pizza tower's use of sampling is incredible, but nothing in the ost is as off-the-wall or ingenious as unexpectancy part 2. it manages to feel out of place in a way that just fits so well. does that make sense? well, neither does the fight, or hell, the whole game, but it slaps all the same.

The Part 2 of Unexpectancy is where you face off against a psychotic living cartoon who wants nothing but to torment you whilst also just goofing around the entire fight and not actually taking your attacks seriously. Truly a fitting song for such a crazed character.
"Comically" overpowered characters that could solo their respective universes with ease but don't because they just like fucking around are my favorite type of character. Pizzahead from Pizza Tower, Plastic Man from DC, Impossible Man from Marvel, and the best of all; Takaba from Jujutsu Kaisen.
Bro Litterally picked up a gun and just tossed it for Peppino to grab like it was useless to him. What a chotic evil Pizzaface is.

It makes for a very fitting song for the finale (it is for the last phase of the final boss)
I'm a sucker for Leitmotifs, and when I first heard Part 3 crashing them all together, I was in heaven.
Part three is also fittingly when peppino has had enough andenters GENUINE RAGE mode and temporarily joins the "Too angry to die" congress

Unexpectancy is such a fantastic theme and fun fact it's actually a theme that was originally scrapped from an older game that Mr Sauceman was helping with. Its awesome he gave the song another go and all parts are something truly amazing.
Also for a recommendation from the game, if highly recommended Tombstone Arizona, it's completely unlike the rest of the games track and has some Castlevania inspired bits in it's making.

Unexpectancy part 3 gives me so much goosebumps.
Just the noodling. That buildup. And you see Peppino standing there about to lose his goddamn mind...
You think you're about to do a boss rush, but it turns out to be a boss massacre. It's a power trip. Watching Peppino beat up Pizza Head is the same feeling as watching him beat your boss or your annoying neighbor.
That chiptune and guitar sounds so powerful. It's the satisfaction of going Ultra Instinct and Plus Ultra all at once. Or the final scene in Stardust Crusaders where Jotaro beats the crap out of Dio.

14:05 the melody here is from an earlier song on the soundtrack called cold spaghetti. it's sort of like pthe main character's theme in a way, so having it play during the final boss feels cool.
Part 3, being the culmination of the game, brings back several melodies, including Tombstone Arizona, The Death That I Deservioli, and Don’t Preheat Your Oven or Else the Song Won’t Play. Perfect for a climax

@@grungledev I mean, the song has been around for almost as long as Peppino has been a character, and it was used in the Steam trailer. And it was clearly important enough to be the one to get such a bombastic leitmotif in the final boss theme and not It's Pizza Time. It's basically what "Greenhorn Forest" is to Wario, Nintendo more or less considered that "Wario's theme" in the GC/Wii era.

Unexpectancy 2 was infact unexpected, and even unexpectancy 3 has thrown a lot of people off guard by seemingly putting Pizzahead's final phase motif as Freezerator out of nowhere.
Then again, wouldn't put it past Pizzaface to sell his customers heated up frozen pizza.
I kinda like the fact how the used freezerator as the final part, it really fits

What makes the Part 3 so awesome and memorable is the fact that it recycles parts of previous stages and the famous The Death That I Deserviolli, its used as a flashback of what Peppino has gotten though, combine that with the fact that the background of the boss fight is his Pizzaria, and a boss rush before fighting the big bad himself, it makes up for the best finale
It doesnt even feel like a "propper" boss rush thanks to peppino just loosing his shit and entering GENUINE RAGE status and it all just feels so perfect

I think that's kind of the point, the other times the bosses's themes were playing because they had the advantage and were controlling the fight, with Peppino trying to find an opening to hurt them.
Unexpectancy 3 is basically Peppino's boss theme, because now *he's* in control of the fight.

