The "mars hydro" one you showed, if it's anything near the specs they say, you're gonna burn the shit out of your plants unless you keep them way far back, which will waste the light (and be kinda annoying for situations other than grow tents) and the smaller lights are much better options for houseplants, because you can place them closer to the plant without burning the leaves, which makes it possible to hide the lights a little better.

@@TheJungleHaven they seem to like it. The light is blueish white more so than even cool white "normal" leds. The leds in tv's are 1-2 watt range each and there is about 60 watts worth in a 40 inch tv. I keep a look out for tvs on bin day now.
I think it was important to emphasize the need to research the light needs of each plant. I saw a video comparing the growth of a flowering plant under a 30w vs 15w bulb. The plant under the 15w grew more luscious leaves while the 30w grew small leaves and at a slower rate. However, the latter produced flowers first. I wonder if this means that plants with less light in general produce more leaves to try to catch more light for growth therefore producing more green foliage... Thanks for making this video I got a lavender plant as a gift I read online they need a lot of light so I was wondering if I can just use my aquarium lights?
To my knowledge unless you're up close enough for a grow light to burn your skin, I don't know of any negative side effects of having them in and around your home. In regards to regular LEDs, I've never personally tried it, but have heard that you can use regular LEDs so long as it provides enough PAR for your plants (I wouldn't have thought it would be as effective though)
You actually need a combination of blue and red and they must be LED grow lights which are designed to provide Photosynthetic Active Radiation (PAR) which the plant uses for photosynthesis - regular white LEDs have little effect on a plant’s growth rate
Overall take on this video according to my understanding, led lights are not as expensive to use while others are. White lights cover all areas of the spectrum and need to be as close or as far away from said plant to get the right amount of light.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge on this. Personally I’ve never thought about getting a grow light as I’ve always wanted to keep plants in a natural environment. (I know keeping tropical plants in a U.K. home probably isn’t natural) but you know what I mean. I didn’t like the idea of using electricity on keeping my plants alive. However I’m worried about winter when the light starts to fade and reduce down. I have lots of Calatheas and at the moment they are growing well at the back of my west facing room but I fear come winter their current location will be too dark.

