In 1965. when I was 16yo. I hitchhiked from Denver to Los Angels to see my girlfriend. It took 2 days sleeping in the bushes. But I made it, had a good time. My parent's bought me a bus ticket back home to Denver. Today, I would not hitchhike, too dangerous. Peace, J from TX
I’ve never hitchhiked, but from the few hitchhiking vlogs I’ve watched I learnt that you are extremely unlikely to get a ride trying to get one inside city limits no matter where you are in the world. People seem to have better success by having a sign and hanging around gas stations. If you had a sign saying ‘I’m visiting from England and trying to hitchhike across the US’ - I bet loads of people would approach you and offer a ride because of the novelty Not hopping the train barriers was a good move. If you commit a crime whilst visiting (even minor ones) you could find you are refused entry next time to try to fly into the US. Minor traffic offences don’t count, but I think hopping one of those barriers and getting caught doing it likely would. Looking forward to the next part
I think that was exactly my worry about hopping the barriers. Plus I'm a visitor and have a lot of respect for the country i'm visiting. Before flying to NYC I thought about making a sign saying I was visiting from the UK but I got lazy and thought I could still manage. But to be fair it was my first time attempting to hitchhike and my gut was telling me it was a bad idea lol. 600 quid down the drain but at least I learnt that hitchhiking/ being homeless is no joke, my first night was super rough. Just the first step though, definitely not going to give up. Maybe I'll try walking/hitchhiking Washington to California next time.

Love it. Takes a lot of balls to do what you did brother. Hopefully I can build up the courage another time to attempt it again!
