The offices where Abraham and Sasha stay while waiting on Daryl. Abraham finds that uniform and all those weapons. That was a good environmental storytelling episode.
I'm thinking that originally, it was probably the owner of the Mini Mart, and his family who stayed there. They ran out of supplies after a while, and after some time, one of them died, likely from starvation. They turned, and tore into the others, and the ones who got away made it up to the roof. I think the surviving chained zombie was bit and shot in the store itself, but died from blood loss. He wasn't put down because they didn't realize you come back no matter how you die, they may have assumed the original zombie got bit somehow. The couple put the others out of their misery and committed suicide before the zombie reanimated.
I always thought the mini Mart was an homage to dawn of the dead, as it has the same circumstances and sign on the roof, heck even the telescope was featured in the movie.
Funny, tbis reminded me of the Macon pharmacy from the TellTale game, a glimpse of what mughtve happened, had the group not packed up, and headed to the motel.
I love when they show abandoned towns in the show and it makes it more interesting and scary what people were doing at the time. Plus getting trapped in a store can be good and bad at the same time for example look at Dawn of the dead 2004 but every time I see dead bodies in abandoned places it’s sad because they didn’t want to go through it or see any of there loves one go. Great job on the video they keep getting better!
@ your welcome and it’s depressing I’m grateful that we don’t live in TWD universe yes it would be cool but losing people who you love wouldn’t be great.
I love the dawn of the dead both versions but I hate in the remake let's just leave this mall with everything in it like what at least in the old one they got raided so it would make sense
Interesting take. Using the caravan made it more pulled together. The people on the roof were there long enough to stop clearing the SOS sign. There is a chair over the letters. If they really had hope to be saved it would have been clear. Too much time passed. Too little food. Too many dead.
@@deryldixon8080ah, I do love the way studios use weird equipment to represent something else, chieftains as Abrams, dushkas as brownings stretching it to say the national guard was still using hueys rather than very likely being on Blackhawks at that point

You know, all of these environmental storytelling episodes are always so interesting, seeing a snapshot from the early days and the fragile struggle to survive. Always a pleasure to see them. Also makes me wonder why no one attempted to survive in the White House. I always talk to my friends about how perfect the place is. High fences, good vantage point, and the gardens can be turned into farming fields. It’s also in D.C. so there are places around the city to get supplies, and with the Museums nearby, tools they could use. Yet we never see anything surrounding the White House. I’ve also always wondered what happened to the President. Probably in a bunker somewhere lol. Good video as always! Hope to see more in the future!
Thank you Ty Swell you have made me get interested back to the walking dead again after leaving in season 6 or 7 but anyways great video keep up the good work
The female corpse on the mattress may have been paraplegic or already bedridden before the outbreak. If they were family and friends it would explain why they all remained in 1 place throughout as they refused to leave a loved one. It also may give credence to them writing save us instead of trying to find refuge somewhere else believing the only option they had with someone who could not walk was to be rescued from the air. I lean more towards the female corpse being bedridden maybe she was elderly or was terminally ill and just too weak because of the double mattress they have. It seems the others made do with just sleeping bags which makes sense they are easy to carry and are suitable for outdoor camping but the mattress just sticks out, why go through the trouble of lumbering a hugh mattress on the roof when the world around you is going to hell? they would have to have carried that thing from another location and then would have to devise some pulley or rope system to even get it up there cause there is no way that mattress came through that tiny trapdoor. I don’t think its purpose was for a comfortable night sleep but rather a necessary requirement for a person who already bedridden. Another thing that potentially backs up this theory is the fact there are 5 corpses on the roof but there is only 4 deck chairs (the 4th one is on the ground outside) indicating 1 person never needed to use a chair at any point. because most seem to have succumb to bullet wounds the pill bottles we see may not have been used for overdosing but actually used to medicate someone who needed it. The last thing that hints at this is the fact that the female corpse appears to be the only one that is not wearing any footwear or has footwear nearby them like the male corpse has again a possible indication that she just didn’t need them as they served no purpose for someone confined to a bed. I was gonna also include the fact that the placement of the woman on the mattress appears to be behind the lookout area as if being protected, away from where the shell casings are scattered therefore away from the side of the roof that seems to be the most vulnerable but I decided not to only because I doubt it would make any difference given how small the roof area is.