"When You Get What You Want, You Don't Want It" is the perfect song to sum up how petty and capricious the final boss of this game is. It only makes sense that it'd be sampled for part 2.
The interweaving you mentioned for part 2 always seemed like the composer's way to representing the final boss's temper and how it contrasts with Peppino. The final boss has the manic sampling of a 1920's song that straddles the line between playful and violent, while metal guitars and drumming highlight the sections representing Peppino. Brilliant sequence either way

You can really tell that in part 3 that the tide turned in the hero's favor. He wasn't fighting the boss he became the boss.

I love part 2 so much because of how much the sampling suits the character- he’s like a non serious overlord with a pizza head for a face, the almost whimsical feel of the sampling shows How he’s just not taking the battle seriously, probably because of a big ego
And yet, there's that one moment where there's a very serious insert as he's wondering if he might have overestimated himself.

It's one of my favorite of all time right next to Undertale/Deltarune
I haven't encountered a game OST this big and varied since Rayman 3. Rayman 1 too, to a lesser extent.
A recent game by name of Clash: Artifacts of Chaos also has a *fantastic* OST. It's kind of like God Hand in gameplay, but styled like Oddworld.

Pizza tower has such an upbeat and adrenaline rush type of ost, and if you play it it makes it better. It's just PERFECT

Also (sorry for commenting twice) I appreciate the musical history you can give this soundtrack, Pizza Tower is an OMEGA 90s game, from 90s United States cartoon styled animation like Ren and Stimpy, Courage the Cowardly Dog, and etc. And to be insanely Wario inspired, another 90s icon. It’s so cool to learn even the music follows this theme as well!

I love this track's use of motifs to convey an underlying narrative, especially part 3.
Part 3 uses melodies from previous songs and situations theyre used in that illicit a sense of power, chiefly the theme for "Lap 2" runs of a level.
When you hit Pizza Time, its a mad dash to the escape danger.
When you hit Lap 2, you're actively challenging that danger and daring it to stop you.
My favorite part of Unexpectancy 3 is the leitmotifs of other level themes. Namely Oregano Desert/Oregano Mirage. It gives me goosebumps

Unexpectancy is split into 3 parts because of the boss phases and, in my opinion, the mood of Peppino during the battle. The first part is basically your climactic final boss as Peppino faces down the very character that wants to destroy his pizzeria. The second part is when the true mastermind appears, being a goofy, rubberhose 90s character, it is also shows in Pizzahead's attacks.
The final part is Peppino's anger finally at his limits as Pizzahead literally pulls out the previous bosses from wherever they were at the tower and breaks every boss's mechanics in the game by just punching the living crap out of the bosses, ending in him sending a barrage of punches at Pizzaman so fast and hard, they start flying up to the sky where he then uses Pizzahead as a literal projectile to destroy the tower.
My favorite part about unexpectancy part 2 is how much it fits Peppino and the final boss. Peppino rage and frustration is clashing with the happy jaunty themes of the boss.
When I tell you I about lost my shit when the "The Death I Deservioli" (which is the game's lap 2 escape theme) section comes in because it plays during a boss rush WHICH IS JUST A LAP 2 OF THE JOURNEY LEADING UP TO THE END??

I absolutely ADORE all the returning leitmotifs from throughout the game coming in during this track, you should look up a video on your own time (if you'd like) that shows the different ones present in the song, some really surprised me!
What I love most is the restraint shown in the electric guitar solos, almost as impressive as shredding an insane solo with fingers flying across the strings. The restraint makes the tension and suspense even greater and brings the song back into the hyped up beat and melodies.
God I can't believe how hard that song slaps. It really rivals undertale, definitely up there with the absolute best.
I was a 90s baby, and I think that's why Pizza Tower resonates with me so much. The entire game is a love letter to the 90s. Could not be happier pizza tower happened when it did.
I think my favorite part of Unexpectancy has to be the train horns in part 2. I don’t have much musical expertise in writing, but the train is so pointless and random that I always listen for when it comes back. This is actually something done a few times in the soundtrack, the other notable example I can think of is Monkey sounds in ‘Trees on my pizza’
Or how in Yeehaw Delivery, there’s a guy in the background saying “more lettuce, more lettuce, hey what are you doing here?”
I also really like how the Golf theme has the sound effects of a guy microwaving something in the background, it's hilarious.

