    Here we have a great illustration of Neo-Advaita teaching yet again stressing the absolute truth " You are That" to the detriment of the absolute requirement for a " skilful teaching and means" to liberation. A monastrey type setting, daily meditation practice and immersion in the teachings are the " Triangulation" required if liberation is to be achieved. All 3 ingredients are there in Zen and other Buddhist disciplines.

    • @soulspiritself
      @soulspiritself  3 місяці тому +28

      @@fizywig some individuals may require total immersion and monastic life. Many don’t. Even many Buddhists (and it’s important to remember that this isn’t Buddhism)
      My favourite Zen Master Bankei’s teachings were very similar in approach to Robert’s. Huangbo Xiyun also preached spontaneous enlightenment without the need for rituals.
      I agree with you about much of Neo Advaita but I think it does Robert’s teachings a disservice and overlooks the fact that many people awaken through self inquiry. Buddha wasn’t the first being to awaken after all, nor is awakening restricted to any religion or practice.

    Thank you for your service. But the very idea of eternal or timeless awareness/consciousness/existence sounds terrifying. I actually suffer from apeirophobia, that is from dread associated with the idea of infinity or eternity.
    Do you know of any methods or means to evade all this nonsense and simply dissolve into nothingness with the last breath? Not some metaphysical 'nothingness,' but the real nothingness of the materialists! Is there any such escape or back door?Can God abolish himself? Your answer would be greatly appreciated.

    • @soulspiritself
      @soulspiritself  3 місяці тому +2

      This practice isn’t going to show you eternity all at once.
      You’re going to find who you truly are. You find the true self and you find that everything is occurring right here and now.
      Advaita would urge you to ignore eternity and any concepts around it and ask ‘who is the one that fears eternity’. I know it sounds trite when you’re suffering with a phobia but it has merit.
      When you touch that Self it feels close, intimate and expansive all at once. You see that Eternity isn’t an infinite stretch of time stretching off into forever. It’s this instant, and it’s pure contentment.
      As William Blake put it
      “To see a World in a Grain of Sand
      And a Heaven in a Wild Flower,
      Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
      And Eternity in an hour.”
      Forget eternity and just look for the immediate experiencer.
      In terms of instant obliteration/ back doors I had a very different experience with eternity after I tried Bufo, the toad venom psychedelic. That was immediate of course, very peaceful, and felt truly infinite. I asked the entity if this is what it feels like after we die and he replied ‘it does if you want it to’. My fear of death dropped right there.
      I expect that would be cathartic and unlike LSD, Ayuahasca or Psilocybin it’s done in 15 minutes with no time to panic or worry as it kicks in. And unlike those any fears you do have going into the experience will not be carried into it. I’m not pushing psychedelics onto anyone but I have found them to be incredibly useful.
      I hope you can find a way through this!
      Loving Kindness meditation (Metta) might help you too. There are lots of good guided ones on UA-cam, find a voice you like and practice those. Adyashanti is a good option.
      🙏❤️

      @@soulspiritself Thank you, brother, for your sincere effort and love. 'Phobia' may be too strong a word, it's not like trembling or sweating. It’s more like, I really don't care about the very idea of some bloody 'existence',' an "experiencer," his "contentment," and things of that sort. What good does it serve at all? Also, it isn’t eternity per se that seems to be a problem. I know we're talking the "eternal now" here. It’s more like what value does this mad dream have in comparison to pure nonexistence? What would be "lost" if consciousness decided to extinguish itself? Besides, if it has no such option, then it’s not really free.
      Regarding the practices you so kindly recommend: I guess once I "find who I truly am," there would be no way back or out, so I’m hesitant to do any spiritual "work" (though I’ve done some in the past). The very idea of doing psychedelics or any such stuff seems so very bothersome, boring and redundant.
      This has been bothering me for years. On one hand, it might equal wasting time; on the other hand, there’s a faint hope of finally finding a hidden way out of all this unnecessary, hurtful dreaming/existence/"eternal now" and all this stupid ball of painful nonsense.
      What if it's about 'worshiping' the right entity? In some novel the Devil himself granted someone the wish to not exist. He sent them to nonexistence right away. "God" equals existence (sat-chit) and Devil as his very opposite should espouse nonexistence according to all logic, right?
      I so pray that the materialists are right and all the metaphysical stuff is just a blunder, an illusion. But your insights would still be very much appreciated.
      P.S. I'm not depressed, suicidal or any of the sort. I have a good life. But one such experience - if it has to be - is quite enough, thank you :)

    • @soulspiritself
      @soulspiritself  2 місяці тому +3

      I really smiled at this "what value does this mad dream have in comparison to pure nonexistence?" I have no idea. Any idea anyone had about that would just be a theory anyway, a theory within a dream, where's the value in pursuing any of that?
      At the risk of sounding woo woo have you considered that your ego is petrified of being exposed for what it is, that would certainly account for your attitude to really testing it. It's your ego-mind that insists that spiritual work is scary, or that psychedelic assisted ego-dissolution is tiresome. You seem to know that of course, you're resisting but resistance really is futile when it comes to this. I was in a very similar place to you, then I stuck a toe in, then a foot, then something dragged me under...
      If you don't want to risk being submerged then don't watch another spiritual video, or read any spiritual books, run while you still can!😁 🙏

      @@soulspiritself I don't know, man. Run where? From what? From my own creation?
      To reach some made-up redemption? And then what? Rinse and repeat? Another cycle, another Creation, and then a billion more of those? To start all over again, as a worm running from a bird, a bird running from a cat... another billion people running, "exposing their egos"? For what?? If you don't find all that to be tiresome and pointless, I don't know what else to say.
      I don't care about "ideas," obviously. I thought maybe you had an answer or insight based on experiential knowledge.
      My only consolation in life is the thought that the materialists might be right-or at least that there is some hidden exit, an escape from the timeless existence. In this light, any 'spiritual work' would be counterproductive, wouldn't it?

