  • BMC International Meets are week-long gatherings of climbers from all over the world, with the aim to showcase the uniqueness of British climbing and connect climbers from across the globe.
During the week in 2019, 25 international climbers from all over the world teamed up with UK climbers to experience the delights of Welsh trad climbing. We welcomed guests from 20 different countries including Slovenia, Japan, Saudi Arabia, India and South Africa.
Steve McClure gives us an insight in to this year's meet, as he climbs classics on Dinas Cromlech.

My best day ever: Foil, Left Wall, Cemetery Gates, Cenotaph Corner and Resurrection*
    * possibly one of the 3 best E4 wall climbs in Britain.

Brit Climbing is sooo inspiring! Now i see a lot of bolted routes which should have been left for trad.

...and too many routes that were done as trad that have been retrobolted without permission..Also,too many bolted projects have been chipped.

I have a question maybe some of you can answer: why when I watch these European climbing videos, are they usually using 2 ropes instead of just one?

It’s British Traditional Technique, not European. It’s very handy in Trad Climbing & big Multi•Pitch routes

Sometimes it’s safer to ascend and quicker to descend with double ropes. Can shorten falls and reduce rope drag.

If there is gear spaced out left and right, having twin ropes reduces drag

As mentioned before, it really helps rope drag, also handy for abseiling down when you can tie the two ropes together.

UK climbs generally don't have a line of bolts, so natural gear placements are more spaced out.. so two ropes reduces drag.
