What are your favorite spots in the Buda Castle district? Would you recommend any other places to see or foods to try out? Tell us in the comments below :)
We ❤ all your videos. We're in Budapest the month of September 2024 and watching your videos before we got here helped us so much!! Today we had creme cake from Ruszwurm Confectionery, one of the best cakes we ever tasted. We plan to be back to Budapest and look forward to watching your new videos ❤
Must have been wonderful to have easy access every evening to the wonderful view you get of the city from behind the church or next to the Palace building at the funicular :)
Love your videos, best videos about Hungary we found so far. Had the Kremes at Ruszwurm, in my opinion, best kremes ever! My wife’s Hungarian, but we live in the US, and going to Hungary in 3 weeks! Looking forward to visit the places mentioned in your videos!
Hello Akos! We are coming to Budapest next week! Thanks so much for your wonderful channel! I'm looking for a great restaurant in the district just east of the Margaret Bridge. We are going on a sunset cruise there too. Trouble is, I have a big group of 22 people! Which restaurants there are good, and big enough to accommodate our group? I'd appreciate your advice. - Jo Beck
Hey there! Within such a short time it may be a challenge to find space in restaurants for so many people to be honest. You can try VakVarjú or perhaps Vígvarjú if they have availability. (Vakvarju has a location in the city center but also a bit to the north close to Nyugati railway station). I know it's not close to Margaret bridge, but for large groups I sometimes have luck with Stex ház (close to Corvin metro station, they are decent, not great) I hope you can find a place available and will have a good time in Budapest!
I ate at Ruszwurm in 1996-7. Similar menu, quite tasty. In the video you said the Esterhazy cake is made with hazelnuts but when i had it I think walnuts were used. Pretty sure I had the strudel too...
Yeah these had walnuts not hazelnuts, I confused the two words when we recorded it 😅 Originally the recipe was with Almonds but Walnuts replaced those over time.
Hey there! I've been to the Gödöllő palace few times as a child, but over time it got renovated and want to visit Again, so in the future there may be a video about this excellent day trip location 😊
The problem with having both music and commentary on a video is that when I turn the music down, I miss the commentary. Is there a version of this video available without the music?
Another great video, your videos are really helpful.how much is the funicular? Your video saying 1400huf but when I look its saying 5000huf. I know this video 2 years old.
@@bensprigg9834hey there! Unfortunately in the past years they not only increased the price but removed one way option, so now it's two ways only and for a lot more money. While it's a historic vehicle, I would advise to take the bus instead, you can then walk down around the Funicular and see it up close and take some nice pictures of it 😊
Thank you for your excellent videos! We are coming to Budapest in July and I am using all your videos to plan my trip! One question, how enclosed are the rooms in the labyrinth and Hospital in the Rock? I’m slightly claustrophobic and am trying to figure out if I can handle it?
Hey there! Both have hallways like cellars or bunkers do, they aren't too narrow, but they are indeed underground places where space is limited. I am not an expert and have no friends or relatives who are claustrophobic, so it's difficult for me to tell :( The Hospital in the rock has an active Facebook page, perhaps you can reach out to them there, they may have more experience with visitors who were in similar shoes :)
Hi, I know this video is two years old, but I will be in Budapest for the entire month of October 2024 so I started bing watching all of your videos, now my question is do I need to buy any of these places’s ticket in advance?
Hey there! No need to buy tickets in advence to the places in the Castle district. The only exception is the Cave Walking Tour (which is not shown in this particular video), for that an advance reservation is needed on GetYourGuide dot com. But for the rest like the Museums or the Matthias church you do not need an advance ticket 😊 I hope you'll enjoy your stay here during October 😊
I have problems in my legs but still wanted to visit the Fisherman's bastion How many steps do I have to negotiate to get to the level where St. Stephen's Statue ( on the horse ) is located ( I guess thats the lowest level . Please correct me If I am wrong ) Please reply...
Hey there! The Fisherman's bastion is actually on the same level as the castle district itself the statue is located there as well, there are some steps one can take to get a few more meters highers (like one floor in a building), but the views are also good on the base level. There's a bus stop closeby for buses 16, 16A and 116, you can easily get up to the district without taking stairs 😊 I hope this helps.
In the buda castle the only transportation I used was the Funicular to go up. We have spent almost all day there ☺️ but we also visited a lot of things. You don't need public transport in the castle district ☺️
Hey there! It depends on how much you wish to explore the castle District, if you go to see almost all the attractions, it's easy to spend the entire day, so you can start early (depending on the opening hours 😉) if you stick around till the sun sets you can look down at the Pest side of the city when things start to get illuminated 😊 hope you'll have a Great Time!
Hello! For the labirinth , you said that they accept only cash. They accept euros? For the Funicular they acccept cards? Or we have to have hungarian cash?
Hey there! Not sure if the Labyrinth accepts Euros, if they do it will be at a horrible conversion rate. But nothing about acceptance of Euro is available on their website. The Funicular normally accepts both cash and card. Generally it's best to have local currency as places accepting Euros will use much more worse conversion rates than Exchange vendors.
They operate every day except for few times when they do maintenance. Just note that the ticket prices have increased since the time of filming this. Now there is only a return ticket (up and down) available for 4000 HUF
According to their Website it's every Monday of every Odd numbered week for the duration of the maintenance. Not sure how long does that take usually, but I hope this info helps 😊
That tower is called the Huszártorony or Hussar Tower and it is made out of wood. I couldn't find any reasoning on the color but I would assume the reason for the distinct color compared to the rest of the building is because of the material it's made of :) Up until now I didnt know much about it, but thanks to your question I looked it up and it is called Hussar tower because it sits on the back of the church like a hussar on a horse. Because of this placement it needs to be light in weight, which is why its made of wood. I have also learned something today :)
Hey there, yes you can buy them on the spot ☺️ there was a change in the ticketing lately, I believe now there is only a return ticket available (so no one way ticket). For the latest, I would advise to check the official website (BKV website and search for Castle Funicular) Enjoy your stay 😊

I stayed two nights in the Castle District this month and loved every moment!

Spent two days there absolutely loved it

I like walnuts best in this cake anyways@@StuffedCabbageAdventures
Ruszwum is facing closure now I am afraid. In a few days from now. It's a scandal.
awesome, thank you
the map is very helpful
Have you visited Sisi’s Royal Palace in Gödöllő? Would love to see that. ❤

old world city. circa 1700? amazing

No there is not, but I have added subtitles if you want to watch it without sound. Hope that helps ☺️

How long did it take you to complete the Day? In winters should something change?
We spent at least 5-6hours there. Including the time visiting the coffees and eateries as well

Where can I buy tickets without tour ?
Hey there, for which attraction exactly are you looking for tickets?
Why is there a black tower on the Mattias church?
That tower is called the Huszártorony or Hussar Tower and it is made out of wood.
