice vids! :D
SORRY FORGOT... :(
Wow 25 years of course mastering experience, impressive! I'm based in London also so I may avail of your services for sit in mastering session when I'm ready. It would be great if you did a video listing the outboard units that you feel are best suited to the kick heavy genres like techno and house and explaining why. You could also give some examples out outboard units which are not suited to this genre to put things in context.
I was actually thinking of buying it, but didn't knew how appropriate was for dance music. Now I know.
P.s. thanks for the track you mastered for me couple of days ago...it sounds amazing!
excellent cheers...yeah I like this compressor warm but not over the top
I'm use it on dance music it's pretty cool, but it's a finisher. It's better to put before a great vca compressor to catch all violent peaks and transient and after the NUMU add some creamy tone, I love it the numu reduce somme harshness without too much coloration like a varimu or a phoenix.
Okay Streaky, the real question (on the compression side)... NUMU or Creme????
No audio demo and I'm not even mad because it's Streaky! :)
Semi skimmed 😂😂 spot on
Would love to see a review and hear your opinion on the Neve Portico II MBP if you could!
Nice review! Have you ever tried the Knif stuff? Lots of mastering engineers seem to like them a lot.
Vesa Laasanen everybody I talk were saying it’s very cleeea. So I don’t really get the point for me.
bravo for staying on it for so long with so few subs. your vids are great.
How mush subs was it back then 👀🤘🏼
Here is the difficult one. If you had to choose one compressor to use on a mix bus (I know you are mastering engineer but you may know the answer) as well as on individual instruments and vocals within around £2k what would it be? Thanks in advance.
Plugin or hardware?
Can't lie, I love my TK Audio BC-1. It's not very expensive either. It's solid!
Either API2500 or Sebatron SMAC
I own it. Very cool for tracking or glue on my Mixbus
Love all these new videos man. Can you do one on headphone pre amps?
Hi Streaky. Thank you so much for your review. I would like to know your opinion about the Numu versus the Tegeler Vari Tube Compressor which I see in your rack. What is your opinion? And which are the differences too with the vari Mu? I have heard that the Tegeler is in the same level as Vari Mu and is a good clone for the Fairchild, saving of course the differences. Cheers.
Hi Streaky! Nice video as always :) can you do a video on your studio acoustics and how (and what) to transform a room into a mastering/mixing studio? Thanks, D.
hey Streaky thanks for all your reviews
few questions
1) sound wise can you compare the Nu Mu vs Vari Mu - many say that the Vari Mu magic of creamy glue compression is lacking in the Nu Mu , is this true?
2) can you compare the heritage audio successor vs the Nu Mu vs the tegeler Vari mu compressor? which one would you choose if you could as your main compressor for vocals, and mixbus......pls say something about the sound of successor vs sound of nu mu/ vari mu
Hi Streaky. Great vid. could you let me know your opinion for the best Summer compressor for electronic music? MINIMAL / TECHNO Thanks a lot M
those meters are cool! the right one fight against gravity!
Any chance you tested this as a limiter? Like, a final step Brickwall limiter? Any slim chance it could replace a plugin during that final stage? I know you use Fab filter. I use UAD Oxford. Will this do what those plugins do? Wishful thinking. ☺ Thanks Streaky!
Are you still using this unit? would love to hear you do an audio test of it so we all can hear the juice
Nope
i was wondering if you enjoy mastering a specific genre of music more than others, and also do you like working on and or listening to jungle/drum n bass music? i am hoping to get some stuff mastered in the not too distant future (fingers crossed). thanks
What do think compared to the SSL bus+??
Love your reviews. Would be great if you added little bit audio examples too in the future!
Hi streaky! Actually what do you think on the NuMu? it´s nice for "dark techno" (no mainstream EDM). I read that doesn´t tame the transients constantly... Thanks!
You need way more subscribers! Solid stuff. Thanks!
mikelo303 tell me!!!...I preach about playing the long game but this is taking the piss 😭😭😭
I mean. I am surprised. Your content is really solid, funny and to the point. I can't imagine better channel for this stuff. And 11K subscribers. Not sure if it's niche market or just UA-cam fault. I think you need to check how, tags, descriptions work, keywords and stuff. Maybe it's in technicalities. Maybe ask some fellow youtubers for some pointers. I mean I really respect your work and I am not even a mastering guy at all. Just like tech and your style of reviewing it. It's cool and educational. I hope your channel will grow. Sometimes it's just by one video which is reposted on some bigger site. Try to reach gearnews.com to feature your gear reviews, or something like that. or mucicradar.com. Just shooting some ideas. Content is great, just need little push form some other side. best of luck and thanks for your time spend on this stuff! :)
Review Abbey Road TG Mastering Chain if possible. Keep on rocking Streaky. :)
Hi, great review as usual! Waiting for review of VTC, pls don't forget this beast ;)
Leo Lycra your wish is my command : ua-cam.com/video/rzuk73laI6w/v-deo.html
Hi, you are so great! Big thanks! Btw. your advice regarding the cables leads me to buy Vovox one and difference is so huge compared to my old basic one! You are truly helping people like me.
Streaky what do you think about the drawmer 1974 parametric eq. Can ya do a video on one
Hey i'm surprised also that unit doesn't have stepped control knobs. I thought that manley's actual mastering versions always has them stepped.... anyway good video
Um. No offense dude, but I’m not looking for an option, but to develop my own. Do you have sound samples?
how is it compare to your Tegeler VTC below? Thanks !
Tegeler VTC or Manly numu ..Which one has more color?
streaky are you that strong to hold it with one hand. My VU MU weights a ton
i see you have a d01, i have d02 and oh boy... i love it. Since it does 48K max, how do you integrate (if you do) at higher sample rate? cheers
Yes I love it, use it everyday...unless I need it at high res :(
I got the VTC, how would it compare?
Hello Streaky, thank you for your videos... what's your opinion if you had to compare the Nu Mu and the Tegeler Audio Schwerkraftmaschine. The Tegeler is more expensive, and seems to have more options, but I've listened to the Manley Labs videos and I quite like the Nu Mu. I'm not an engineer, just a musician, and the compressor I'll be buying will be alone in my small home studio, I cannot afford multiple compressors. I already have a Manley Core, a Tegeler Crème and a Tegeler EQP-1, and I'd like to add a stand alone compressor to have the complete set. What would be your advice... Thank you
Scared to check the price for this 😂 but I can dream I own or will own one.
Your room sounds like a closet.
Hey Streaky!!
Love your work mate... I’m looking at this for vibe on 2 Buss, strictly techno.... this has almost sold me however no input puts me off.
I’m looking at the IGS TUBECORE3U I’ve read it smokes the Manley vari mu.. have you ever heard it? Or care to do a review...?
i second this
So much technical misinformation in this video where do I start.
Vari-mu's go back to the 1950's, the T-bar mod has nothing to do with this solid state unit.
It you see the meters move your doing wrong?! wff 🤡
Another clown channel.
Dangerous convert-AD+!
I only buy Rice Milk hence the name😂🤣😃
Dude I thought u were gonna run some sounds through it
Shut up ! Just test it ...really !
Hey, some honest feedback.. I don't need to see your face or your hands... or you holding the module at an angle I can't see anything. What I need to is the hardware. and hear it. This review comes across as lazy. Looking forward to better reviews though.
Just like all Manley gear. WAY OVERPRICED.
Why do you think so ?
Lmao smh worse review ever
