Absolute insanity Mike. How can you not be disappointed when it’s damaged. For $2800 it should have been hand delivered to you from an Interscope employee!!
I'm not thrilled but it is a charity record. That is not lost on me. It would be deferent if someone was pocketing my $$ - I'll still email them on it this weekend.
It was said that Miss Del Rey didn't like the cover's artwork ... I got myself the Picture Disc for 100 dollars which, in my opinion, feels like a better option than the black standard vinyl. But i really appreciate someone gave us the "insides" about the expensive version. Thank You!
What possible reason could there be for an lp to cost that much? Honestly that’s insane. No autograph. No mofi sleeve. A single lp that came with scratch. Dented artwork. Glue stains. Peeling artwork. Oh brother.
The cover is cool. Maybe $500-600 level cool. At $2800 I don't think I could resist giving the damn thing a spin. A secret message from Lana somewhere in the grooves? Peeling off the outer layer of the Gucci box to reveal obscene artwork? Something...anything?
This collection was done without Lana's permission, she wasn't very thrilled with this either she posted a story on her Instagram calling the records something between the lines of " not something I personally would have thought of but very interesting take dot dot dot"
For the price, I think it's a huge ripoff. They could have at least pressed it at 45rpm. Made it a double vinyl with a gatefold. And added a print of the artwork! I don't give any fucks that it's in a "Gucci" box. Who cares? But like you stated, at least some of the money is going to charity but that's insanely expensive.
Ohh dear Mike is that two months worth of albums you would buy in to your store ,would of liked to see her signature on the album and her phone number.
Giclee = glorified inkjet print. Meaning it only costs a few dollars to print out. And although the print is archival, the fact they glued it down to the outer jacket means over time it'll probably discolor the print.
Giclee is a pretty fine type of ink to use and it's used in art prints all the time. However, it has a matte finish and can scratch fairly easily so it seems strange to do this for an artwork on a record that you can't take out. It would have been neat if the giclee print was on top of the record and you could have taken it off while another version of the artwork was printed on the jacket itself.
Being that you're a true fan, it's a very nice thing to have. The charity part of it definitely makes it feel less of a frivolous purchase. Good for you and thanks for sharing!!
Fascinating! Quite honestly, for $2800 all-in it should be absolutely perfect - blemish, scratch and delamination (cover) free AND the artist should have signed it!
she actually posted when it came out that she didn’t like the art and it wasn’t picked out by her. that’s why she decided not to sign it. the only reason it’s worth that much is because jenna gribbon designed it and it’s an edition out of a 100 for such a famous artist
Cost of living through the roof, energy prices going up allmost 200%. $2800 for a record, one of the most ridiculous things I have seen. It’s for charity 👏🏼
One of the most beautiful covers I’ve ever seen on a record is Roxy Music’s, Avalon. I splashed out £30 on the half speed master version recently and it arrived in perfect condition, plays beautifully and can be stored in my record rack. If I’m being objective, the second hand 1st UK edition of Flesh and Blood, bought from an antiques shop for £5, sounds equally good after I gave it a good clean on my Project VC-E. Obviously, I’m a peasant but I can’t imagine a world in which a pretty cover in a fancy box is 3k.
Hi Mike just think you could buy any one of Elvis Presley’s first 5 Sun 78s for that sort of money and boy would that look fantastic hanging in the store and speaking of Elvis is your Lincoln Continental the same model as the one Elvis drives on to the MGM lot in Thats The Way It Is I think it is a 69 Mark 3 a very cool car . Glad the money went to charity because what you have there looks worth less than a hundred bucks love your channel cheers Carl Australia .
I saw the orders come up for those Interscope 30 titles back last. I am a huge Nine Inch Nails fan, and 2 NIN classic titles were included. I was tempted, but I just didn't pull the trigger. Thanks for doing this video and making me glad that I didn't. 😆
They probably commissioned a new master for this release as I don't see Steve Hall at Masterdisk credited as mastering engineer in any of the previous version. Anyway, I hope you or any of the 99 other owners will add the release to Discogs. (It is Scott Hull at Masterdisk, not Steve Hall who is at Future Disc.)
I seriously can't even believe that they charged such a premium for the absolute bare minimum packaging-wise. They should have at least bothered to include art/liner notes from the album era or at least an insert from the artist in the box. Considering this is one of the highest-selling records of the last decade (and all time I believe) I wonder why they didn't bother to expand on the art in the packaging since that was the intent behind these boxsets, or at least that's how they were advertised. This album is about as commonplace to find as Rumors or Tapestry and its kind of a shame that they dropped the ball on these releases.
lana del rey did not like the designs, it is not her that picked them out, and she posted that she didn’t love the designs and how they interpreted the album, they made other versions for 2 other albums, and this being out of a 100 for such a mainstream/known artist, and it being designed by jenna gribbon is why it is worth so much.
If you had donated $2800 to a charity and got nothing in return, everyone would applaud you for your generosity. But when your donation gets you a limited edition print of an artist you love in return, people think you're an idiot. Funny how that works.
Thanks for the chuckle Mike. What in the world were they thinking when they put that booklet together with separate pages on it? Anyway glad you spent your money to entertain us.
