The IOC gave the organization of Olympic qualification in the nations own hands. In this case it fell into the hands of dancesport Australia which specify in ballroom, so they reached out to Rachel gun which they thought was an Expert in breaking. She adviced to partner up with the Australian breaking federation which surprise surprise is founded by Rachel Gunn and her husband and which has 20 members in total - they organized the qualification for australias entry team in breaking and surprise surprise again Rachel was chosen (her husband was one of the judges who made the call)
So yeah there most definitely were better option for the Olympic breaking team but the deliberately choose to send themselves.

If u actually knew the dedication that these ppl go thru to be good enough to go to the Olympics for example Synchronize swimming or water dancing as u called it. Let's see if u could hold ur breathe under water as u lift ur team mate out of the water and still be in synch with everyone else and still have the musicality on top of that. The ones that actually have real talent have given up everything for that one passion I think is incredible. I think that an athlete is anyone who can put in the hardwork, time, and have to perform in ways most normal average person can't do is what makes a true sportsman. Also riding horses isn't just sitting on top of a horse. One has to have strong legs and core plus balance. U would know what it feels like after riding a horse for hours and how sore ur body feels afterwards. They also have to be able to have trust between the person and horse as well.

"Makes a mockery of her sport?" It should never be a sport at all, and it's supposed to be about fun and self-expression. I don't see it that way at all, this is reminiscent of Emmanuel Augustus unfairly losing a lot of boxing matches to decision because the judges basically all hated his signature unorthodox style, hated that he was always dancing around his opponents, and thought that he was generally "bad for the sport". So, what works for you might not work for everyone else, the things you like aren't the same things and the same standards everyone else holds.

This was a farce. There's a great article on one of Australia's news sites that explains that the federation in charge of selecting the breakers is the World DanceSport Federation, a group aligned to BALLROOM DANCING. The organizers of actual break dancing competitions around the world for decades had no part in the selection process.
And who was one of the people who organized Oceania's Olympic qualifier? Raygun herself.
There's just no way that Raygun represented the best that Australia had to offer. And while I never condone the kind of hate campaigns that regularly happen on the internet these days, Raygun did a real disservice to breakers, especially the talented ones in Australia. If she really cared to get Australia's best, she would've reached out to the right people instead of using this as an opportunity to call herself an Olympian.

@@sadiemoland2157 I think the sport is more athletic. I'm not sure if she is.

If she was actually good at break dancing, no one would have laughed at her.

When I watched her 'perform'' I really thought it was a prank, a JOKE. And the actual dancers would come on afterwards. She's ruined any possibility of having breaking dancing as a permanent sport modality at the Olympics. She embarrassed the whole nation. And she took the spot of a real breaking dancer. Shame on her!

Didn't she have to go through qualifiers and stuff? Did all the real b girls say I'm not participating in this foolishness. Didn't someone have to sign off on this? 🤦‍♀️🙄

Honestly, i don’t blame her, there are people who truly believe they can sing, or dance etc. The judges during the qualifiers shouldn’t have picked her, they fed into her delusion and gave her a spot in the Olympics. I honestly feel bad for her, she probably worked hard and thought she did great, and because the judges didn’t say anything, or even her coach! So in the end, the public did.

If it makes you feel any better, she wasnt the reason breaking is going to be discontinued. Since 2020, the host of the olympics decides sports they wanna add and others they wanna drop. France chose breaking, and the LA olympics in 2028 didnt keep it (the sports list should be decided, at the latest time possible, 7 years before the competition)

the fact that she's still horrible after 12 years proves she doesn't actually respect the artform

Defending this is a hate crime against any legitimate breakdancer.