A little fun fact about Unexpectancy part 1: It is actually a remix of a very old track the game's composer made for another project, with the track known as "Betrace - Calculator Fight". It really shows how much the composer's skills have improved over time if you compare the two.
You’ve probably already seen something saying this, but Unexpectancy Part 2 samples a song from the 1920s called “When You Get What You Want, You Don’t Want It,” which is very fitting for the character you’re fighting in the boss, which is quite cool.
I love your face as the realization hits as Unexpectancy part 2 ramps up with the vocal sampling. Really makes you think bout the song title in a literal sense
During part 2, while I don't remember the exact commercial name, the voice clips come from an old commercial that talked about selfish kids, claiming how just as kids get something they want, they no longer want it. The clips used make up the "lyrics":

The usage of the clips also reflects the antagonist's character very well, which is a really nice added detail to the song.
The sling was called “when you get what you want you don’t want it”
the sample for Unexpectancy PART 2 is "After You Get What You Want, You Don't Want It" song. Theres clipped voices from there, and the short old-school melody was the actual end of the song. Its amazing.
Pizza Tower is a game, that it may look good at first glance, but when you play it and experience even just the music, IT'S A MASTERPIECE!

While you're here analyzing the Pizza Tower OST, I recommend my favorite track in the game: Bye Bye There! It's an amazing culmination of all the different motifs in Pizza Tower, so I also recommend looking into a few other distinct songs such as Don't Preheat Your Oven Because If You Do The Song Won't Play while you are at it (yes, that is the name of the song).
Edit: LMAO, I'm an idiot. The "motif" talk was really just me being hyped over Unexpectancy, which covers everything I mentioned before. Still, Bye Bye There! is an amazing revamped, more laid-back version of It's Pizza Time!

I wasn't big into the game until recently, and I saw the community post where you mentioned your sub increase was due in most part to your Pizza Tower content. I CAN SEE WHY! I love that you are doing more of your riff/improv stuff because that has to be my favorite part of every cover you've done. You rock, SPG!
Part 2 melted my brain, stirred it into a slurry, then somehow it came back together. I think it’s more the mindfuck and how it throws everything at me that keeps me coming back to listen to it. I feel like Mr Sauceman knew this would either convey the chaos of phase 2 or it would be too weird for fans… and it paid off really well.
Calzonification is really cool too if you have an interest in westerns, given the context of the boss it was used on and the duel-style it has

I would love to see an everhood reaction video. Songs to check out would be revenge, feisty flowers, and final battle.
The song they sample in part 2 is a song from the 50s called “when you get what you want you don’t want it” and the way it relates to the boss fight (specifically phase 2) is very interesting, but I’m not the most qualified to describe it (and I’m on mobile, so typing is a tad difficult) I recommend the comments on the video of the song, they explain it very well! Long story short however, the phase 2 boss is this cartoony character called pizza head who’s attacks involve frivolous discarding of items, and most of the levels could be interpreted (at least in the higher floors) as businesses he started, then abandoned

Pizza Tower is just wonderful altogether, it has mind blowing good music, very insane gameplay, and just amazing overall.
I loved part one so much bc you got so many of the 90's vibes and sounds correctly. The solos in this one were on point too. Love the videos!
If you like chiptune with electric guitar and other rock instruments, look no further than Splatoon’s multiplayer tracks. You should definitely check out the songs by the fictional in-universe band Chirpy Chips, especially the song Blitz It! Those songs are absolute bangers
If you’re going to check out more Pizza Tower music, I highly recommend Yeehaw Deliveryboy as a track that doesn’t get nearly as much attention as it deserves.