The only reason to buy any vinyl costing more than $40 is if it's #1, a great album, and #2, was recorded/mixed/mastered/cut entirely analog. This is just letting record labels think: they have total control over the consumer, vinyl is for suckers, sound quality doesn't matter. Charity....probably after it pays for their label guys to take car services and fancy lunches on the artist's budget to discuss marketing the project.
I read about this series back in like December or January. I had no idea these were boutique issues, I thought they were just going to be wide re-releases of 100 impactful albums from Interscope.
I paid $$$$ for a Velvet Underground and Nico minty unpeeled banana. I’m a huge Warhol fan so I thought of it as artwork. If you love it, it doesn’t matter what other people think. Cheers!
Hi Mike. For Gucci you always pay a prize. Hope all is going to charity! The artwork looks great! And if you collect all from Lana del Rey, you can't miss this one. Congratulations with this purchase! Greetings from Belgium
Oh man, your disappointment was palpable. I'm feeling a twinge and I didn't pay for it. I'll get so much more joy from my Blue Note stereo and mono Blue Trains on Friday, total cost
Nice cover. But at this price point?!?! Since when do you have this integrated streaming amplifier? Looks like Cambridge Audio Evo 75/150? How do you like it? Thanks for sharing! Greetings from Germany
This record makes me want to buy that special Eye in the Sky gold foil edition that Mike was selling a few months ago . I hope your not sold out of them
It's your money so enjoy. Personally, I hope it is going to charity. I would start with wearing gloves touching a $2800 album and taking pictures of the damage. With a scratch and dent version, I hope there's some kind of restitution in the way of a future purchase reduction or swap for a truly mint version. There's no excuse for damage at that price.
Masterdisk SH = Masterdisk Scott Hull. Most, if not all, previous US pressings were cut at NRP and pressed at United. The European 2 LP version sounds significant better, bordering on reference quality, and has bonus tracks.
Aloha Mike Awesome! Mike if it was one of my favorite artists & I had the funds for it why not ! Your a collector true and true. Enjoy your amazing collection & Lana del rey
You could still frame some of the images, you just need to frame 2 pages together to get the one image. Totally more than I would spend for a record but to each his or her own.
This was hard to watch. And I enjoy unboxing videos especially vinyl rarities. I also think vinyl packages like this harm the industry in so many ways and as a collector Im intentionaly careful about buying a product that really doesn't offer the content to match the price ask. I mean it's new, but they are basically selling it at some point down the road 15-50 years in the future appreciated value. And once other vinyl companies see what people are willing to pay watch out bcs they will follow the trend. Just like the auto industry, gas prices, and most hifi equipment prices. And when we support companies that do this we kill the industry for everyone bcs quality goes bye bye and bcs they know all they have to do is slap on a sticker only 100 made and maybe toss is a copied prints of artwork or photo copy of the singers signature on the label etc, and then throw a %2800 tag on it, but didn't even bother to press in 45rpm that would have a superior in some cases or equal but at least in 45 we all feel like there was intent to make it better. Anyways sorry I just think this needs to be pointed out so we can all keep vinyl strong. I was entertained by the unboxing and praise your bravery for opening a $2800 record in front of us.
I was happy to share vicariously in a collectors happiness. I always like those guys and any small insight into their thinking is gratifying . Collectors knowledge and willingness to share has greatly benefited my humble accumulation of records through the years, but mostly I find out they are not worth selling. one thing a gentleman should know is to never kick about price when donating to charity, just be glad the situation is not reversed, and you are not the recipient , to answer some of the comments I observed.
I'm putting out a one-step flexi disc of the audio of this unboxing, then I'm going to release them all, each one tied to a helium balloon, launch them at 6am on the next record store day outside MOFI headquarters, then I'm gonna put the lacquers on discogs and charge 1000 euro for hand delivery, dressed as 45 rpm
Why do so many new vinyl releases come with cheap paper or card inner sleeves? I am getting more and more messages, emails and comments about the effect these are having with vinyl albums. Paper dust, scratches, pops and clicks, static problems. Most of these can be eradicated by cleaning the the vinyl or buying a polylined inner sleeve, but why should you have to? Polylined inner sleeves should be supplied as standard and ideally a move towards 'anti static archival sleeves which could actually be part of the advertising blurb! - Great video and channel - Phil
Nice presentation, Mike. I suppose if one can afford it and is a collector of many (allegedly rare & desirable) things, they should get it. I don't need (or want) it or any LP at that price.
As a lifelong vinyl fan, things like this are completely ridiculous and stupid. It gives vinyl fans a a bad name and would even convince me to tell someone who thinking about getting into vinyl not to bother as it's becoming a complete ripoff. Scratched, dirty and to top it all off a 'GC' pressing.

Yes, hand - er - delivered by Lana herself!
$2800??? That makes you nuttier than a squirrel turd! 🤣
It's gonna be a lot harder denying Angel that 👜 After a purchase this goofy.
It's funny seeing Mike slowly trying to come up with reasons to justify this purchase lol
Sounds like another Mike I know hahahaha

So Angel gets a Gucci purse, and you get a Gucci record box. Way to keep the spousal scales in balance, Mike.
You KNOW Angel will use expense this to lobby for a new purse (and I wouldn’t blame her frankly).
She got her purse after the last livestream.
Ya know, I love records. It's borderline addiction at times and I'd rather have the purse.
Hahaha.. I’d get the purse as well!! A man’s purse! Hahahhaa