      @@Freeedom-qc5moI’ve had a similar fear come up on some indigenous medicines. The fear of eternity, no way out, what are we all doing here? Doesn’t anyone else see how crazy all this is? And it was an inner panic that was happening. Maybe this Jesus dude was right, maybe he is the only way out of samsara and the never ending birth, life and death repeat cycle. Maybe this dude who claimed to be the son of God to “save us” was right. Maybe I need to awaken to the self and see through all of this maya so I never have to come back. Maybe this life is like a prison sentence. But then something happened in the circle which made everyone laugh and it was like a breath of fresh air; a relief. I laughed to myself and realized this is the point of it all. Experiencing life completely. And what a relief to finally find laughter and joy after a bout of suffering and fear. That’s duality. You wouldn’t know one without the other.
      I think a lot of this thinking that your having is good. It’s part of the path. But I do think it can overtake one’s experience and become an obstacle. I’d suggest becoming very still and silent. The mind is creating all of these fears and the mind really has no idea how to even fathom the infinite. It can’t. So use the mind as your servant and do your best to still it and a deeper truth can reveal itself to you.
      Another option is indigenous plant medicines with a very good pajé (shaman). The medicines will purge out these fears you have and you’d be surprised the deep processes you go through and what starts to unravel and be released. It sounds to me like this is a deeper healing issue that needs to take place. And allow the chants and the medicine to rewire your brain. And do the proper steps to act on what was shown to you by the medicines after the ceremonies. The medicines can give you a fresh start so to speak. Then you can come back to Advaita and start to get it on a deeper level. But the mind itself is fear, the ego is fear, the you that you want to preserve or destroy or dissolve into nothingness is fear. Relax and enjoy the unfolding of the truth and welcome in healing wherever it’s needed.

    The mind cannot ever be silenced period. Until someone from outside the Material Universe intervenes can one then subjugate or imprison the mind. That intervention is ordained to some but Not Most.

    • @soulspiritself
      @soulspiritself  3 місяці тому +4

      Do we need to subjugate or imprison the mind? That makes it seem pretty powerful.
      It's not a big scary monster, it just feels like that sometimes, it's not actually real at all, it's just one thought at a time popping up.
      Once we see that, then like the imaginary scary monster under the bed when we shine a torch under there, it disappears.

      @@soulspiritself the mind has no such moment even 'of no thought' meaning zero thought. Even in sleep it keeps thinking, it dreams. The thought process is ever lasting it never stops. It cannot be silenced ever...!
      Q. What can be done is subjugate or imprison it by intervention. I refer:
      John 14:26 - Bible
      'But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you'.
      Romans 8:26 - Bible
      ' Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words'.
      To believe or not to believe is ever Yours !

    • @soulspiritself
      @soulspiritself  3 місяці тому +4

      We may be unable to silence our thoughts, but we can certainly learn to ignore them. First we notice them, then we make a little separation from them, then we start to see them for the idle intrusions that they are, then we can just enjoy them or ignore them.
      They're harmless unless we choose to give them power over us. Most of us seem to give up that power as children, but we can get it back.
      I think your Holy Spirit and mine are the same. My gospel is silence but the message is the same. ❤️🙏🏻

      @@nh54guesthouse In deep sleep what happens? There is no thought activity for a while for those minutes in deep dreamless sleep...the most rejuvenating period of sleep.
      The other "side" of it is experiencing samadhi in deep meditation.
      These are 2 ways, one unconscious and one conscious to epxperience the moment without thoughts. It also happens spontaneously in your waking state, but everyone don't even aknowledge it because the average folk is not aware of the absence of thoughts because they are focusing on something other than the activity of mind at any particular moment. It also happens briefly so someone may totally miss the fact that he/she wasn't thinking...
      That's why meditation and slowing down is important, otherwise it's extremely difficult for true insight to come.

      @@Alex722 - mind = conscious + unconscious. Switch on PC it's conscious, switching off PC its unconsciousness but it has a 'sleep mode'. The PC is alive & ready but it needs your invention to awaken.
      In humans the mind lives in a similar state. The soul is the energy source. It awakens sleeps with the mind which is of the 5 elements. If the soul is extracted the 5 elements body dies, a switched off PC., the mind is no more. The soul is also in 2 states, aware (conscious) and unaware (unconscious). But it's 'blind' to itself and so pursues the conscious unconscious states of the Material mind locked up in the Material 5 elements state / body..
      Awareness of the soul rises or enlightens when the soul is fed spiritual knowledge. Both mind & soul are then enlightened. Consciousness of the mind increases and awareness of the soul shines.
      This effect is caused by the intervention of the Holy Spirit & the Word of God which is Ultimate.
      Makes sense?