This gets even better when you hear the rest of the ost. Part 3 of Unexpectancy is basically a medley of the soundtrack.
That would explain why it has the undisputed 1st place as the best song in the game: it's the best of the whole soundtrack together.

I like watching these videos as someone who isn't a native speaker and wants to learn how to describe music properly (it's also very convenient that it's associated with Pizza Tower which captured my interest just a few days ago and became one of my most favorite games over the last couple of years). Now I'll be able to say something else other than "Good", "Amazing", "Beautiful" and etc. lol

Unexpectancy 2 is like a very over the top electro swing music from the 20’s
You know what this reminds me of in a way? The Devil went down to Georgia, especially guitar hero three’s rendition. Starts off ominous and foreboding, transitions in the middle part with a more deranged variant, and finally to a more optimistic finish. And they both tell a similar story in that progression. Part one beginning with a foreboding presence, the devil in one case and Pizza Head in the other. It then transitions over to the More deranged part two, where either the devil plays his violin/guitar solo and Pizza Head is revealed to be a psychotic lunatic controlling a machine while jovially laughing at the suffering of those around him. Part three is where the hero shows that the villain was messing with the wrong person. One case being when Johnny shows that his violin skills were far is superior to that that the devil’s, and the other being where Peppino snaps and single-handedly takes down all of pizza head’s minions.
If you end up doing another video on Pizza Tower, then the game's Floor 4 levels contain some absolute bangers. In my opinion, it's the floor with the best overall soundtrack, and the songs get nowhere near enough appreciation! I'd personally recommend:
- Way of the Pig
- Pizza Engineer
- Tubular Trash Zone
- Pizza Time Never Ends
4 and 5 have all of the best music
Although I really love the entire thing. The stage themes in those floors are just on a different level

You should see Thousand March (War)
pizza tower's soundtrack is seriously above many things. the use of strung-together leitmotifs in the game is something of a joy to first discover. unexpectancy aside, try tunnely shimbers (from the level Don't Make a Sound). the game adds something so different to the playstyle and the music perfectly fits the change in theme.
Unexpectancy is so much like Megalovania in the way the music starts out with a simple tune that, after about 8 measures, gains an orchestra and goes absolutely ham. Even the note progression is similar. Absolutely fantastic OST.
The 'interwoven' part of the song, the style of hard swapping between songs, sometimes of different genres, are called Song Battles. It's as though the two styles are fighting for supremacy.
The part I love about Unexpectacy Part 3 is its use of the leitmotif of "The Death I Deservioli" that plays during the Lap 2 segments of the stages. It really sells the sheer energy of this part of the boss fight
Man you gotta check out the rest of the bosses and "Bye Bye There!" I bet you're gonna love each one of them
I fell in love with this game, and its soundtrack separately. It's just a coincidence that it happened at the same time.
Honestly, I find that all the songs are good, as the lowest song is still a bop. The worst songs in the game are good, only called "the worst" because they are surpassed by excellence.

Playing the game first means I lose the wonder of first time hearing the standalone music. That can never be taken back.

The samples in Unexpectancy Part II are from an old song named "After you get what you want, you don't want it." Just sped up 25%
Unexpectancy goes from "I really shouldn't be here" to "i don't know what the fck is going on " to "I am going to beat the shit out of you" which is why it is my favorite track in the game because it does such an amazing job at telling the story of the boss battle AND backing the player up. It first establishes the oppressive atmosphere of the boss fight while also mirroring the player's expectations. It then turns into a song that completely subverts the player's expectations, much like the pizzahead reveal, while also reminding the player that they're still fighting the final boss. And finally part 3 subverts the player's expectations one final time by backing up Peppino instead, essentially turning into your boss theme because by this point, Peppino is pissed and the player already knows how to beat these bosses (easily) and they're probably going "I don't care, I'll just do it again." And it transitions from a sort of "get out of my way!" Feeling to "it's just you and me... but not for long."
All around one of the most thoughtfully composed tracks I've ever heard.