That women’s shelter in Atlanta when Daryl and Carol are looking for Beth is a cool set or how that entire mechanic rest stop in the later seasons staff turned
The CDC where the Atlanta group takes shelter, I find that as a great environmental storytelling as well. The high school is S2, where Shane and Otis went to search for medical supplies in order to save Carl, too.
You inspired me to restart the original series! I tried to do this last year and made it to season 6 but gave up but your videos made me want to rewatch. I had an idea for a video. You should do character studies on side characters who weren’t incredibly important to the plot but still had an interesting story!
Hi Ty, I love your environmental storytelling series. Fascinating, and I imagine the production team must be happy that their great work isn’t just missed amongst the action. Thank you ❤
The one reanimated and chained up was dressed like a kid or young teen in my opinion, maybe they tried to kill the kid with pills instead of having to shoot them, but it didnt work. The blood could have been from a bite, not gunshot
Another fantastic video!! I've now managed to accrue episodes 1-5 of S2 DD Carol by tomorrow on my cable recorder, so I can either binge the 5 and wait one week for the conclusion or watch the whole show next weekend.
Well he’s not endlessly speculating and droning on about absolutely nothing and leaving us with more confusion and uncertainty than before we watched the video, like some other UA-cam channel that covers twd and explains it
I can't lie, i completely forgot about this part in the episode but this was a good theory. My theory is that maybe the lone walker killed them all because the placement of the couple with the gun is odd if they mercy killed themselves but maybe im wrong. Now why would he still be left turned is the question. Maybe he was frantic and they had to calm him down but he died from his gunshot wound instead of a bite. Its highly unlikely another group did this because it would be hard to escape. Great video as well!
There’s no blood on the mattress for the couple. Maybe over time with rain it washed away but with the walker still covered in blood it doesn’t make sense. Also, what about the handgun? I find its placement odd like it was used to shoot the tied up walker. Maybe another survivor was there? So I imagine the man shot the walker in the chest because ‘he was gonna turn’. The person with the rifle fought back killing the couple. Either both at once or the woman begged to be with her lover, laying next to him as the rifle person ends her life. The rifle person sees the three chained reanimate. They shoot two in the head. The survivor may have not wanted to kill the other perhaps knowing one another. After a little bit, realising there is no way out, they go. Perhaps they jumped of the building while it was quiet. Perhaps the raiders killed them or they were the walker in the car? Or perhaps they survived? Or the more likely option is realising they weren’t going to make it, went back into the shop surrendering themselves to the dead.
the telescope was ost likely for watching for the dead since the range on it would be better than the rifle scope. I also think these are people that escaped the cities since their gun abilities are very low to bad and they did not seem to be able or willing to deal with a lone walker ( people from the sticks areas are more self reliant). Also they did not search the areas for supplies which would mean they were not familiar with the area / town. The only question would be the one holding the hand gun , how did they past away and not return considering how they were found ? If they self inflicted then the un would be closer to their head.
Love your videos! Discovered this channel not too long ago and I think I've watched nearly every environmental storytelling one you've made! On that note, I think a good one to tell could be the boat Rick and Aaron find in (I believe it was) Season 7 Episode 7 and 8 could be a good environmental storytelling bit, what with the threats and boards with messages left behind. Edit: Spelling error
@Swell-Films Thanks for making the content you do! I love writing stuff, and not enough people cover Environmental Storytelling like you do. You help inspire me with ideas to add, backround Environmental Stories for my friends to find in Apocalyptic D&D Campaigns I host for my friends for example. Again, thank you for making the content you do!
Yeah that’s probably more accurate, I can imagine them watching the glow of the cities burning from the distance if they made it long enough to see operation cobalt
Just throwing this out there. The paint, if it would have been from the start, "save us" wouldn't be more degraded? I know it's just a show, although in real life, an exposeded body can look like a skeleton in a short amount of time. (Time being relative to where the body is) I'm just saying that maybe something similar but slightly different might have happened, just later. I really like your theory.
I have suggestion Remember when Rick and his groups go to a museum to find seeds that anne (jadis) suggested underground of that museum there's plenty of walkers i think they're survivors and they didn't make it.
