This was my first ever woodworking project, and I couldn't be happier!! No need for special tools or even a saw, and I did everything in my living room! Fantastic project if you are looking to utilize your space, but still have a sturdy cutting/sewing table.
I have created a written tutorial along with a 12 min video to show certain steps of the process!

I know it's been 2 years, but I just used your plans to build a cutting table for my wife. I was absolutely shocked at what a quality wood cutting table goes for these days (north of $1k). In my price range, I didn't want to spend more than $200. But the table had to be durable. So, using your dimensions, the base of the cabinet is 3/4" sanded plywood, and the top is 3/4" melamine. I had the big box store cut the sheets "close" to what I wanted, then cut them close on my trusty little table saw (had to learn how to cut melamine without it chipping). Project is coming out nicely for a total cost of about $150 and should last forever.

I’ve did this exact table 2 years ago and still working perfectly!!! My Serger & brother machines fit at bottom cubbie, top cubbie have all my sewing needs. Top of table I bought cutting mats and glue them as guidance when cutting my material or crafting. Yet I just bought a coverstitch machine and it’s a bit wider then my first two so now I’m building a new sewing table also with the same features of open side tables just with extra storage to fit my three machines!!

I had been searching hours upon hours for a craft table like this! ♥♥♥ I didn't like the reviews for some of the branded products, began searching for a DIY version and came upon your video. ♦ I'm super stoked to try this but combine it with some other ideas -like creating a butcher block type surface (because multitasking furniture is desired when one has limited space), using pre-fab table legs, and making it counter height. ^_^ ♦ Thanks for the awesome build and the enthusiastic, can-do spirit!!!

Please consider wearing dust mask when sanding and cutting MDF because it contains formaldehyde.
I would also add wear a mask when drilling as well and either jerry rig a vacuum hose to your tools to collect the just at the same time you create it or have a third hand with you to follow along right behind your tools for the same reason. Said third hand can also help to lift and flip the work as it gets larger. Btw, I love the hinges you put on the piece.
Brilliant. I have a store-bought table like this, but the folding legs are broken. Now I know how to fix them. I just need to find those hinges.

Leslie Graham you have to measure the width & height of your machines so that they can slide easily at both cubbies... open leaf tables will follow the height of your table (with or w/out wheels) and same with the 4 legs. It’s an easy project 😀
I made a tutorial on google docs. I based it off another tutorial, but changed the dimensions and added a lot more info if you’ve never done wood working before. No problem! Here’s the google doc tutorial. I based it off another tutorial, but changed the dimensions and added a lot more info. The original tutorial assumed certain wood working knowledge that I did not have. Researched a lot so hopefully newbies can make it to! This was my first and only wood working project and it’s still going strong one year later with almost daily use :D
