    Super helpful! This exact thing started happening with my ‘17 Forrester two days ago. Starts right at 60mph intermittently. I was confused that the TPMS and in-car alignment indicators didn’t show anything wrong while this was happening! I was starting to think it was a computer/safety feature malfunction. I’ll go check these bushings and get it to the shop! Thank you sir!

    I have this exact issue, '15 Forester 70k miles. I needed new tires bad when I first noticed the issue and naturally thought, must be tires. New tires didn't fix it. At first it felt like I was hydroplaning at high speed but pavement was dry. It has gotten much worse with added wobble since. Now I see that the sensation was play in the steering from the deteriorated bushing. My husband referred to it as death wobble so I google and find your video! I have an appointment with my dealership Monday and I plan to share all of this info with them in hopes that it clarifies my issue for them and they can get down to business. Thanks so much! Your video makes me feel like I could do this myself!

    Thank you so much for this video. Even more for your intent to be a great mechanic and solve future issues with old ball joint removal, anti-seize on the cleaned up thru-bolt, and the overall professional effort you put forth to truly solve the vehicle's problem. BTW, my 2014 has a scary "death wobble" exactly as you described at anything over 60 MPH while negotiating a sweeping right hand turn, which caused me to search out this issue. Thank you again!

      Did you replace the entire lower control arm?
      You could replace just bushings by taking the LCA out at the machine shop you find. I got a shop to do bushing procedure $40 per bushing. Also make sure to replace the bolt and nut. I didn’t and the $3.00 self locking nut came loose. I used locktite red for the new nut I got, but that only lasted a month. I’m going to buy new bolt and nut and use red loctite to see if that fixes my right front LCA.

    I have a 15 forester and I am starting to get a small vibration in the front end that I bet most people wouldn't even notice. I am glad to hear it is just a bushing. I completely agree with changing the ball joint at the same time just because you are in there and ball joints are not crazy expensive. Can you tell us where to get the ball joint tool for Subaru ball joints?
    For at home mechanics I know of two different ways to load the suspension while the vehicle is in the air. 1st is use a jack to lift the control arm up (from a safe location if possible) until the vehicle is ever so slightly off your jack stands. 2nd is to use ramps like the Rhino Ramps under the wheel to load the suspension but still give you a lift. Some people will need to drive the vehicle up on the ramp because their jacks can't lift high enough to put the ramp under the tire.

    • @nicholaskeogh1121
      @nicholaskeogh1121 3 роки тому +1

      @@pudongski hey man. My issue ended up being the same as this guys problem. It was the bushes in my front control arms. Each control arm has two bushes, one of them has gone in both left and right arms. The fix is to replace the whole arm instead of the bush as it’s cheaper. A whole new arm will do all bushes, the arms and then a huge bearing as well, whereas if you just did the bush then you’d pay more to the labour to pull it all apart and press a new one in.
      I recorded a video of the shaking and showed my mechanic, he identified it immediately.

  • @LemonyFresh

    I have the same problem with the shaking starting at 50 and getting worse at 55-60
    i replaced the both control arm and the axels and it didn't solve the problem. the main reason i replaced everything is i had bad clicking on turns. now i took it back to the dealer for an oil change and inspection and they said the axel were messed up and they are brand new.. I got the axels from a part store that has a lifetime warranty but now hopefully if i change them this will fix the problem. this is some kind of common defect i keep hearing about in this car so annoying

  • @Trevathecleva82
    @Trevathecleva82 3 роки тому

    2015 forester 120k miles also has death rattle, very noticeable at 70mph under load only, goes away if you let off throttle. I've inspected the axles and the control arms. The axles seem ok, no broken boots or clicking. The bushings are all worn, RF being the worst. Similar to the video. I'm going to price out control and and bushings and replace the RF first. Will try to remember to update this comment.
    PS, Thank you for this video, I overlooked the front bushings on the first go through.

    Those front bushings have a ton of stress on them, suspension flex doesn't just twist in the direction they're designed for. They can't make them big enough to relieve stress because there will be too much flex. Weird setup, though hondas have similar arms.

    Hey just curious was the vibration temporarily relieved with mild steering input i.e. changing lanes on the highway?
    I just bought a used crosstrek for a daily. I thought the wobble may have been a tire balance issue and found all the front lugs crossthreaded and broke 4 wheel studs up front when i went to rotate 😆 I just ordered hub assemblies, struts and control arms and disassembled everything. Better not wobble anymore!

      @TheGAutomotiveAndMore  3 роки тому

      Could be the axle.

    • @davcar872
      @davcar872 2 роки тому

      I would drive in left and right circles in reverse in an empty parking lot to listen for clicking or grinding sounds coming from your CV axles to rule them out first, though, to rule them out completely you would need to inspect for torn boots and vertical play on the inside joints. Next, I would inspect control arms for worn bushings and ball joints. Also, check for worn outside tie rod ends, a cheap and very simple fix. If shuddering, shaking, vibration or wobble seems to occur while steering or veering left or right at highway speeds, the problem will most likely lie on the loaded side, the opposite side of the direction in which you were turning when the vibration is felt. In your case, I would inspect all suspension components on the front right side. This is just a very basic diagnostic inspection. A more thorough inspection could be needed to find the problem.
