Depth of field is also a good one to have on for certain players. Me personally, I have a strong astigmatism which makes things blurry already without vision correction (which i do have). I can't tell you why but with depth of field off, the world feels flat and I lose a great deal of depth perception so when ADSing with something like a shotgun, people can feel very close when theyre in mid range and sniper only range just 10 feet back. Its weird but it can be helpful for some people to keep on

    • @NightfallGemini
      @NightfallGemini Рік тому +4

as someone with astigmatism, I'm gonna take this under advisement. it'd be nice to have DoF off if only because it'd make lots of explosions less of a clusterfuk visually, but.. having the world feel flat seems worse lol

Chromatic aberration applies a subtle drop shadow to the HUD, which makes it much easier for me to read the radar. I leave it on bc that outweighs the downsides.
Depth of field is responsible for full screen blur effects during explosions, in addition to actual depth of field. An instant-off for me.

Chromatic aberration splits the image into individual RGB at the edges, it's super annoying. It's supposed to simulate a lens effect that no one in cinema uses. Just wish to point out that for some in terms of controller vibration like myself we use it in place of not paying attention to the other display pieces therein, itd be like pointing out not everyone has the attention span of looking at radar much like how if you're caught with your pants down mid aim against something else you are more than vulnerable for whoever is attacking from the blind spots.

Enhance pointer precision only affects the mouse cursor, and if anything, it just makes the cursor move proportionally slower when you move your mouse slower. In most games, including Destiny, camera or aim smoothing is a separate setting that only affects the camera. If you're used to having enhance pointer precision on for general tasks and turning it off makes it harder for you to click on stuff with your mouse cursor, you don't need to turn it off to play video games, it won't make a difference.

So I used to use controller vibration on all the time. And actually it does help: helps with faster reactions when receiving damage from an unknown direction and quickly locating it's source. In addition, fusion rifle mains KNOW how beneficial rumble is as it helps you time your burst and recoil correction. But, yes, for me, the cons you listed outweighed the pros, after some time.

I used to keep vibration off when I played with a PS4 controller, but I bought a PS5 controller recently and the vibration is way more calibrated to the point that it becomes beneficial again. The trick is to keep vibrations set low so that you're getting enough information from the haptics to know what's going on but not enough to be a nuisance, and you need to disable Steam Input on PC.

Controller vibration alone shouldn't be affecting your aim more than any other in-game setting, especially visual ones like Motion Blur and Depth of Field. Vibration does have benefits too, like having good vibration mapping for haptics leads to a different way to pace your shots than visual and can let you focus more on tracking your target than your gun's recoil. (Personally I play with vibration on as it gets me better shot pacing than without, although I also have had more experience with it on than not) As for vibrations encouraging a tighter grip, yes it will encourage you to hold your controller tighter than normal, it will be something to get used to, but you shouldn't be death gripping it with or without vibrations. ***PSA: You shouldn't be white knuckling your controllers 100% of the time, or even 10% of the time.***

Chromatic Aberration also blurs the edges of your screen slightly due to how the effect works. It's sort of like a permanent motion blur with red and blue outlines on the edge of your screen, even though I like the effect in solo play, I do turn this off if I'm going for performance over immersion

Can't necessarily agree on some of the settings here.
I'm torn on Motion Blur. On a sparrow it looks great, but I understand PVP issue. Will try both to see how I like it.
Controller vibration really gives you instant physical feedback if you're scorched, poisoned, or other debuffs. You can check the feed on the left side, but that only shows a limited number, so your debuff might not show up.
Noise and CA adds nothing negative or positive except make the game look a little bit better and more natural.
While I understand the depth of field argument, it's actually a setting that can help you to focus on your target and not get distracted by your peripheral vision. It's how our own eyes work too

Nice video, except for controller vibration. If controller vibration makes you miss, then you are going to miss anyway. Latest gen controllers have incredibly good rumble features, especially PS5 controllers. They do not appreciably interfere with aiming nor increase grip tension unless that’s just a placebo effect you have.
You can feel when you take fire, stand in an AOE ability, you can feel the charge of a fusion rifle for better timing, same with bows as they rumble at perfect draw. There are many instances like this, so I have to hard disagree with this one.
Besides, the battery life is mainly a problem with haptic feedback on triggers, not rumble. And even so, it’s easy to workaround with a cable, rechargeable batteries, or swapping controllers.

I play on PC mainly Series X occasionally and I've never had trouble in this or any game with vibration, even sniping I find it far more immersive on and I hate playing with it off. If using bows, holding the bow for a long period will make the controller vibrate harder and harder until you can't hold the arrow anymore, I'll take that other watching my bow shake on screen as it's easier to judge when it's going to let go. The default vibration in Destiny though for guns and sparrow riding is stupidly aggressive compared to other games and I wish it could be toned down as an option. Thankfully as I use the Elite Series 2 controller I have lowered the vibration in this game by at least 70%, makes it far more enjoyable to play with vibration on. As for settings, the only thing I turn off is motion blur as I hate that setting anyway, everything else stays on and maxed out.