Where can I find the "grow light" requirements for my individual plants? I'm new to this internet stuff and not good at it. Would you please point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance...:)
I have the pink ones in all shapes and sizes now since ten yrs or something i started.. i found out that if i Hang some normal led white light in between the pink lights, then the plants grow Fuller and at this moment the spatyphillium is giving a flower.. i lóve the phyto lights.. your plants even love them more.. and hobby cost money so why not this. Its great fun. Its just that in allwaus insecure in how many hours i should give them a day cos you can give to much and then they grow so fast that you wear them out.. and also i am insecure on which part of the day i should give it to them.. they have just show their grow sign.. so then i always lesson the hours from 12 to 6.. and in spring 3 and summer nun.. but i dont know réally what im doing.. just doing my best 😬🤷🙂👋
Hi ! Love your videos. I set up a grow cabinet earlier this year and now that it’s summer I’m having issues with temperatures getting up to the 90s F inside the cabinet. I’ve tried better ventilation bringing in cooler air but the humidity drops so fast and defeats the purpose. I assume the issue is the heat coming off the grow lights but they’re Leds so I don’t think that I can find anything that runs cooler. If I split up the light schedule into 2 and turn off mid day and allow everything to cool down then turn back on to complete the necessary hours, do you think that will cause issues? Or do you have a better suggestion?
Where have you got your cabinet is it getting full sun throughout the day ? If it’s fully sealed glass then it will get super hot it is a green house after all it’s rare your led lights are going to cause such high temperatures like that unless the electric system itself is producing the heat or it’s already hot from the day probably best to move it that’s if it is getting heavy sun
Searching for beginners grow lights, watched this for half a second, saw a dog and subscribed ☺️ 🐦🐦🪨 Triggered by the Tail hitting plants for sure but my pups loves being a jungle dog ☺️
@@TheJungleHaven there are several I can't remember the name of the one I used because I have stand alone light meter anyway. They give same reading as my meter and also give you a red, green, blue balance reading which my meter doesn't do.
I’m just getting into plants and this is probably a stupid question but are plants that are toxic to dogs not safe in the home? I have two shih Tzus who can’t reach my plants but I avoid toxic as I don’t know if it affects the air or only toxic if they are eaten? Pls help
I’m curious if you know or have heard of any of the LED grow lights damaging furniture, fabrics, electronics, just different materials, in general, if they are placed or have to be placed in close proximity due to space (apartment)? I want to try using grow lights but want to be cautious about what type. Thank you!
Hiya, I've personally never known that to happen. From my own experience I've had grow lights around the house for years and haven't noticed any damage ☺️
I am in a dark apartment and the landlord pays the electric bill. How much light can I provide my plants before the landlord notices a jump in the bill? Is this something I should limit or can I go all out? I understand if you are not able to answer this question. Thank you.
I have a massive elephant ear plant with 3 foot leaves and about 6 feet tall ( leaf point up) . I had to move it to an western facing window but about 10-15 feet away as it’s the closet I can get it now. I’m worried about winter and the lack of light . How many 6500 kelvin bulbs would you use to keep it happy . Please help I don’t want it to suffer .😢
I have lots of plants that need sun, and here in Wisconsin we don’t get much light nor sun 😒sun goes down around 4, so my plants are sad and I’m in need of one also I have lots of plants that don’t but still I feel bad 😞
I know the feeling - I live in a north facing basement room, and my plants definitely wouldn't be happy without grow lights. I'm sure yours will perk up once you add in some good artificial light 💚
Most plants like more light than you would think. Growlights are fine for those plants too just keep it a little further away from the plant to not burn it
thank you for the video it waw really helpful!! i have a question though. next month i'll be moving and in the new apartment i'll have to close the binds whenever i'm not home (so basically all day long). so the plants would only get a bit of natural light in the morning and evening, and not at all in winter. would grow lights be enough to compensate?
Thank you for a very informative video about grow lights. If i bring a couple or three plants( 4 ft Monstera Deliciosa, 4 ft. Orange bird of paradise and a small birkin plant) in our basement that has only one very small window, will they be ok with just the grow lights with full spectrum lights for 12 hours?
Hey Chris! They'd be absolutely fine under full spectrum lights, but with such big plants just make sure to invest in lights that cover a larger area (as I talk about in the video). For tall plants it's also sometimes worth having a few different grow light sources so they can receive light from multiple angles and not just above too. Hope this helps x
Is there an advantage to using the white lights instead of purple, apart from the looks? Do they provide „better“ light because its a full spectrum? Or are they less intense?
They usually provide a full spectrum of light, whereas purple lights (although can be full spectrum) tend to give a higher concentration of red and blue - there are benefits to both for different plants/maturity of plants (as I spoke about in the video). For example, I'll use grow lights with a higher balance of red for my propagations and seedlings x
Full spectrum white led’s are usually better for all situations but can get different kelvin ratings depending on your needs. If you want a higher red spectrum go for 3000 kelvin white diodes, if looking for a bluer spectrums you could potentially go up to 6000kelvin. You can also get white diode lights with some added red diodes for a more red spectrum if needed, the purple grow lights tend to advertise full spectrum benefits but are rarely used nowadays for any type of horticulture in favour of white led’s as plants just seem to like that type of led a lot more.

The intro to this video already has me hooked 😂
Do you have any specific source recommendations when researching plants' lighting needs?
Thanks for this video! I am wondering if grow lights can cause skin damage (alike to the sun)? Also, do regular LED lights benefit plants at all?
To my knowledge unless you're up close enough for a grow light to burn your skin, I don't know of any negative side effects of having them in and around your home. In regards to regular LEDs, I've never personally tried it, but have heard that you can use regular LEDs so long as it provides enough PAR for your plants (I wouldn't have thought it would be as effective though)
If your using white led diodes, they emit so little uv that it’s very unlikely to cause any sort of skin issues.
Now I’m hoping the grow light I purchased will work. Should have watched this video first!
Thank you for this! Just found this video and found it helpful understanding how to do with my 20+ cacti in dark sweden thank you!

