    I just wanna say thanks for all your videos! Yesterday my Ps5 controller started to stick drift and I ended up switching out the potentiometer from a working donor board. I used all the tips and tricks i learned from your channel and the controller is now fixed. I have tried to do that in the past and messed up badly. Thanks to your channel, I was able to get back to gaming. I also saved the world from complaints by getting rid of the messy solder. It is now better than factory!

    We used to use Closed cycle IPA UltraSonic cleaning baths with a refrigerated top condensing fume capture at a Military PCB production factory back in the mid 1980's. we could clean boards upto 50cm wide. They are nice bits of kit, but are expensive, so not suitable for a small business.

And your intro played while you were still talking about it. Also the timeline on YT ended but still kept going so for the last like 20 seconds there is just a black screen. I don't think as it's my YT bugging out as it persisted after a page refresh. It isn't video-breaking but could you please fix this? Other than that I really like what you do and I still find it amazing how quickly you can fix devices with your knowledge!

  • @ntag411
    @ntag411 Рік тому

    I've experienced the same/similar on digital commercial tape drives in the 80s in manufacturing in Monrovia, CA. Usually the output power devices will blow and replacement of the output transistors of the preamp will resolve the issue. In a few cases, uncommon, the pre-stage drivers of this preamp to these output transistors on this same board will also blow. The tape drives are soaked for 2 weeks, drives will usually fail well within this soak environmental test. Most common are the power transistors of the power amp, a separate circuit board with a huge heatsink. The TO3 transistors will blow probably because of an imbalance. Sometimes this will damage the output of the preamp board.
    Virtually all failures are power related for power supplies, controls, sensors and tape drives. Seldom does a logic (chip) fail (probably less than 1% of all failures) because back in the day things were comparatively conservative. Today chips and near components do fail, consumer goods, because they are basically overdriven or overclocked.
    It was a time when virtually any schematic, pictorial diagram or perhaps theory of operation could be had for any product. The days when Heathkit and others like it were still around.

All pads have melted and on one side of the VRM, the pads are not even making contact. A good set of high end pads and TIM lowered that by 20°C.

At least Alex is getting alot of business from failed Asus laptops and with any luck he will have enough experience with them to find a surefire way to fix many of them. But I have a feeling it's sadly a case of cheap components causing the failures or even worse flaws in the motherboard. The parts shortage is a good excuse for companies as well I suppose..

    It always makes me wonder, how are you sure that there isn't a solder bridge under a chip when you squeeze it out at last heating? Is the surface tension enough to make them break apart under the chip? If the blobs flow out then there must be more than enough under to cause bridging. I'm always scared of making a short in this way, but I'm curious of your methods and pardon my ignorance if it was already answered in other videos :) I love seeing your skills and how happy you are when stuff is fixed!

      If you haven't noticed, there is a HUGE component shortage on the market. Beggars can't be choosers.

    How is an ultrasonic machine meant to ignite IPA? It only uses vibration and sound waves to cause cavitation. The only risk is the formation of vapour but used in a well ventilated area it's fine.

    • @NorthridgeFix
      @NorthridgeFix  Рік тому +1

      Ultrasonic machines has heaters that can be set to specific temperatures. Not only vibrations. Inhaling fumes is a health hazard in addition to IPA being flammable. Cleaning solution exist that does a similar or better job without the risks.

      @rickydenton1982 Рік тому

      @NorthridgeFix but it's electrically isolated from the liquid to prevent short circuit so there's no risk of a spark and doesn't get close to the temperature required for IPA to auto-ignite, which is 399⁰C.

      Search google and take it from there. Just because someone used IPA and nothing happened doesn't make it right, like a 90 year old smoker who tells you smoking did not harm him does not make cigarettes safe.

    Hi, what is the purpose of the zero ohm resistors in this instance?

    • @gobxo
      @gobxo Рік тому +2

      Hi! This is from Google:
      "Zero ohm resistors are the perfect remedy to 'magically' route a single layer board. Rather than making holes and turning the PCB into a double-layer structure, you can route a trace between the pads of a zero ohm resistor. These resistors are then assembled along with other components during the manufacturing process."

    • @Exarhadsgfds
      @Exarhadsgfds Рік тому +4

      They are used as "jumpers" to route traces over other traces on the same layer

      @Gruxxan Рік тому

      @@Exarhadsgfds yeah but i dont see a trace going under the resistor so i thought maybe there is another reason

    That board view at 4:00 shows a lot of "muck" over the board. Do you clean such boards, as the dirt could cause short-circuits and strange behaviour.

    Right to repair in action. Of course you'll need several years of experience and the right equipment, but it is still possible.

    What is the white almost like a light salt crust on some
    Parts of this board, similar as you see on a sailboat after being at sea for a short trip and getting sprayed by waves?? Ps thanks for the interesting video's that show your work