The owner (or a squatter)probably lived there, since there was a mattress. Beyond that, I suspect they had been there for at least a few weeks. They likely blew almost all their ammo the first few days. If there was a squatter, it'd explain the lack of food. It might have been condemned and even been boarded up because of this. The broken window might have also been done by raiders, who injured the bound walker, but found the store empty. This wouldn't have stopped the store from being overwhelmed however.
Maggie knew where all this was because her old group did all this before they were killed by the reapers. The save us on the roof means they saw the crm.
I am guessing a group of random survivors gathered inside the Minimart. They boarded up and holed up inside, eating the food inside the Minimart. Then, they began to slowly run out of food with nearly a dozen survivors inside. Walkers surrounded them and so, some survivors with weapons began shooting some of the walkers but they had bad accuracy and little supplies left. Some of those inside the shelter were bit and became infected. Too many of them to fight back and the threat of the walkers outside so the surviving ones fled to the roof. But some of them are infected. So, they began to do mercy killing and eventually, the last exposed, dehydrated, hungry, mentally ill and doomed survivors spent their last moments chaining themselves up or killing themselves until the end.
Another great video. What about the little cabin/ house where Rick rests while dealing with his rebar wound in Season 9 Ep 5. The dead bodies , bullet holes and the message on the wall.
To me the pills were for the couple with the gun (suicide by overdose), the other two probably were thiefs or were discovered doing something bad, so they were tied and killed, maybe they poisoned the other survivors so the food will last more (that would explains the walkers inside).
Love the videos. Can you please do one's on the small farm in season 1 where Rick found the couple who committed suicide with god forgive us on the wall and left their horse behind for rick to take into Atlanta??? and on Noah's home complex that the group went to before finding Alexandria? THANKS.
I don't know if the caravan is connected, could be. I do believe the bodies on top are a bit tragic. The teen zombie took his parents and another couple up there since he knew it was a local hangout spot. A fight occurs, the kid gets shot, the one couple has to tie the other family up. Then yeah. You see what they did with the pills.
I do like your theory but I believe it was the store owner and his wife and son his son was bitten tied to the post they didn't know what to do and they slowly went crazy up on the roof maybe a lot of the zombies from that car convoy could have come over and trapped in there but I think it was a family up on that roof
I mean, the chained up walker could still have done the mercy killing. Maybe he got shot in the chaos, killed everyone else, then tied himself up. Could also just be a bite.
I would like it if you describe your ideal community for twd, like every thing from medical answers to how to feed your people and or the numbers in your town. Also your location like swamp, mountains desert or island
I can definitely do a video on that topic one day, but I’d for sure find a spot in the mountains. I’m from Canada so there would be a low population to begin with, and inhabiting a town deep within the mountains would probably be ideal, the landscape would be like a natural wall from the dead. BC has a lot of farmland within these valleys so I think is probably go somewhere there
@@Swell-Films see the problem is you will want a place where say a community of say 20 or so people can survive and thrive. Zombies do not really have tactics so I would not pick a place where they have a edge. Probably an area thats kinda swampy because the walkers rot faster in a hot humid swamp so you can worry about the real danger which is human raiding parties
I think gun man shot to kill but missed zombies head. Realising there was one more bullet, in a final embrace, he cupid himself and his missus before they slumped to the side in their laying position. His gun hand already dropping to her side
I think theres a possibility that the shooter culprit could’ve fallen off the roof as a zombie too, if the couple on the mattress weren’t chained up maybe there was another person.
how do you have a scoped bolt action rifle and take out like 5? walkers? I can only assume Alcohol was left on the shelves of the store when they arrived? or they cleared out the bodies occasionally because there were not that many walkers at first in the small town, until running out of ammo and a lot more walkers arrived. by then it was too late.
i wish one of the billion spin offs was an episodic show, following different people each week , or even different groups in one episode. maybe first half could be one group, someone kills them then the rest of the episode is following them till they die. could even just be a bunch of bottle episodes taking place in one spot like the mini mart
@ i was thinking about the dead outside. Not many dead bodies but a lot of bullet casings on the roof. Might have been another reason why they didn’t leave. They thought they were next to invincible
I think environmental storytelling might be a technique where a series of objects or bodies will be laid out in a way that conveys a story to the viewer without explicitly stating what that story is, not sure though
It looks like the woman died after the man. Her arm is up on his shoulder and she is embracing him. It doesn't look like he shot himself either because his arm is very deliberately placed around her waist and under her elbow. It's very odd. I dont have a theory but just pointing this out.