What is a good source for consistent information about a plant’s individual needs?
Thank you for all the great information! Really do appreciate you taking the care.❤
You actually need a combination of blue and red and they must be LED grow lights which are designed to provide Photosynthetic Active Radiation (PAR) which the plant uses for photosynthesis - regular white LEDs have little effect on a plant’s growth rate

Hey David, I don't have a video of the Mars Hydro ones as I don't currently have them set up, however I've got a video of my Mother grow lights (Grow Light Shelf Plant Tour) showing the full set up! That video is on my channel and I uploaded it about a month ago
Its just that in allwaus insecure in how many hours i should give them a day cos you can give to much and then they grow so fast that you wear them out.. and also i am insecure on which part of the day i should give it to them.. they have just show their grow sign.. so then i always lesson the hours from 12 to 6.. and in spring 3 and summer nun.. but i dont know réally what im doing.. just doing my best 😬🤷🙂👋
extremely helpful thankyou for making this vid
Mini humidifier controlled by a humidity sensor game changer
Where have you got your cabinet is it getting full sun throughout the day ? If it’s fully sealed glass then it will get super hot it is a green house after all it’s rare your led lights are going to cause such high temperatures like that unless the electric system itself is producing the heat or it’s already hot from the day probably best to move it that’s if it is getting heavy sun
I like to turn my grow lights on at night. Should I not put them on my Prayer plants because it might interrupt their cycle of opening and closing?
How many hours should the grow light be on every day?
Thanks for the great info! ❤
1st I have to say you are gorgeous. ❤️ anyways love the review you were a very big help :)
Searching for beginners grow lights, watched this for half a second, saw a dog and subscribed ☺️ 🐦🐦🪨
Triggered by the Tail hitting plants for sure but my pups loves being a jungle dog ☺️
Thank you so much! I'm a bit confused about the bulbs. Can I just buy a grow light bulb and put it in any lamp? Thank you to anyone who can help! 😊😊
Do you measure the light at the leaf
with a lightmeter? You can download an app on phone.
That's really useful to know, what's the name of the app?
@@TheJungleHaven there are several I can't remember the name of the one I used because I have stand alone light meter anyway. They give same reading as my meter and also give you a red, green, blue balance reading which my meter doesn't do.
Do you take any precautions with protecting your eyes from all the LED lights?
Excellent, informative video!
How do I know if an LED light can be used as a grow light? I have a great under counter light I want to use
I’m just getting into plants and this is probably a stupid question but are plants that are toxic to dogs not safe in the home? I have two shih Tzus who can’t reach my plants but I avoid toxic as I don’t know if it affects the air or only toxic if they are eaten? Pls help
I have a wetland plant that I plan to grow indoor should I buy a grow light for it?
I’m curious if you know or have heard of any of the LED grow lights damaging furniture, fabrics, electronics, just different materials, in general, if they are placed or have to be placed in close proximity due to space (apartment)? I want to try using grow lights but want to be cautious about what type. Thank you!
Hiya, I've personally never known that to happen. From my own experience I've had grow lights around the house for years and haven't noticed any damage ☺️
Which one is the one behind you? You have links for two different flexible lights and I can’t tell which is which
can I use a regular ikea spotlight lamp with LED regular warm white for indoor plants?
Do you also have a recommendation for a growlight with only one strip?
This was so helpful thank you 🙂
Hi!
I bought a construction site led light with 10.000 lumen, do you think this is suitable for my succulent plants?
Thx for your answer 🤗
Amazing video, thank you so
I am in a dark apartment and the landlord pays the electric bill.
Please help I don’t want it to suffer .😢
if Rey Skywalker was a real person and loved plants^^^
But seriously, great content! Thank you!
Thanks for sharing. Very informative and to the point. Love that accent btw :) Takes me back decades ago when I used to date British girls lol.
What about plants that need indirect light?
Most plants like more light than you would think. Growlights are fine for those plants too just keep it a little further away from the plant to not burn it
I have a question is it possible to use normal led strip light RGB? OR a house bulb 💡?
thank you for the video it waw really helpful!!
i have a question though. next month i'll be moving and in the new apartment i'll have to close the binds whenever i'm not home (so basically all day long). so the plants would only get a bit of natural light in the morning and evening, and not at all in winter. would grow lights be enough to compensate?
Brilliant, thank you 🙂
Great video!!
I have just found you on UA-cam! This was very helpful 👍☺️ Thanks.
I'm glad it helped 💚
Ok thanks 👍
so what lights should i use for foliage green vine-y plants? i’m new ❤️
Is there an advantage to using the white lights instead of purple, apart from the looks?
