That’s why you are only reporters working for B/R in US! You don’t understand how hard it is to be an athlete in HONG KONG. Most of the athletes don’t get supported by the government as there are rarely professional league, e.g in women and men’s soccer, or basketball, or softball, baseball. You have to work 2 part time jobs just to make ends meet and fight to rent limited soccer fields to practice. Most athletes in HK are amateur and not supported financially by the government or universities and the like. It’s lucky to be athletes in US where you get scholarships and now the NIL programs. Only a fraction of the athletes are financially supported by the government. In all fairness, it’s hell working 2 jobs and be training part time, you oftentimes don’t get to the results before you have to give up your dreams of playing soccer professionally. If I have the leverage in the future, I will go buy a J League (J1) team and provide a pathway for HK soccer players to grow.