New here - but have you watched From? There’s probably infinite theory videos like this you could make. But then again, it’s unfinished. Fun all the same
I’ve actually been considering doing some “mystery explored” type videos for FROM, such a great show, I think I’m gonna wait till this seasons done though
The offices where Abraham and Sasha stay while waiting on Daryl. Abraham finds that uniform and all those weapons. That was a good environmental storytelling episode.
That’s a great suggestion!
@@Swell-Filmsdamn you need to do that next this man had a damn good suggestion

The doors are locked from the outside and chained. There is a ladder by the front door. Think this story got more interesting.
I love this series
Love your channel man :3 ……. Can u do some forgotten movies like screamers 1990
I loveeee this series.
I appreciate you watching!
how do you have a scoped bolt action rifle and take out like 5? walkers? I can only assume Alcohol was left on the shelves of the store when they arrived? or they cleared out the bodies occasionally because there were not that many walkers at first in the small town, until running out of ammo and a lot more walkers arrived. by then it was too late.
Most likely wasn't zeroed properly so they spent more time missing than anything else.
i wish one of the billion spin offs was an episodic show, following different people each week , or even different groups in one episode. maybe first half could be one group, someone kills them then the rest of the episode is following them till they die. could even just be a bunch of bottle episodes taking place in one spot like the mini mart
I ❤ environmental story telling
I hope it’s okay but may I suggest the brunt house mentioned at the beginning of the video maybe? Unless there isn’t enough to cover
Unfortunately with so little information given, that one would be pretty tough to put together without just making stuff up
@ ah poo oh well it is what it is thanks for listening to my suggestion and can’t wait to see your next video
Hey Ty curious after your environmental story telling will you be making a new series with TWD or moving onto a different show?
I kinda just create whatever I’m feeling week to week, I have been wanting to explore other topics like the last of us and “from”
@@Swell-Filmsomg yes 😊😊😊 i love both of them aswell
Could you please explore the church in FTWD season 5, Esp 12 for your next video?
They might not have even known that you had to shoot the brain to kill them
That was my thought, explaining why one was shot in the chest, they simply aimed wherever they thought would be quick
@ i was thinking about the dead outside. Not many dead bodies but a lot of bullet casings on the roof. Might have been another reason why they didn’t leave. They thought they were next to invincible
I can't remember off the dome if you did Noah's camp, but if you didn't, could you please 🙏
Honestly, the mini-mart doesn't look too different from the start of the Tell-tale games.
Do one on the CDC these are great! But I've always wondered why all those bodies where laying out in front of the CDC.
Love this series ❤
The scene from ep.1 the dead family in the farmhouse
The university that michonne Tyrese Darryl and Bob go to in S4
I think environmental storytelling might be a technique where a series of objects or bodies will be laid out in a way that conveys a story to the viewer without explicitly stating what that story is, not sure though
I bet that could fit on a T-shirt lol
Don’t dead open inside 🗿
Lets gooooo!
Should do one on the auto shop in season 4 when Daryl is on the medicine run
That mattress looks ominous
With so many dying so fast there should have been plenty of supplies available.
Was this season 11 when Maggie left for food too
It kinda resembles the building in Resident Evil Apocalypse where the cops were hiding in.
Can you do the fall of the CDC next pls?
It looks like the woman died after the man. Her arm is up on his shoulder and she is embracing him. It doesn't look like he shot himself either because his arm is very deliberately placed around her waist and under her elbow. It's very odd. I dont have a theory but just pointing this out.
more comic series please!!!!
Coming soon!
@@Swell-Films you the man.
Please 🙏 🙏 cover the hospital scenes from Season 1, Episode 1, and Season 1, Episode 6 of The Walking Dead.
Is it me or the chained walker has something written on the forehead?
Shit!! I forgot all about this.
New here - but have you watched From? There’s probably infinite theory videos like this you could make. But then again, it’s unfinished. Fun all the same
I’ve actually been considering doing some “mystery explored” type videos for FROM, such a great show, I think I’m gonna wait till this seasons done though
